Generally, natural soils are affected by one-dimensional consolidation so that the behavior characteristic could be somewhat different from the isotropic consolidation specimen. But, due to experimental difficulties and the lack of equipment, the isotropic triaxial tests are mainly performed in most lab. tests. So it seems to be very effective if it is possible to predict pore water pressure and undrained shear strength in the $K_o$ state as the results of isotropic triaxial consolidation test. In this study, isotropic triaxial consolidation test and $K_o$ triaxial consolidation test were performed and we obtained parameters related to pore water pressure ratio using the Hyperbolic model. And then we predicted the behavior of pore water pressure that occurred in the $K_o$ state from the results obtained in the isotropic triaxial cosolidation test through the equation suggested by Lo(1969). It is possible to seize the validity of Lo(1969) equation. Also, considering undrained shear strength obtained from consolidation method in relation with water content, we find that consolidation method have an effect on undrained shear strength. Finally, using the Wroth(1984) equation that is based on the theory of critical state, undrained shear strength in the $K_o$ state was predicted from that of the isotropic triaxial consolidation test. The usefulness of the equation was verified by comparing the predicted value with experimental results.
In this study, the impact of sand and weathered granite soil is analyzed by changing the internal temperature from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}70^{\circ}C$C by installing a heating coil inside the triaxial cell. To check the effect on weathered granite soil due to increase of temperature and number of heating-coiling cycles are analyzed by measuring the temperature by using thermometer installed inside the triaxial cell and due to that deviator stress also occurred during the consolidated undrained test. To analyze the effect of weathered granite soil with change of temperature during undrained testing. The deviator stress and pore pressure is measured. As a result, pore pressure increases and the deviator stress decreases with rise of temperature.

It is important to estimate the mechanical properties of clay since it is directly related to the design and the construction of geotechnical structures. Site exploration, which is composed of boring, sampling, in-situ, or laboratory tests, is preformed to estimate the mechanical properties. However, mechanical properties of clay measured from laboratory test may be different from in-situ properties due to disturbances occurred during sampling, transportation, storage, and trimming. In this study, the degree of disturbance according to sampling method was estimated with the test results of CK/sub o/U triaxial compression test on Yangsan clay. The soil samples were obtained by three types of sampling method, j.e., 76mm-tube sampler, 76mm-piston sampler, and block sampler. In order to evaluate the quality of samples, volumetric strain, undrained shear strength, secant Young's modulus, and pore pressure coefficient at peak measured from each sample were compared with one another. From the test results, it was observed that mechanical properties of the block and piston samples were more reliable than those of tube samples. But it was observed that the water content of piston was similar to that of tube samples at given depths while the water content of block samples was 14.3∼15.8% smaller than that of piston and tube samples. In addition to the evaluation of the quality of samples, relationship between c/sub u// σ/sub vc/'and OCR was established from the results of the CK/sub o/U triaxial compression tests, which were carried out using SHANSEP method. And also undrained shear strength was analyzed using the in-situ test data such as Cone Penetration Test(CPT), Dilatometer Test(DMT), and Field Vane Test(FVT) and was compared with that evaluated from CK/sub o/U triaxial compression test.

This study proposed a new yield function considering the spacing ratio of the critical state to predict the undrained shear behavior of anisotropic field ground. We have suggested a nonassociated constitutive model that used a newly modified plastic potential function in order to apply the yield function of the modified Cam-Clay model to the anisotropic consolidation. In this paper, we predicted undrained shear behavior of the remolded weathered mudstone soils in Phohang isotorpically and anisotropically consolidated using the suggested model. To evaluate the reliability of proposed model, we predictied undrained shear behavior of Bankok Clay isotropically, nomally consolidated and Drammen Clay Ko consolidated. The predicted results are consistent with the observed behavior.
In-situ soil is anisotropically consolidated at rest, and the coefficient of earth pressure at rest $K_0$ is dependent on the properties of soil and stress history. In order to estimate roughly the in-situ undrained shear strength of a $K_0$-anisotropically normally consolidated clay from isotropic consolidated undrained test, consolidated undrained shear testy with four different consolidation pressure ratios ($K={\sigma}'_{3c}/{\sigma}'_{1c}$) were performed and test results showed K-$\alpha$ relationship, representing the strength ratio $\alpha$ as ($S_u/{\sigma}'_{1c})_{CKU}=\alpha(S_u/{\sigma}'_{1c})_{CIU}$. Strength ratio u increases with increasing consolidation pressure ratio. And the angle of internal friction $\Phi'$and angle ratio $\Phi'_{CKU}/\Phi'_{CIU}/$ are increased with the increament of K-value.
The cone pressuremeter test (CPM) is a new in-situ test which combines a standard cone penetration test with a pressuremeter. The cone pressuremeter tests in clay are presented and analyzed. An analytical solution of CPM incorporated non-linear soil behavior with no volume change is presented, and curve fitting technique is proposed to make use of both the loading and unloading portions of the pressuremeter test. The proposed method is accomplished by putting greater emphasis on the unloading portion. Twenty CPM tests are analyzed using the proposed method, and the derived undrained shear strength of soil is compared with other tests such as field vane tests and laboratory tests. The interpreted soil parameters had resonable values when compared to other in-situ and laboratory test results. The cone pressuremeter has provided reliable measures of undrained shear strength using curve fitting method.
In the downstream areas of the Nakdong river, Pusan clays are commonly found and thickness may reach to maximum of 100m. From geological point of view, Pusan clay are characterized as holocene clays, deposited for approximately 20,000 years ago. Recently, there have been many construction projects based on these soft ground areas. It is needed to know clearly soil properties of the areas for design and safety analysis, especially undrained shear strength of soft clays. However, Pusan clay have not been studied systematically because the clay layers are usually very deep, having high sensitivity characteristic. In this study, undisturbed UD samples obtained from the downstream areas of the Nakdong river were researched using laboratory tests (CthUE, CKcUC, CIUC, UU and UC) and in-situ tests (Field Vane, CPTu). The undrained shear strength characteristics of the samples were depicted using stress-strain relationship.
The effects of consolidation stress history including consolidation stress ratio, OCR and cyclic loading with drainage on the undrained shear strength of cohesive soil were investig toted. The ratio$(S_u/\sigma'_{vc})ckou/(S_U/\sigma_{vc})cuv$ was observed to increase with increasing OCR. The equation (1) in this paper by Mayne(1980) for the undrained shear strength of the overconsolidated clay and the equation (4) by Yasuhara(1994), for the postcyclic shear strength were found to be relatively well applicable in the case of Kofonsolidated. It was also suggested that the value of the critical state pore pressure parameter As in these two equations for the in situ shear strength of lightly overconsolidated clay(OCR< 3) be obtained by the standard consolidating test.

It was known that the aging effect of sands is insignificant in comparison with clays, and hence the study on this effect had seldom been performed prior to the early 1980s. However, field tests for this effect have been actively carried out since it was investigated that penetration resistance of reformed sands increased with the lapse of time. Recently, the aging effect of sands has also been examined in laboratory testings. In this study, undrained static triaxial tests were performed to evaluate the effect on the Nak-dong River sands, with different .elative densities $(D_r)$, consolidation stress ratios $(K_c)$, and consolidation times. As a result of the tests, it was proved that the undrained cyclic shear strength $(R_f)$ increased with the aged time on the sands. The in situ range of Rf on the sands, which is applicable to the magnitude of earthquake in the Nak-dong River area, was proposed by using the test results.

Waste materials are being produced in huge quantities globally, and the usual practice is to dump them into legal or illegal landfills. Recycled tiles (RT) are being used in soil stabilisation which is considered as sustainable solution to reduce the amount of waste and solve the geotechnical problems. Although the stabilisation of soil using RT improved the soil properties, it could not achieve the standard values required for construction. Thus, this study uses 20% RT together with low cement content (2%) to stabilise soft soil. Series of consolidated undrained triaxial compression tests were conducted on untreated and RT-cement treated samples. Each test was performed at 7, 14, and 28 days curing period and 50, 100, and 200 kPa confining pressures. The results revealed an improvement in the undrained shear strength parameters (cohesion and internal frication angle) of treated specimens compared to the untreated ones. The cohesion and friction angle of the treated samples were increased with the increase in curing time and confining pressure. The peak deviator stress of treated samples increases with the increment of either the effective confining pressures or the curing period. Microstructural and chemical tests were performed on both untreated and RT-cement treated samples, which included field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX). The results indicated the formation of cementation compounds such as calcium aluminium hydrate (C-A-H) within the treated samples. Consequently, the newly formed compounds were responsible for the improvement observed in the results of the triaxial tests. This research promotes the utilisation of RT to reduce the amount of cement used in soil stabilisation for cleaner planet and sustainable environment.
