  • Characteristics of water-level changes in the Temporary Gulpocheon Discharge Channel were identified by observing and analyzing changes in the subterranean water level induced by hydrological stresses the underground aquifer. The subterranean water level refers to the level at which the pressure of subterranean water passing through the corresponding position has an equipotential value that is in equilibrium with the atmospheric pressure at that location. This water level is not fixed but changes in response to hydrological stress. It can be identified by repeatedly measuring the distance from the observation point to the surface of the subterranean water. The subterranean water-level change equation and the variance range of the hydrological curve of subterranean water over 24 hours at the Gimpo-Gimpo National Groundwater Monitoring Network (NGMN) were used as assessment factors. The variance characteristics of the subterranean water at the 18 monitoring system locations were classified into three impact, observational wish, and non-impact. The impact type accounted for 50% of the subterranean water of and accurately reflected the water-level changes due to hydrological stress, showing that distance is the major controlling factor. The observational wish type accounted for 27.8% of the subterranean water, and one of the two assessment factors did not meet the assessment factors. The nonimpact type accounted for 22.2% of the subterranean water. This type satisfied the two assessment factors and represents subterranean water-level changes response to precipitation.

  • Open-pit mining method, is safe relatively work as compared with underground mining. And high yield, low production cost, has the advantage that it can provide a lot of production. But deforestation, tailings and slag deposition, mineral debris, dust, water, noise, land subsidence, sediment runoff discharge, I have internalized environmental disaster predisposing factors, such as landslides. Thus, it may be noted, also by typical environmental regulations. We try to deal with the changes in open pit terrain and environment related issues. Then, use the recovery period and the open pit mine and ecology off the gun, environment-friendly development of accurate monitoring methods, systems of this development is required. The use of open platforms and open source GIS tools have been developed during this period, it needs to develop spatial information environment monitoring system open pit mine construction.

  • This study was objected to provide suggestions for best management practices to restore the cultural and historical values of the wells in Palaces as well as their water qualities. Water resources in the five Palaces in Seoul Metropolitan, including Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Jongmyo Shrine, and Deoksugung, were surveyed for their physical flows and chemical compositions from April to July in 2010. Ground waters in most wells were found at depths within 5 m from the ground surface, showing typical water-table aquifer systems. Hydraulic gradients indicate water resources in Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Changgyeonggung flowing toward south, and toward east in Deoksugung area. Especially, water-level fluctuation data at S-10 in Deoksugung implied the influence of groundwater discharge facility. In Jongmyo Shrine, water was not detected in wells, indicating the water level was lower than the well depth. Based on the water chemistry and stable isotope analyses, water resources and their qualities appeared to be formed by the water-rock interaction along the groundwater paths. S-10 (Deoksugung) and S-14 (Changgyeonggung) samples were contaminated with nitrate ($NO_3$) in levels of higher than Korean drinking water standard, 10 mg/L as $NO_3$-N, but once in four sampling campaigns. In the situation that water resources in Palaces still maintain natural characteristics, the materials that will be used for the restoration and improvement of the Palace water supplies should be carefully selected not to disturb the natural integrity. In addition, because the wells are located in the center of metropolitan area, a systematic monitoring should be applied to detect and to manage the potential impacts of underground construction and various pollution sources.

  • In this paper, we find out the lifetime index in order to determine the time-dependent trend of deteriorating performance of 6.6kV high-voltage power cable in operation at a power station. The cable systems used in our study have been in operation for 13 years. With measurements for the 13 years, we analyzed the insulation resistances. By developing measuring equipment (comprized mainly of transformer, temperature sensor, and LPF) operating by the three-phase electric power, we analyzed the changing characteristics of insulation resistance of power cable. In contrast to 22kV cables, 6.6 kV cables have thicker insulation. Therefore the characteristics of 6.6kV cables are different from that of 22kV cables. The study found that as time passes, the insulation resistance does not decrease continuously; it decreases to a certain value, then does not decrease any more and shows properties of oscillation. We could not detect the process of deterioration in the preceding twelve years. The cable system showed great stability so that deterioration was not apparent. In this case, it is not possible to measure the future life indices of power cables because the lifetime indices are not predictable

  • This study analyzed the reinforcement effect by conducting laboratory test, model test and program analysis to utilize the surface stabilizer used for the restoration work of collapsed slopes as a reinforcing material for aging reservoirs that exhibits a curing reaction similar to cement. Based on the results of the laboratory test, a model test and program analysis were performed by applying 9% of the mixing ratio. As a result, when the surface stabilizer was used in aging reservoir, it was found that the flow of water only occurred on part of the slope and underground in reservoir. And the water flow could be reduced inside the reservoir. In addition, it was analyzed that the seepage discharge could be reduced by about 42% and the saturated area within the reservoir by about 73%, thereby securing the stability of the aged reservoir.

  • Surface subsidence which occurs with several reasons, such as collapse of gangway, discharge of groundwater, compaction of weak rock mass, and tunnel excavation in shallow depth, gives rise to a serious problem in national infra-structures. In this study, therefore, the mechanism of subsidence has been examined numerically to overcome the passive approach on subsidence occurrence area. With many kinds of numerical studies, the major geotechnical parameters have been selected and the weighted values have been defined for each parameters. Also the authors developed the numerical program which can estimate the possibility of subsidence occurrence, and proposed the decision method for objective and quantitative guideline. It is anticipated that this research will be helpful to establish the hazard map on subsidence region.

  • In this study, a series of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations carried out to evaluate the optimum design model of the internal flow path of drill bit. The Star-CCM+ code was adopted to simulate the multi-phase discharge flow of rock particles and flushing air during a drilling process. The input parameters for the flow simulation of rock particles and air were obtained from the in-situ drilling test results. After the three design factors were determined, the experimental design method (Taguchi method) was utilized to evaluate the optimum value of each factor.

  • High voltage CV cables have been widely installed underground due to their convenience and urban aesthetics. However, cable accidents have occurred frequently owing to poor construction and natural degradations. This paper proposes the method to measure the multi parameter measurement for optimum diagnostics of high voltage cable connection parts and verifies its technical usefulness. This measurement is intended to diagnose degradations of cable connection parts by using simultaneous vibration and thermography as well as partial discharge(PD). The experiment in a shielded laboratory was carried out to verify the usefulness of the multi parameter measurement. The experiment defined the degradation of the cable connection part as 12 types, and produced each degradation sample. As a result of experiment, it was possible to check the correlation of vibration signals with regard to progress in some defects. In the case of thermography, the coherence with regard to the progress of some defects was found. We figure that the proposed method would be useful also in the noise environment.

  • This study was conducted to examine chemical characteristics and correlations among seepage water, subsurface waters and inland groundwater in and around a coastal underground LPG cavern using factor and cluster analyses. The study area is located in western coast of Incheon metropolitan city and is about 8 km off the coast. The LPG cavern storing propane and butane was built beneath artificially reclaimed island. Mean bathymetry is 8.5 m and maximum sea level change is 10 m. Water sampling was conducted in May and August, 2006 from 22 sampling points. Correlation analysis showed strong correlations among $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ (r=0.83~0.99), and Na and Cl (r=0.70~0.97), which indicated reductive dissolution of iron and manganese bearing minerals and seawater ingression effect, respectively. According to factor analysis, Factors 1 (May) and I (August) showed high loadings for parameters representing seawater ingression into the cavern and effect of submarine groundwater discharge, respectively while Factors 2 and IV showed high loadings for those representing oxidation condition (DO and ORP). Factors 4 and II have large positive loadings for $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$. The increase of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ was related to decomposition of organic matter and subsequent their dissolution under reduced condition. Cluster analysis showed the resulting 6 groups for May and 5 groups for August, which mainly included groups of inland groundwater, cavern seepage water, sea water and subsurface water in the LPG storage cavern. Subsurface water (Group 2 and Group III) around the underground storage cavern showed high EC and major ions contents, which represents the seawater effect. Cavern seepage water (Group 5 and Group II) showed a reduced condition (low DO and negative ORP) and higher levels of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$.
