간호대학생이 인식하는 품위 있는 죽음 (The Meaning of Dignified Dying Perceived by Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of dignified dying expressed by undergraduate nursing students. Method: Data were collected by in-depth interviews with fifteen nursing students. Conventional qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the data. Result: There were six major themes and eleven sub-categories from the analysis. Six major themes include death with no artificial life support, obedient death as a human nature, death with family members, meaningful death, no self destructive death, and sympathized death receiving from health care providers. Conclusion: The result of this study suggests that the nursing curriculum related to dignified dying can be developed and may affect the teaching and learning settings to improve end-of-life care performance among undergraduate nursing students, as well as, students in human service areas and health care providers.

대학생들의 SNS중독경향성과 대인관계 만족도의 상관관계 (Relationship between SNS addiction proneness and interpersonal satisfaction among undergraduate students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 SNS중독경향성과 대인관계 만족도를 파악하고, 두 변수간의 상간관계를 파악하여, 대학생의 대인관계 향상 및 SNS 중독 예방을 위한 중재방안의 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 수행되었다. 본 연구의 대상은 D시와 K 지역 대학에 재학 중인 대학생 316명이며, 자료수집 기간은 2017년 6월 30일부터 7월 30일까지였다. 자료수집 방법은 온라인 설문을 이용하여 자가 보고식으로 수집하였고, 자료분석은 SPSS를 이용하여 기술통계, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과 SNS중독경향성과 대인관계만족도는 유의한 음의 상관관계(r=-.57, p<.01)를 보여주어 SNS중독경향성이 높을수록 대인관계 만족도가 낮아짐을 알 수 있었다. 성별(t=.05, p=.963), SNS인맥수(t=.66, p=.513), SNS에서만 유지하는 인맥정도(t=-1.24, p=.216)에 따른 SNS중독경향성의 유의한 차이는 없었다. SNS사용목적 중 정보수집을 위해 SNS이용하는 경우 대인관계 만족도가 더 높았지만(t=3.02, p=.030), SNS사용목적에 따른 SNS중독경향성의 유이한 차이는 없었다(t=0.39, p=.759). 따라서 대학생의 대인관계 만족도를 향상시키기 위한 중재 프로그램 개발 시 본 연구에서 규명된 자료를 기초로 하여 대학생의 SNS중독을 예방하고 대인관계를 향상시키는 프로그램에 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

문헌정보학 전공자의 정보기술 수용요인에 관한 분석적 연구 (An Analysis on Factors of Information Technology Acceptance of LIS Undergraduate Students)

  • 이 연구에서는 문헌정보학 교육과정이 전공자의 정보기술 수용의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위해 정보기술수용모형을 이용하여 두 가지의 이질적인 정보기술환경에서 전공자와 비전공자간, 그리고 전공 성숙도별 정보기술 수용에 대한 요인적 차이를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 문헌정보학 전공자와 비전공자간 정보기술 수용요인은 사회적 특성을 나타내는 주관적 규범 변수에서 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났으며, 전공성숙도에 따라 저학년 집단에서는 비전공자와 큰 차이가 없었으나 고학년 집단에서는 각 변수의 영향력이 저학년 집단에 비해 큰 것으로 나타났다.

간호대학생의 학업참여, 학업소진, 스트레스 및 사회적 지지 연구: 학년별 비교를 중심으로 (Comparison of Academic Engagement, Academic Burnout, Stress, and Social Support by Grade among Undergraduate Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the academic engagement, academic burnout, stress, and social support among undergraduate nursing students by grade. Methods: The study is a descriptive comparative survey. The participants were 247 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 3 universities located in G city. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, $x^2$ tests, and analysis of covariance, using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The students showed significant differences in academic engagement, academic burnout, and stress according to their grade. The post-hoc analysis results showed that sophomores and juniors had lower academic engagement and higher academic burnout and stress than others (i.e., freshmen, or seniors). There was no significant difference in social support among nursing students. Academic engagement had a positive correlation with social support and a negative correlation with academic burnout and stress. Also, academic burnout had a positive correlation with stress and a negative correlation with academic engagement and social support. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing students in second and third grade were at risk of academic burnout and under severe stress. Therefore, sophomores and juniors need more attention and care to help them relieve and control stress and burnout and to improve their academic engagement. Also, the findings should be considered when developing plans and/or interventions for nursing students' major adjustment and academic achievement.

간호대학생의 행복에 관한 인식- Q 방법론적 접근 - (Perception of Undergraduate Nursing Students toward Happiness: A Q-Methodological Approach)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze types of undergraduate nursing student's perception toward happiness. Method: The Q-methodology, which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item, was used. The 34 selected Q-statements from each of 41 subjects were classified into a shape of normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using a QUANL PC program. Result: Four types of perception of happiness in Korean undergraduate nursing students were identified. Type I is a family support vs. emotion type, Type II is a self satisfaction vs. perception type, Type III is a relation oriented vs. action type, and Type IV is a self regulation vs. belief type. Conclusion: It can be concluded that obtaining happiness by pursuing a satisfactory life through creation of values can play an important role in happiness. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that the concept of happiness might be included in nursing curriculum.

Novus-io: An Internet of Things Platform for Academic Projects

  • Internet of things (IoT) is based on a global dynamic information network with cloud services where a great number of devices (things) exchange data to provide added-value services and products. There are several commercial and open source IoT platforms available in the market to connect devices to internet; however, they have cost and operational constraints that make them not suitable for academic projects. In this work, an IoT platform, known as Novus-io, is introduced in order to support academic projects for undergraduate students. With this platform and proper training, undergraduate students from different majors (not only from information technology and electronics) are capable to upgrade their school projects with IoT functionalities. The objective of this approach is to provide to any undergraduate student skills and knowledge on IoT, so they will be prepared, in their imminent step toward professionalism, to understand the relevance of digital services in today's world.

Brief Paper: An Analysis of Curricula for Data Science Undergraduate Programs

  • Today, it is imperative to educate students on how to best prepare themselves for the new data driven era of the future. Undergraduate education plays an important role in providing students with more Data Science opportunities and expanding the supply of Data Science talent. This paper surveys and analyzes the curricula of Data Science-related bachelor's degree programs in the United States. The 'required' and 'elective' courses in a curriculum for obtaining a B.S. degree were evaluated by course weight to indicate its necessity. As a result, it was possible to find out which courses were important in Data Science programs and which areas were emphasized for B.S. degrees in Data Science. We found that courses belong to the Data Science area, such as data management, data visualization, and data modeling, were more required for Data Science B.S. degrees in the United States.

한.미 대학생의 노인과 노화에 대한 태도가 조모-손자녀 간의 친밀도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Korean and American Undergraduate Students' Attiitudes toward the Elderly and Aging on Grandmother-Grandchild Intimacy)

  • This study examines Korean and American undergraduate students' intimacy toward the grandmother and their attitudes toward the elderly and aging. The study also identifies the variances that influence undergraduate students' attitudes. The subjects were 397 Korean and 364 America undergraduates. Statistical analysis was conducted to examine frequency, percentage, meat standard deviation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, Duncan test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows; 1) Both Korean and American undergraduates' attitudes were mid-range, but their intimacy level toward their grandmother was high. 2) The Korean undergraduates' intimacy level differed significantly according to sex and religion, and it showed a significant correlation with attitudes toward the elderly and aging traits, when the student had lived with and had frequent contact with the grandmother. The American undergraduates' intimacy level, however, was significantly different according to the presence of the grandmother. There was also had a significant correlation with the undergraduate students' attitudes toward the elderly and aging traits, frequency of contact with the grandmother and year. 3) The variables that affect the Korean undergraduates' intimacy level toward the grandmother were attitude, cohabitation with her, gender, frequency of contact with the grandmother, and religion, which explained about 21% of total variance. Attitudes toward the elderly and aging traits were very important variables for Korean undergraduates' intimacy with their grandmother. The American undergraduates' intimacy was affected by the variables of attitude, frequency of contact with the grandmother, year, and the presence of the grandmother, which explained about 19% of the total variance. Attitude toward the elderly and aging traits were the most important variables for American undergraduates' intimacy with their grandmother.

한의과대학 학부생을 위한 보완대체의학 교육과정 개발 연구 (Development of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Curriculum for Undergraduate Students at College of Oriental Medicine)

  • Objectives : Integrative medicine in Korea is the 21st century-style medical practice of two orthodox medical doctrines, traditional Korean medicine and western conventional medicine, as well as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). CAM with scientific evidence should be incorporated in undergraduate curricula for the purpose of Korean integrative medicine. Methods : Items of detailed objectives, syllabi, textbooks, instructor's experiences, and effectiveness and reason for difficulty of the CAM curriculum for undergraduate students were analyzed and the preference of CAM therapies and others were also evaluated. Results and Discussion : The effectiveness of this CAM class curriculum was high (8.0$\pm$1.4) enough to be used in other Oriental medical colleges. Development of ability for self-study was rated as 7.0$\pm$1.7 and the helpfulness for clinical use was marked as 6.8$\pm$1.9. Students preferred placebo, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, yoga, functional food, bio-feedback and homeopathy. The difficulty degree was 7.2$\pm$1.6, and the amount of content was suggested as the major reason for it. We also found that this curriculum can be a model for self-oriented study and problem-based learning. Discussions were made for the improvement of the implemented CAM curriculum, which was shown to be very effective for the achievement of Korean integrative medicine. Conclusion : We have successfully installed a CAM curriculum for undergraduate students at the College of Oriental Medicine, and it can be used in others.

Knowledge of Female Undergraduate Students on Breast Cancer and Breast Self-examination in Klang Valley, Malaysia

  • Background: In Malaysia, breast cancer is the first cancer among females regardness of race. Aim: The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge and BSE practice among undergraduate female students at four public universities in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 820 undergraduate female students using a self-administered questionnaire covering socio-demographic data, knowledge of breast cancer and BSE practice. Results: The mean age of the respondents was $21.7{\pm}1.2$ years. The majority of them were single (96.8%), Malay (91.9%) and 16.5% of respondents had a family history of breast cancer. This study showed low level of knowledge on breast cancer and breast self-examination among participants. Only 19.6% participants were performing BSE regularly. Knowledge of breast self-examination was significantly associated with BSE practice (p=0.00). Also, there were significant associations between performing BSE with age, marital status and being trained by a doctor for doing BSE (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our findings showed that the rate of BSE practice and knowledge of breast cancer is inadequate among young Malaysian females. A public health education program is essential to improve breast cancer prevention among this group.
