Task Characteristics and Utilization of Electronic Approval System : Media Richness Theory Perspective (업무특성과 전자결재시스템 활용간의 관계에 대한 탐색적 연구:매체 풍부성 이론 관점)

  • With the rapidly changing external environment and the increasing internal process complexity more and more organizations are adopting the Electronic Approval System(EAS) for their competitiveness. This paper defines EAS as a core organizational communication medium investigates factors which influence EAS's use from a media rich-ness theory and shows sutiable EAS functions for equivocality resolution and uncertainty reduction. Results from the five EAS implementation sites show that most organizations use EAS only for tasks with low equivocality and low uncertainty. Additional functionalities such as video conferencing and database access were suggested for fu-ture EAS system to enhance their utilization for more cirtical and unstructed tasks.

Development of computational software for flutter reliability analysis of long span bridges

  • The flutter reliability analysis of long span bridges requires use of a software tool that predicts the uncertainty in a flutter response due to uncertainties in the model formulation and input parameters. Existing flutter analysis numerical codes are not capable of dealing with stochastic uncertainty in the analysis of long span bridges. The goal of the present work is to develop a software tool (FREASB) to enable designers to efficiently and accurately conduct flutter reliability analysis of long span bridges. The FREASB interfaces an open-source Matlab toolbox for structural reliability analysis (FERUM) with a typical deterministic flutter analysis code. The paper presents a brief introduction to the generalized first-order reliability method implemented in FREASB and key steps involved in coupling it with a typical deterministic flutter analysis code. A numerical example concerning flutter reliability analysis of a long span suspension bridge with a main span of 1385 m is presented to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of the methodology and the software.

Sliding mode control based on neural network for the vibration reduction of flexible structures

  • A discrete sliding mode control (SMC) method based on hybrid model of neural network and nominal model is proposed to reduce the vibration of flexible structures, which is a robust active controller developed by using a sliding manifold approach. Since the thick boundary layer will reduce the virtue of SMC, the multilayer feed-forward neural network is adopted to model the uncertainty part. The neural network is trained by Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation. The design objective of the sliding mode surface is based on the quadratic optimal cost function. In course of running, the input signal of SMC come from the hybrid model of the nominal model and the neural network. The simulation shows that the proposed control scheme is very effective for large uncertainty systems.

  • The objective of this work is to produce a method to assess the effects of information gathering and sharing across an information network on the quality of commands taken by a group of headquarters. The effect is measured mathematically in terms of the reduction in uncertainty about the information elements deemed critical to the commands to be taken at these headquarters. The more reports confirming information elements, the less uncertainty remains and the more knowledge is gained. In this case, we present the effects of collaboration among nodes on knowledge using entropy.

  • This paper describes an Axiomatic Design Process enhanced by the Combinative Index that represents combinative strength between function requirements and design parameters. This method combines the advantages of these two methods : 1) Combinative Index that represents combinative strength between function requirements and design parameters so that we clearly understand these information. 2) engineering specifications are categorized into strategies, constraints and Functional Requirements. In this paper, relationship of FR's and DP's is regarded as one in which uncertainty of information are fundamentally involved. In the reduction of problem with uncertainty, we propose an enhanced Axiomatic Design Process using Combinative Index.

  • As the reduction of information exposure threats by organization insiders contributes to achieving information security(IS) goals, organizations are establishing strict IS policies applicable to insiders and increasing investment in IS systems. However, since IS incidents cause damage to an organization even by malicious information exposure by one person, psychological support for strengthening IS compliance behavior by insiders. This study aims to confirm how the uncertain organizational environment related to IS affects individual IS-related behavior. We surveyed insiders of organizations operating IS policies and tested the hypothesis using 440 samples. As a result, IS technology and communication uncertainty reduced IS voice behavior through IS prospective anxiety, and individuals' susceptibility to information influence moderated the relationship between IS technology, communication, and prospective anxiety and IS voice behavior. Our results suggest the necessity and direction of supplementing the uncertain IS environment in practice.

Flood Damage Reduction Plan Using HEC-FDA Model (HEC-FDA 모형을 이용한 홍수피해 저감계획)

  • This study is estimated the flood damage probability of the flood discharge, the flood stage estimation and Economic Analysis for Flood Control about considering of uncertainty. Sum River Basin has chosen and the probability precipitation is estimated by using the concept of critical rainfall duration depending on the frequency of each flood stage estimation point. For calculating the expected annual damage, the functions of long term hazard, discharge-frequency, stage-discharge and depth-damage are established for 8 areas in Sum River Basin. The expected annual damaged is obtained which is based on the sampling informations through more than 500,000 simulation from the functions of considered uncertainty. The result about the optimum frequency and Investment Priorities are estimated by conducting the evaluation about planning the levee of various of Design Frequency. In analysis result, 12% of B/C value has increased if the uncertainty has concerned. Also the optimum frequency or Investment Priorities are possible to be changed. If the political and social analysis perform together it would be helpful to have a reasonable decision other than only the economical analysis as actual Flood damaged reduction planning.

Identification of Uncertainty on the Reduction of Dead Storage in Soyang Dam Using Bayesian Stochastic Reliability Analysis (Bayesian 추계학적 신뢰도 기법을 이용한 소양강댐 퇴사용량 감소의 불확실성 분석)

  • Despite of the importance on the maintenance of a reservoir storage, relatively few studies have addressed the stochastic reliability analysis including uncertainty on the decrease of the reservoir storage by the sedimentation. Therefore, the stochastic gamma process under the reliability framework is developed and applied to estimate the reduction of the Soyang Dam reservoir storage in this paper. Especially, in the estimation of parameters of the stochastic gamma process, the Bayesian MCMC scheme using informative prior distribution is used to incorporate a wide variety of information related with the sedimentation. The results show that the selected informative prior distribution is reasonable because the uncertainty of the posterior distribution is reduced considerably compared to that of the prior distribution. Also, the range of the expected life time of the dead storage in Soyang Dam reservoir including uncertainty is estimated from 119.3 years to 183.5 years at 5% significance level. Finally, it is suggested that the improvement of the assessment strategy in this study can provide the valuable information to the decision makers who are in charge of the maintenance of a reservoir.

Influence of Communication on Acquired Company Members in the PMI Process : Moderation Effect of the Business Area Consistency between Acquiring and Acquired Company (PMI과정에서 피인수기업 구성원에 대한 의사소통의 영향력 : 인수기업과 피인수기업 간의 사업영역의 일치도의 조절효과)

  • Post-merger integration(PMI) plays a very important role in the success of M&A. Therefore, based on previous studies on PMI, this study discusses the relationship between communication of acquired enterprise members and uncertainty reduction, organizational satisfaction, organizational trust in the PMI process, focusing on the moderating effect of business area consistency between the acquisition and the acquired company. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the hypothesis of the relationship between variables was established and an empirical analysis was conducted. In order to collect data, a survey was conducted on members of the acquired company in China, and 317 questionnaires were finally collected and used for empirical analysis. For the collected data, the research hypothesis was verified using SPSS 26.0. The results of the study confirmed that communication has a positive effect on the reduction of uncertainty, job satisfaction, and organizational trust perceived by members of the acquired company, and that the consistency in business areas between the acquisition and the acquired company weakens the relationship between communication and uncertainty. In the positive relationship between communication and job satisfaction, organizational trust, the effect of strengthening the moderating variable has not been confirmed, but rather the weakening control effect was found. Based on these findings, the strategy of communicating with the members of the acquired company in the PMI process is meaningful for the success or failure of the merger and provides theoretical and practical implications for proposing differentiated human resources management measures according to M&A type.
