This paper describes a method for a falling weight impact test to estimate the impact energy absorbing characteristics and impact strength of CFRP laminate plates based on considerations of stress wave propagation theory. The absorbed energy of T300 orthotropic composites is higher than that of quasi-isotropic specimen over impact energy 6.8J, but in case of using T700 fiber, much difference does not show. Also, absorbed energy of T300 orthotropic composites, which are composed of the same stacking number and orientation became more than that of T700 fiber specimen; however there was no big difference in case of quasi-isotropic specimens. The delamination areas of the impacted specimen were measured with the ultrasonic C-scanner to find correlation between impact energy and delamination area. The fracture surfaces were observed by using the SEM (scanning electron microscope) through a low-velocity impact test in order to confirm the fracture mechanism.

A structural health monitoring technique for locating impact position in a plate structure is presented in this paper. The method employs a single sensor and spatial focusing of time reversal (TR) acoustics. We first examine the TR focusing effect at the impact position and its surroundings through simulation and experiment. The imaging results of impact points show that the impact source location can be accurately estimated in any position of the plate. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed method has the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in other ultrasonic testings of plate-like structures.

The typical heat-resisting rotor steels such as 2.25CrMo, 9CrMo and 12CrW steel were experimentally studied in order to understand their materials degradation under high temperature and pressure during the long-term service, and then use the basic studies for the structural health monitoring. In order to monitor the materials degradation, it was conducted by the isothermal aging for 2.25CrMo steel, creep-fatigue for 9CrMo steel and creep for 12Cr steel with the incremental step test. The ultrasonic wave properties, electrical resistivity and coercivity were interpreted in relation to microstructural changes at each material and showed strong sensitivity to the specific microstructural evolution.

Anisotropic elastic constants of Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube materials were determined by a high temperature resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS). The resonant frequencies were measured using alumina wave-guides and wide band ultrasonic transducers in a small furnace. The rectangular parallelepiped specimens were fabricated along with the axial, radial and circumferential direction of the pressure tube. A nine elastic stiffness tensor for orthotropic symmetry was determined in the range of room temperature ${\sim}500^{\circ}C$. As the temperature increases, the elastic constant tensor, cij gradually decreases. Higher elastic constants along the transverse direction compared to those along the axial or radial direction are similar to the case of Young's modulus or shear modulus. A crossing of shear elastic constants along axial direction and radial direction was observed near $150^{\circ}C$. This fact corresponds to the crossing of c44 and c66 of single crystal zirconium.

In recent years, as nano scale structured thin film technology has emerged in various fields such as the materials, biomedical and acoustic sciences, the quantitative nondestructive adhesion evaluation of thin film interfaces using ultra high frequency scanning acoustic microscopy(SAM) has become an important issue in terms of the longevity and durability of thin film devices. In this study, an effective technique for investigating the interfaces of nano scale structured thin film systems is described, based on the focusing of ultrasonic waves, the generation of leaky surface acoustic waves(LSAWs), V(z) curve simulation and ultra high frequency acoustical imaging_ Computer simulations of the V(z) curve were performed to estimate the sensitivity of detection of micro flaws(i.e., delamination) in a thin film system. Finally, experiments were conducted to confirm that a SAM system operating at a frequency of 1 GHz can be useful to visualize the micro flaws in nano structured thin film systems.
This study was carried out to settle the plugging problem which occurs frequently when agricultural wettable powder is used in pest control work using the crushing and the dispersing effects caused by irradiation of ultrasonic wave. Sonication was applied to the wettable powder suspension in a beaker for 30 seconds using a 28 kHz, 200 W PZT BLT, and the image of suspension before and after sonication was observed using a microscope and a SEM. The image of tow commercial wettable powder suspensions in water observed using an optics microscope showed that the agglomerated particles were irregularly distributed over the whole observed region when stirred mechanically, while showing more uniform distribution composed of comparatively single particles in the whole observed region after sonication. Concerning the above, the projected areas of particles in the four suspensions after sonication were decreased distinctively in the observed range of the microscope and the atomization of crystals was much developed. Over the measured range of 5.6∼4,157 ${\mu}$m particle size, the overall projected area of particles was decreased to 58.3∼89.6% on the average after sonication. When the SEM images of sonicated wettable powder suspensions dissolved in water and CH$_3$OH were compared to the suspensions before sonication, such phenomena as the atomization of particles, the expansion of voids between particles, the reduction and the decrease of agglomerated particle groups, and the progress of crack developments on the surface of flake-shaped particles were observed. It seemed possible that the plugging problem that occurs frequently in pest control machine when using wettable powder would be settled by the use of sonication.

This paper surveys the physical properties of the MWNT dispersion solution dispersed with the three types of solvents and of the polyurethane composite film for improvement of mechanical properties and electrical characteristics of PU/MWNT composite film. For this purpose, the MWNT dispersed solution was mixed with three types of solvent such as IPA, MEK and Toluene and then mixed with polyurethane (100part) with variation of loading content (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 part) of MWNT dispersed solution in the ultrasonic wave dispersion apparatus. And eighteen PU/MWNT composite films were prepared as specimens. The various physical properties of these PU/MWNT films were measured and discussed with the loading content of three types of MWNT dispersed solutions. The highest absorbancy among the three types of dispersed solutions was shown in the IPA/MWNT solution. But the absorbancy of PU/MWNT films was not same as the solution. The low electrical surface and volume resistivity of PU/MWNT film were shown at the condition of 20 and 10 parts loading of IPA/MWNT dispersed solution, respectively. The low triboelectricity of PU/MWNT film was shown at the condition of above 30part loading of IPA/MWNT dispersed solution. The breaking strength and strain of PU/MWNT film prepared with IPA/MWNT dispersed solution were decreased with increasing loading content of IPA/MWNT from 10 to 40 parts. The maximum breaking strength and breaking strain according to the dispersion solution were shown on the IPA/MWNT dispersed solution. The uniform dispersion of PU/MWNT film according to the loading content of MWNT solution was shown by surface image analysis on the films dispersed with IPA.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to classify patients with chronic back pain according to the degree of their back pain, and to compare the pain dysfunction index with the qualitative changes in abdominal muscles. Therefore, we aimed to provide a basis for the treatment intervention method for patients with back pain. Methods: Twenty patients with chronic back pain were purposive sample to a group of 10 patients with a back pain index of 60 % or more and a group with less than 60 % of back pain, and the subjects who voluntarily participated in the study After receiving the letter, I conducted the research the dysfunction of back pain was measured by the Korean version of the Oswestry Disability Index (KODI), and the ultrasonic wave (Ultrasound MyLabOne, ESAOTE, Italy) And the white area index, and the abdominal muscle movement was used as the exercise instrument POWER breathe K5 (Hab direct, UK), which strengthens the respiratory muscles through threshold-muscle traction. Result: In this study, patients with chronic back pain were subjected to breathing exercises, which led to the decrease in back pain dysfunction. The ultrasonographic analysis of abdominal muscles revealed that both the white area index and muscle image density in the skeletal muscle and in the outer muscle of the abdomen gradually decreased over time. Conclusion: It is thought that introducing back pain patients to abdominal muscle reinforcement training is effective in improving the functions of the patients' muscles, thus increasing their quality of life.

An experimental procedure to identify failure modes of impact damage using sensor signals and to analyze their general features is examined. A series of low-velocity impact tests from low energy to damage-induced high energy were performed on the instrumented drop weight impact tester to monitor the stress wave signals due to failure modes such as matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. The wavelet transform(WT) and Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) are used to decompose the piezoelectric sensor signals in this study. The extent of the damage in each case was examined by means of a conventional ultrasonic C-scan. The PVDF sensor signals are shown to carry important information regarding the nature of the impact process that can be extracted from the careful signal processing and analysis.
An UET (ultrasound excited thermography) has been used for several years for a remote non-destructive testing in the automotive and aircraft industry. It provides a thermo sonic image for a defect detection. A thermograhy is based On a propagation and a reflection of a thermal wave, which is launched from the surface into the inspected sample by an absorption of a modulated radiation. For an energy deposition to a sample, the UET uses an ultrasound excited vibration energy as an internal heat source. In this paper the applicability of the UET for a realtime defect detection is described. Measurements were performed on two kinds of pipes made from a copper and a CFRP material. In the interior of the CFRP pipe (70mm diameter), a groove (width - 6mm, depth - 2.7mm, and length - 70mm) was engraved by a milling. In the case of the copper pipe, a defect was made with a groove (width - 2mm, depth - 1mm, and length - 110 mm) by the same method. An ultrasonic vibration energy of a pulsed type is injected into the exterior side of the pipe. A hot spot, which is a small area around the defect was considerably heated up when compared to the other intact areas, was observed. A test On a damaged copper pipe produced a thermo sonic image, which was an excellent image contrast when compared to a CFRP pipe. Test on a CFRP pipe with a subsurface defect revealed a thermo sonic image at the groove position which was a relatively weak contrast.
