Based on the recently developed resonance scattering theory for elastic waves, a relationship between the stress components, which may be measured using ultrasonic transducers, of partial waves scattered from cylindrical fluid scatterer, cavity, and resonance scatterer has been derived. The computed resonance scattered stresses exhibit frequency behaviors similar to the corresponding scattering coefficients: particularly, abrupt changes in phase by 180°near the resonant frequencies. By studying the behavior of pressure in the fluid scatterer, the physics of the theory has been further understood. Using the method studied and developed in this paper, nondestructive characterization of fluid inclusions in elastic media is expected to become more reliable.

Ultrasonic surgical devices are routinely used for surgical procedures. The incision and coagulation of tissue generate a temperature of $40^{\circ}C-150^{\circ}C$ and depend on the controllable output power level of the surgical device. Recently, research on the classification of grasped tissues to automatically control the power level was published. However, this research did not consider the specific characteristics of the surgical device, tissue denaturalization, and so on. Therefore, this research proposes a robust algorithm that simulates noise to resemble real situations and classifies tissue using conventional classifier algorithms. In this research, the bioimpedance spectrum for six tissues (liver, large intestine, kidney, lung, muscle, and fat) is measured, and five classifier algorithms are used. A signal-to-noise ratio of additive white Gaussian noise diversifies the testing sets, and as a result, each classifier's performance exhibits a difference. The k-nearest neighbors algorithm shows the highest classification rate of 92.09% (p < 0.01) and a standard deviation of 1.92%, which confirms high reproducibility.
In the assessment of existing RC buildings, the reliable appraisal of the compressive strength of in-situ concrete is a fundamental step. Unfortunately, the data that can be obtained by the available testing methods are typically affected by a high level of uncertainty. Moreover, in order to derive indications about the degradation and ageing of the materials by on site tests, it is necessary to have the proper terms of comparison, that is to say, to know the reference data measured during the construction phases, that are often unavailable when the building is old. In the cases when such a comparison can be done, the in situ strength values typically turn out to be lower than the reference strength values (tests performed on taken samples during the construction). At this point, it is crucial to discern and quantify the specific effect induced by different factors: ageing of the materials; poor quality of the placement, consolidation or cure of the concrete during the construction phases; damage due to drilling. This paper presents a procedure for correlating the destructive compressive tests and non-destructive tests (ultrasonic pulse velocity tests) with the data documenting the compressive strength tested during the construction phases. The research work is aimed at identifying the factors that induce the difference between the in-situ strength and cubes taken from the concrete casting, and providing, so, useful information for the assessment procedure of the building.
If small cracks in stud bolts are not detected early enough, they grow rapidly and cause total fracture. It is difficult to detect, prior to failure, flaws such as stress-corrosion cracking in thread roots and corrosion wastages using conventional ultrasonic testing methods during inservice inspection. This study show a method of detecting a small crack by digital signal processing. When ultrasonic beams travels into threads in parallel way, the echoes from each successive threads has almost the same intervals between any two signals. We can estimate the next thread signal based on previous thread signal by the predictive distance. The optimized operator is used to remove the predicted successive thread signals so that a small crack signal can be detected.
The acoustic field analysis method is the superior calibration method for rectifying the ultrasonic probe sensitivity. This method also can be applied to evaluate the probe performance in clinical fields without numerical analysis and precise measurements. In this paper, we propose the method of acoustic field pattern analysis with probe channel division for the evaluation of diagnostic ultrasound probe characterization. In order to verify our purpose, we performed a set of experiments. We measured the acoustic-field pattern of the three inferiority probes by channel division to evaluate an acoustic field distribution and impulse response characteristics. By comparing the results of acoustic field measurement method with that of conventional method such as impulse response and live image test for linear array probes, it is demonstrated that the ultrasound field measurement method is more effective then conventional method in detection of defective elements.
Metal 3D printing is very useful for making the injection molds containing complex conformal cooling channels. The most important issue of the 3D printed molds is cost and life cycle. However, powder bed fusion (PBF) methods are vulnerable to fatigue loading because of the presence of pores and rough surfaces. In the present study, the fatigue test was performed to obtain fatigue analysis input data for predicting the durability of a 3D printed injection mold core. The metal 3D printer used to manufacture the specimen was OPM250L from Sodick, and the metal powder material was maraging steel. The ultrasonic fatigue testing method was adopted for the fatigue test. A key advantage of the ultrasonic fatigue method is that $10^8{\sim}10^9$ long cycle test data or more could be obtained within a relatively short period. Based on the results of the experiment, the effect of heat treatment was negligible. However, there was an apparent difference in durability depending on the presence or absence of the surface treatment.

Using the fatigue limit (∆σunsm) and residual stress (σr) of the UNSM smooth specimen, the harmless maximum crack depth (ahlm) according to the crack aspect ratio (As) was evaluated. In addition, the relationship between the minimum crack depth (aNDI1, aNDI2) detectable by non-destructive inspection(NDI), the crack depth (a25, a50) that reduces the fatigue limit by 25% and 50%, and ahlm were evaluated. The harmless crack condition was determined by the deepest crack point (point A). Since ahlm is larger than a25 and a50, a25 and a50 can secure the safety and reliability of steel via UNSM. Because aNDI1 and aNDI2 are larger than a25 and a50, cracks in a25 and a50 cannot be detected by non-destructive testing. Therefore it is necessary to apply more precise NDI.

In this study by using EMAT(electro magnetic acoustic transducer)the artificial slit is installed on 12B-SUS pipe test piece. By making 4 cycle SH-burst (EMA) incidence to 45 .deg. angle, the signal data of pulse, received from EMAT are translated into digital-signal-processing- method SSP(Split Spectrum Processing) and Deconvolution method. The main conclusions obtained are as follows; (1) the signal data received from EMAT are translated with digital signal proc- essing of SSP-method and Deconvolution-method and this method shows exellent results more than Ultrasonic testing method does; (2) noise can well be removed by SSP with signal data, and resolution and S/N ratio are advanced; (3) when used with Ultrasonic wave general stainless steel has proporties of multiscattering and reflection phenomena, but resolution is progressed by using Deconvolution method;and (4) as addition-averaging-processing mumber is increasing, the resolution and S/N ratio are improved and the satisfactory signal is obtained.
This paper presents the methodology and results for the investigation of the structural safety of 40 aged underground water tanks to support the weight of photovoltaic (PV) systems that were supposed to be placed on their roof reinforced concrete (RC) slabs. The investigation procedure included (1) review of available documents; (2) visual inspection of the roof RC slabs; (3) carrying out a series of nondestructive (ND) tests; and (4) analysis of results. Out of the 40 tanks, eleven failed the visual inspection phase and were discarded from further investigation. The roof RC slabs of the tanks that passed the visual inspection were subjected to a series of ND tests that included infrared thermography, impact echo, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), Schmidt hammer, concrete core compressive strength, and water-soluble chloride content. The NDT results proved that eight more tanks were not suitable to support the PV systems. Based on the results of the visual inspection and testing, a probabilistic decision-making criterion was established to reach a decision regarding the structural integrity of the roof slabs. The study concluded that the condition of the drainage filter was essential in protecting the tanks and its intact presence can be used as a strong indication of the structural integrity of the roof RC slabs.
Real time ultrasonic measurements for 13th rib fat thickness (LBF), longissimus muscle area (LEMA) and marbling score (LMS) of live animal at pre-harvest and subsequent carcass measurements for fat thickness (BF), longissimus muscle area (EMA), marbling score (MS) as well as body weight of live animal, carcass weight (CW), dressing percentage (DP), and total merit index (TMI) on 755 Korean beef steers were analyzed to estimate genetic parameters. Data were analyzed using multivariate animal models with an EM-REML algorithm. Models included fixed effects for year-season of birth, location of birth, test station, age of dam, linear and quadratic covariates for age or body weight at slaughter and random animal and residual effects. The heritability estimates for LEMA, LBF and LMS on RTU scans were 0.17, 0.41 and 0.55 in the age-adjusted model (Model 1) and 0.20, 0.52 and 0.55 in the weight-adjusted model (Model 2), respectively. The Heritability estimates for subsequent traits on carcass measures were 0.20, 0.38 and 0.54 in Model 1 and 0.23, 0.46 and 0.55 in Model 2, respectively. Genetic correlation estimate between LEMA and EMA was 0.81 and 0.79 in Model 1 and Model 2, respectively. Genetic correlation estimate between LBF and BF were high as 0.97 in Model 1 and 0.98 in Model 2. Real time ultrasonic marbling score were highly genetically correlated to carcass MS of 0.89 in Model 1 and 0.92 in Model 2. These results indicate that RTU scans would be alterative to carcass measurement for genetic evaluation of meat quality in a designed progeny-testing program in Korean beef cattle.
