Design and Implementation of Wireless Asynchronous UWB System for low-rate low power PAN applications (저속도 저전력 PAN 응용을 위한 무선 비동기식 UWB 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • In the parer, we design a non-coherent UWB system by adopting the architecture of a simplified asynchronous transmission and the edge-triggered pulse transmission, which makes e system performance independent of the share of the transmitted waveform, robust to multipath channels. The designed non-coherent UWB transceiver architecture has an advantage of the simple realization since any mixer, high-speed correlator, and high-sampling A/D converter are not necessary at the cost of performance degradation of about 3dB. Further, the designed non-coherent UWB transceiver is actually implemented with the wireless CANVAS prototype testbed in short range indoor application environments such as a lecture room. The implemented prototype testbed is proven to offer the data rate of 115kbps on the conditions of Peer-to-Peer(P-to-P) in the indoor channel within the range of about 10m.

  • The anti-vibration tables that use air suspensions as dampers have been widely used due to their high anti-vibration performance in wide frequency band. However, they face a problem of easily accelerating the vibration when triggered by external force because their air suspensions have low rigidity and dampness. In response, there has been a study on active/semi-active dampers that use only the passive components like air suspensions to complement the passive-control format. Thus, we have dynamically analyzed the active/semi-active control of such passive anti-vibration tables. To demonstrate the anti-vibration table's control system, we have also constructed a kinetic model based on the physical characteristics of an anti-vibration table with 6 degrees of freedom and verified its applicability through analysis and experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a multiple access scheme using MHP(Modified Hermite Polynomial) pulse and ternary code for high-data and low-data rate for Out-body WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network). To satisfy the requirement of WBAN system, UWB-IR has been considered as a promising candidate for Out-body WBAN. The proposed multiple access scheme, using orthogonal MHP pulse and ternary code sets, reduces multi-user interference and distinguishes user signal from multi-user signals. We propose two algorithms for synchronous and asynchronous WBAN system. The symbol is constructed by MHP pulses and time hopping duration to reduce multi-user interference in the synchronous WBAN system. The symbol also is constructed by ternary code to avoid collision between pulse trains in the asynchronous WBAN system. The results of the proposed multiple access scheme show a clear improvement of BER.

  • Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) is a new unmanned transportation system using electricity. The purpose of the PRT is relieving the congestion of city traffic and connecting between inner city and airport, high-speed railroad. PRT requires to develop devices for the guarantee of safety and reliability. PRT as the mean of rail transportation must be equipped with control system for front rail sensing. Ultra Wide Band(UWB) radar system is suitable for PRT's detection because it has the advantage of low power consumption, low interference and high resolution. In this paper, an improved adaptive Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) algorithm is proposed and studied in various noise environments. The proposed algorithm improves performance in various noise environments compared to the Mean Level CFAR algorithms and other adaptive CFAR algorithms.

IR-UWB Location Positioning System with Wireless Synchronization (무선 동기를 이용한 IR-UWB 무선 측위 알고리즘)

  • Impulse Radio Ultra Wide Band (IR-UWB) system can be used to wireless position location system because of its unique very short pulse in the order of nanosecond. A few algorithms have been proposed to calculate location of sensors or tags. In this paper, we compare these algorithms and propose 'TDoA with wireless synchronization' as practical solution. Earlier algorithms need special logic to fix the duration to receive and send pulse or assume synchronization with wire. In proposed method, beacons synchronize each other using impulse and nodes can be made simple and cheap. We evaluated the performance and it shows 50% improved accuracy at the error range of 50cm.

  • In this paper we propose and implement a digital part of a receiver system for identifying a moving object and its tracking position in wireless environment. We assumed UWB(Ultra Wide Band)-based communication system for target application and used serial communication method(RS-232). The proposed digital receiver consists of RS-232-type1/RS-232-type2 for input and output of serial communication, ID Detector for detecting IDs, and PISO&Buffer circuit to buffer input signals for appropriate operation of ID Detector. We implemented the digital receiver with minimal hardware(H/W) resource according to target application of UWB-based communication system. So it correlates input patterns with pre-stored patterns though repeated detecting method for multiple IDs. Since it has reference panerns in the Ve-stored form, it can detect various IDs instantly. Also we can program content and size of reference patterns considering compatibility with other systems .The implemented H/W was mapped into XC2S100PQ208-5 FPGA of Xilinx, occupied 727($30\%$) cells, and stably operated in the clock frequency of 75MHz(13.341ns).

  • Recently, a container shipping volume has increased dramatically and continued on a trend of rapid growth, and so the number of container handled at the port increase. therefore, it's increasing about concern of harbor automatism to save distribution costs in harbor. harbor automatism classifies into four large automatism's, gate automatism by using RFID that trailer come with burdening the container to be loaded on ships go though with RFID and Quay-Side container crane automatism that treats cargos loading on ships and automatism of CG that loads containers from yard, and automatism of container transporters that carries containers in between gates. To increase the using efficiency of harbor, detecting exact location of yard crane is very important matter. In this paper, it intends to discuss about yard crane automatism applied UWB Ranging system and bring up the development direction.

  • The acousto-optical spectrometer as a new type backend of the receiver system for radio astronomical observations is manufactured for radio signal analysis. We studied on the effect of Acousto-Optic and Acousto-Optic devices and designed the optics system. We manufactured the optical mount and the CCD detector for deflected beam and interface card. This acousto-optical spectrometer consisted of a laser, optics, acousto-optic deflector, CCD detector and Interface card. This system use He-Ne laser as a light source and use optics to get parallel beam and to focus the deflected beam. Acousto-optic deflector converts IF signal to ultrasonic wave and deflect the laser beam according to the Bragg deflection. The ultra wide band acousto-optic deflector has 1 GHz bandwidth and a total of 2,048 channel Charge Coupled Device for signal detection. In this study, we discuss the theoretical description on the effect of Acousto-optics, the design of the optics, manufacture of optical mount, CCD detector, interface card and we presented the results of experiment. As a result of measurement, we have 1,000 channels bandwidth from CCD channels.

  • In this paper, a resource management scheme for enhancing the network connectivity and reliability in wireless USB system is proposed. Wireless USB protocol is suitable for the application that supports the real-time multimedia service in Ship Area Network since it supports high speed data transfer. However, the device's mobility is caused the dramatic change of link state and network topology, and is occurred the degradation of network performance. Therefore, a resource management scheme for wireless USB system is proposed in this paper. The proposed technique can intelligently treat the change of link state, and solve the degradation of network performance. The simulation results show that proposed protocol can enhance the throughput and delay performance by selecting relay device with better link state.

An Indoor Localization Algorithm of UWB and INS Fusion based on Hypothesis Testing

  • With the rapid development of information technology, people's demands on precise indoor positioning are increasing. Wireless sensor network, as the most commonly used indoor positioning sensor, performs a vital part for precise indoor positioning. However, in indoor positioning, obstacles and other uncontrollable factors make the localization precision not very accurate. Ultra-wide band (UWB) can achieve high precision centimeter-level positioning capability. Inertial navigation system (INS), which is a totally independent system of guidance, has high positioning accuracy. The combination of UWB and INS can not only decrease the impact of non-line-of-sight (NLOS) on localization, but also solve the accumulated error problem of inertial navigation system. In the paper, a fused UWB and INS positioning method is presented. The UWB data is firstly clustered using the Fuzzy C-means (FCM). And the Z hypothesis testing is proposed to determine whether there is a NLOS distance on a link where a beacon node is located. If there is, then the beacon node is removed, and conversely used to localize the mobile node using Least Squares localization. When the number of remaining beacon nodes is less than three, a robust extended Kalman filter with M-estimation would be utilized for localizing mobile nodes. The UWB is merged with the INS data by using the extended Kalman filter to acquire the final location estimate. Simulation and experimental results indicate that the proposed method has superior localization precision in comparison with the current algorithms.
