Design and control of the electrostatic suspension system for flexible objects

  • Electrostatic suspension is a method to levitate an object by using electrostatic forces. Its main advantage is to levitate objects without any mechanical contact which fulfills the requirement of an object handling in ultra clean environment. In this paper, the electrostatic suspension system for film-like thin plate such as aluminum sheet, is designed and controlled. In contrast with the conventional electrostatic suspension system which requires the costly and bulky high-voltage amplifiers, it is suggested to use the switching voltage control method in consideration of real industrial application for the handling of such flexible bodies. Some experimental results show that the developed electrostatic suspension system shows good performances to levitate flexible film-like thin plate.

  • This study was performed to examine treatment efficiency and patient discomfort rate according to used handpiece speed in clean-up technique. Brackets were bonded to extracted human premolar(50 teeth). After debonding, 50 extracted human premolar were divided Into each two groups(low speed handpiece group with tungsten carbide bur and high speed handpiece group with ultra-fine diamond finishing bur) of 25 according to used handpiece speed in clean-up technique. In clean-up procedure, teeth vibration and pulp thermal changes were measured. After clean-up procedure, the enamel surfaces of randomly selected 10 teeth from each two groups were taken by SEM and evaluated. The findings of this study were as follows ; 1. During resin removal, tooth vibrations of various amplitude in low speed handpiece group were more than those of high speed handpiece. 2. The pulpal thermal changes of high speed handpiece group were significantly higher than those of low speed handpiece group, also the resin removal time in high speed handpiece group was almost as twice as in low speed handpiece group. 3. The figures of SEM to enamel surfaces after resin removal showed that notches and resin remnants in high speed handpiece group were more than those in low speed handpiece group.

  • BACKGROUND: Three commercial biopesticides containing derris extract, which is permitted as a commercial biopesticide substances by the Environmentally-friendly Agriculture Promotion Act, have been marketed in Korea. But, the quantitative analytical method of active substances for crop protection in biopesticides containing derris extract has not known. METHODS AND RESULTS: Solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridge clean-up method for the quantitative analysis of rotenone and deguelin in biopesticides containing derris extract was developed and validated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). The clean-up method was established using hydrophilic lipophilic balance (HLB) SPE cartridges for the bioactive substances in biopesticides containing derris extract, and the eluate was analyzed to quantify the rotenone and deguelin by the UPLC. LOQ and recovery rates of rotenone and deguelin were 0.085 and 0.044 mg/L, 95.7 and 93.3%, respectively.   • Diesel engines have the advantages of good fuel efficiency and low emissions. Therefore, car makers have been developed various kinds of diesel engine management system to clean up emissions while improving fuel efficiency. One of them is the common rail system. In the common rail system, diesel fuel is injected into the combustion chamber at ultra high pressures up to 1,800 bar to ensure more complete combustion for cleaner exhaust gas, and highly precise multiple injection reduces NOx emission, combustion noise and vibration. Generally speaking, common rail system consists of booster pump, high pressure pump, common rail, injectors, control valves, and sensors. The high pressure pump receives low pressure fuel from the booster pump and supply high pressure fuel to injectors through the high pressure common injection rail. Therefore, high pressure pump has an important role in common rail system. In this paper, we have investigated the performance of high pressure pump of common rail system.

  • This article provides comprehensive guidance on the maintenance, cleaning, regeneration, and storage of silica-based HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) columns. The general considerations emphasize the importance of using in-line filters and guard cartridges to protect columns from blockage and irreversible sample adsorption. While these measures help, contamination by strongly adsorbed sample components can still occur over time, leading to an increase in back pressure, loss of efficiency, and other issues. To maximize column lifetime, especially with UHPLC (Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography) columns, it is advisable to use ultra-pure solvents, freshly prepared aqueous mobile phases, and to filter all samples, standards, and mobile phases. Additionally, an in-line filter system and sample clean-up on dirty samples are recommended. However, in cases of irreversible compound adsorption or column voiding, regeneration may not be possible. The document also provides specific recommendations for column cleaning procedures, including the flushing procedures for various types of columns such as reversed phase, unbonded silica, bonded normal phase, anion exchange, cation exchange, and size exclusion columns for proteins. The flushing procedures involve using specific solvents in a series to clean and regenerate the columns. It is emphasized that the flow rate during flushing should not exceed the specified limit for the particular column, and the last solvent used should be compatible with the mobile phase. Furthermore, the article outlines the storage conditions for silica based HPLC columns, highlighting the impact of storage conditions on the column's lifetime. It is recommended to flush all buffers, salts, and ion-pairing reagents from the column before storage. The storage solvent should ideally match the one used in the initial column test chromatogram provided by the manufacturer, and column end plugs should be fitted to prevent solvent evaporation and drying out of the packing bed.

Ultra-Clean Patterned Transfer of Single-Layer Graphene by Recyclable Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Films

  • We report an ultraclean, cost-effective, and easily scalable method of transferring and patterning large-area graphene using pressure sensitive adhesive films (PSAFs) at room temperature. This simple transfer is enabled by the difference in wettability and adhesion energy of graphene with respect to PSAF and a target substrate. The PSAF transferred graphene is found to be free from residues, and shows excellent charge carrier mobility as high as ${\sim}17,700cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ with less doping compared to the graphene transferred by thermal release tape (TRT) or poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as well as good uniformity over large areas. In addition, the sheet resistance of graphene transferred by recycled PSAF does not change considerably up to 4 times, which would be advantageous for more cost-effective and environmentally friendly production of large-area graphene films for practical applications.

Baking analysis of the KSTAR vacuum vessel and plasma facing components (KSTAR 진공용기 및 플라즈마 대향 부품에 대한 베이킹 해석)

  • The base pressure of the vacuum vessel of KSTAR tokamak is to be ultra high vacuum, $10^{-6}\sim10^{-7}Pa$, to produce a clean plasma with low impurity concentrations. For this purpose, vessel and plasma facing components need to be baked up to $250^{\circ}C$, $350^{\circ}C$ respectively to remove impurities from the plasma-material interaction surfaces. Here the required heating power to be supplied for baking has been calculated according to pre-assumed different temperature profiles (baking scenario and proper baking plan for KSTAR tokamak has been proposed. Mass flow rate and temperature of nitrogen gas for baking has also been calculated.

  • Lack of technical standards, specification and inadequate execution in masonry wall construction in Korea lead to produce serious flaw problems such as crack, efflorescene, and upset etc.. The purpose of this paper is to present the practical details for Masonry cavity wall construction to prevent rain penetration and to accommodate differential movement between the inner and outer wythes of cavity walls. Considering rain penetration and differential movement of both wythes of cavity walls, provision of an adequate air space, an airtight back-up wall, clean cavity with weepholes and vents, properly positioned flashing, tie and shelf angle etc. depend on the cavity wall types will help ensure good performance. The present details included noncorrosive hot dip galvanized steel or stainless steel for metal components, plastic and ultra violet resistant polypropylene Copolymer for other components was taken into account the construction method and several types of cavity walls in Korea

  • The base pressure of vacuum vessel of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) Tokamak is to be a ultra high vacuum, $10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-7}Pa$, to produce clean plasma with low impurity containments. For this purpose, the KSTAR vacuum vessel and plasma facing components need to be baked up to at least $250^{\circ}C,\;350^{\circ}C$ respectively, within 24 hours by hot nitrogen gas from a separate baking/cooling line system to remove impurities from the plasma-material interaction surfaces before plasma operation. Here by applying the implicit numerical method to the heat balance equations of the system, overall temperature distributions of the KSTAR vacuum vessel and plasma facing components are obtained during the whole baking process. The model for 2-dimensional baking analysis are segmented into 9 imaginary sectors corresponding to each plasma facing component and has up-down symmetry. Under the resulting combined loads including dead weight, baking gas pressure, vacuum pressure and thermal loads, thermal stresses in the vacuum vessel during bakeout are calculated by using the ANSYS code. It is found that the vacuum vessel and its supports are structurally rigid based on the thermal stress analyses.
