This paper presents the experimental and numerical evaluations on the circular SFRC columns reinforced GFRP rebars under the axial compressive loading. The test programs were designed to inquire and compare the effects of different parameters on the columns' structural behavior by performing experiments and finite element modeling. The research variables were conventional concrete (CC), fiber concrete (FC), types of longitudinal steel/GFRP rebars, and different configurations of lateral rebars. A total of 16 specimens were manufactured and categorized into four groups based on different rebar-concrete arrangements including GRCC, GRFC, SRCC, and SRFC. Adding steel fibers (SFs) into the concrete, it was essential to modify the concrete damage plastic (CDP) model for FC columns presented in the finite element method (FEM) using ABAQUS 6.14 software. Failure modes of the columns were similar and results of peak loads and corresponding deflections of compression columns showed a suitable agreement in tests and numerical analysis. The behavior of GFRP-RC and steel-RC columns was relatively linear in the pre-peak branch, up to 80-85% of their ultimate axial compressive loads. The axial compressive loads of GRCC and GRFC columns were averagely 80.5% and 83.6% of axial compressive loads of SRCC and SRFC columns. Also, DIs of GRCC and GRFC columns were 7.4% and 12.9% higher than those of SRCC and SRFC columns. Partially, using SFs compensated up to 3.1%, the reduction of the compressive strength of the GFRP-RC columns as compared with the steel-RC columns. The effective parameters on increasing the DIs of columns were higher volumetric ratios (up to 12%), using SFs into concrete (up to 6.6%), and spiral (up to 5.5%). The results depicted that GFRP-RC columns had higher DIs and lower peak loads compared with steel-RC columns.
Z-section composite stringers with various lengths and flange-widths are tested in axial compression for the validation of a finite element algorithm to calculate the buckling and crippling stresses of composite laminated stringers. The stacking sequence considered is $[{\pm}45/0/90]s$. Strain gages are attached to each specimen, and deflection and end-shortening are obtained by two LVDTs. The buckling load is determined from the load vs. strain response, load vs. end-shortening curves, and load vs. out-of-plane deflection curves. The ultimate stress after local buckling is used as the crippling stress. Comparison between finite element and experimental results shows good agreement in the local buckling and crippling stresses.
In this paper, it was performed the fatigue test to examine the effect of cyclic loading for the simple T-joint. Axial force of bolt by clamping and the change of the force by applied load were measured in the joint. And the bolt force, the failure mode and the fatigue strength under cyclic loading were investigated. The parameters of the tension joint were set to be the flange thickness and the diameter of bolt to a different stiffness of the joint in response to the combination. From the fatigue test, failure mode of tensile joints under cyclic loading could be evaluated using a static ultimate load of the specific failure mode in EC3. The fatigue strength of the tension joints was considerably higher than the fatigue strength of the EC3(36) that does not consider a lever action. However, the additional axial force by lever action occurs to an increase in the axial force of the bolt it requires a careful evaluation of the fatigue strength.
The composite steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns have been widely used in Structural Engineering due to their good performances. Many studies have been done on the SRC columns' performances, but they focused on the ordinary types with conventional configurations and materials. In this study, nine new types of steel reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete (SRLAC) short columns with cross-shaped (+shaped and X-shaped) steel section were tested under monotonically axial compressive load; the studied parameters included steel section ratio, steel section configuration, ties spacing, lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) strength, and longitudinal bars ratio. From the results, it could be found that the specimens with larger ties ratio, concrete strength, longitudinal bars ratio, and steel section ratio achieved great strength and stiffness due to the excellent interaction between the concrete and steel. The well-confined concrete core could strengthen the steel section. The ductility and toughness of the specimens were influenced by the LWAC strength, steel section ratio, and longitudinal bars ratio; in addition, larger ties ratio with smaller LWAC strength led to better ductility and toughness. The load transfer between concrete and steel section largely depends on the LWAC strength, and the ultimate strength of the new types of SRLAC short columns could be approximately predicted, referring to the codes' formulas of ordinary types of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns. Among the used codes, the BS-5400-05 led to the most conservative results.

Bending and axial forces simultaneously occur at the cross-section of a shotcrete lining reinforced with steel supports due to the tunnel geometry. The shotcrete has changing flexural stiffness depending on the axial forces and, as a result, severely nonlinear behavior. The mechanical properties of a shotcrete-steel composite also depend on the type of steel support. This study presents a fiber section element model considering the effect of axial force to evaluate the nonlinear behavior of a shotcrete-steel composite. Additionally, the model was used to analyze the effects of different types of steel supports on the load capacity. Furthermore, a modified hyperbolic model for ground reaction, including strain-softening, is proposed to account for the ground-lining interaction. The model was validated by comparing the numerical results with results from previous load test performed on arched shotcrete specimens. The changes in mechanical responses of the lining were also investigated. Results show a lining with doubly reinforcement rebar has similar load capacity as a lining with H-shaped supports. The use of more materials for the steel support enhances the residual resistance. For all types of steel reinforcement, the contribution of steel supports during peak load decreases as the ground becomes stiffer.
A series of model tests and analyses by load transfer function were performed to study load-settlement behaviour with relative compaction ratio of soil and embeded depth of pile. In the model tests, embeded depth ratio(L/D) of pile were installed 15, 20, 25 and relative compaction of soil(RC) is 85%, 95% and then cement were injected at around perimeter of pile. For analysis of embedded pile, the paper were compared results of model tests with analysis results by Vijayvergiya model and Castelli model, Gwizdala model of elastic plasticity-perfect plastic model and then the fitness load transfer mechanism was proposed to predict load-settlement behaviour of embeded pile. The analysis results of predicted bearing capacity by load transfer function, ultimate bearing capacity of embeded pile were approached to measured value and behaviour of initial load-settlement curve were estimated that load transfer function by Castelli were similar to measured value. The result of axial load analysis of bored pile shows that skin friction estimated by load transfer mechanism is investigated more a little than that of measured values.
This research focused on analyzing the post-fire behavior of high-performance concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns, with the concrete containing tire rubber and steel fibers, under axial compressive loading. The finite element (FE) modeling of such heated columns containing recycled aggregate is a branch of this field which has not received the proper attention of researchers. Better understanding the post-fire behavior of these columns by measuring their residual strength and deformation is critical for achieving the minimum repair level required for structures damaged in the fire. Therefore, to develop this model, 19 groups of confined and unconfined specimens with the variables including the volume ratio of steel fibers, tire rubber content, diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratio of the steel tube, and exposure temperature were considered. The ABAQUS software was employed to model the tested specimens so that the accurate behavior of the FE-modeled specimens could be examined under test conditions. To achieve desirable results for the modeling of the specimens, in addition to the novel procedure described in this research, the modified versions of models presented by previous researchers were also utilized. After the completion of modeling, the load-axial strain and load-lateral strain relationships, ultimate strength, and failure mode of the modeled CFST specimens were evaluated against the test data, through which the satisfactory accuracy of this modeling procedure was established. Afterward, using a parametric study, the effect of factors such as the concrete core strength at different temperatures and the D/t ratio on the behavior of the CFST columns was explored. Finally, the compressive strength values obtained from the FE model were compared with the corresponding values predicted by various codes, the results of which indicated that most codes were conservative in terms of these predictions.
In this research, the gene expression programming (GEP) technique was employed to provide a new model for predicting the maximum loading capacity of concrete-encased steel (CES) columns. This model was developed based on 96 CES column specimens available in the literature. The six main parameters used in the model were the compressive strength of concrete (fc), yield stress of structural steel (fys), yield stress of steel rebar (fyr), and cross-sectional areas of concrete, structural steel, and steel rebar (Ac, As and Ar respectively). The performance of the prediction model for the ultimate load-carrying capacity was investigated using different statistical indicators such as root mean square error (RMSE), correlation coefficient (R), mean absolute error (MAE), and relative square error (RSE), the corresponding values of which for the proposed model were 620.28, 0.99, 411.8, and 0.01, respectively. Here, the predictions of the model and those of available codes including ACI ITG, AS 3600, CSA-A23, EN 1994, JGJ 138, and NZS 3101 were compared for further model assessment. The obtained results showed that the proposed model had the highest correlation with the experimental data and the lowest error. In addition, to see if the developed model matched engineering realities and corresponded to the previously developed models, a parametric study and sensitivity analysis were carried out. The sensitivity analysis results indicated that the concrete cross-sectional area (Ac) has the greatest effect on the model, while parameter (fyr) has a negligible effect.

The parametric analysis on ultimate behavior of buried cylindrical GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) septic tank was presented. Two kinds of F.E. analysis model(soil-spring model and 3D full model) was constructed. The ultimate behavior of septic tank was investigated according to the size of stiffened steel ring and properties of underground soil. Ramberg-Osgood model and Druker-Prager model were used for material nonlinear characteristics of GFRP septic tank and soil, respectively. The diameter and thickness of stiffened steel ring inside septic tank, elastic modulus and internal friction angle of soil were selected for parametric variables. The ultimate behavior of septic tank, load-displacement, axial and hoop strain, were calculated and investigated.
In this study, 1/6 small-scale model tests of helical piles were conducted to evaluate their installation time and ultimate capacities. Model sand layers were constructed using sand pluviating method to produce uniform soil relative density. For installation of different helical piles varying locations (vertical center-to-center spacings of 50 mm and 150 mm) of helix plates, two different rotation speeds of 15 rpm and 30 rpm were implemented. Cone penetration equipment was installed within the hallow section of the helical pile to increase ultimate capacity of helical pile and to evaluate soil properties of plugged soils and soils below pile tip after installation of the piles. Based on the test results, the most fasted installation was possible under the condition of "rotation speed of 30 rpm and center-to-center spacing of 50 mm", and the highest ultimate capacity was mobilized under the condition of "rotation speed of 30 rpm and center-to-center spacing of 150 mm with cone penetration implementation."
