  • Recently, studies on wearable devices in ubiquitous computing environments have increased and the technology collecting user's activities to provide services has received great attention. We have compared the step counting methods according to sensor molding methods in case of counting steps by using the piezoelectric sensor. We have classified the cases which could result from the course of molding the internal module of a smart shoe as follows: (i) the module is unmolded, (ii) molded but only to the extent that a sensor is fixed or (iii) molded to the extent that a sensor is not moved. Moreover, we have made comparison to verify which algorithm should be used to increase the accuracy of counting steps by the respective cases. Based on the comparison result, we have confirmed that the accuracy of counting steps is higher when using gradient value rather than when using threshold value. In the case of no molding and small molding under the condition of using gradient value, it was turned out to be 100% accuracy for step counting.

  • The smart cities are evolving constantly and are responsible for the current transformation of cities and countries into a completely connected network of information and technology This interconnected network of a huge number of smart devices is capable of exchanging complex information and provides tremendous support including enhanced quality of life within urban locations. Unfortunately this set-up is vulnerable to security attacks and requires the widespread ubiquitous network to authorize access through privacy and thus offer security in order to ensure civilian participation in a country. The smart network should benefit the individuals of the country by developing potential strategies to protect the smart cities and their participating entities from the unauthorized attacks. Trustworthy data sharing strategies based on the utilization of advanced technology features via smart communication network could solve some issues of privacy and security. This paper presents the challenges and issues related to protection and highlights the important aspects of securing the smart cities and its components. It also presents the role of cloud security for building a secure smart city.

  • The portable mobile devices with high performance and high speed 5G network activate and explode the demands for ubiquitous information services that remove the limitations of time for the communication and places to request for the information. NN (Nearest Neighbor) search is one of the most important types of queries to be processed efficiently in the information services. Various indexes have been proposed to support efficient NN search in the wireless broadcast system. The indexes adopting Hilbert curve, grid partition or Voronoi diagram enable the clients to search for NN quickly in the wireless broadcast channel. It is necessary that an efficient means to evaluate the performances of various indexes. In this paper, we propose an open framework that can adopt a variety of indexing schemes and evaluate and compare the performances of them. The proposed framework is organized with open and flexible structure that can adopt hybrid indexing schemes extensible to Voronoi diagram as well as simple indexing schemes. With the implemented framework, we demonstrate the efficiency and scalability and flexibility of the proposed framework by evaluating various indexing schemes for NN query.

  • Recently, a wide variety of studies on future learning have appeared owing to rapid advances in information and communication technology (ICT) and increased discussion about core competencies in twenty-first-century learning. These studies, though insufficient in number, cover various fields such as architecture (design of the learning space), education (learning model), and technology (adaptation of mobile devices). However, these studies focus on mainstream students and do not discuss the future situation of inclusive education with regard to both mainstream and students with physical disabilities. Hence, in order to fill this gap, the present study explores the perceptions and ideas held by special education preservice teachers on the future learning space with regard to school design and peer-to-peer feedback. For this purpose, these preservice teachers' design proposals about future school were collected and analyzed. In conclusion, special education preservice teachers perceive the future learning space as an inclusive environment in which smart technology is incorporated. Future learning environment were categorized in terms of flexible, ubiquitous technology, physical and mental health, safety, and spaces with facilities for students with physical disabilities.

  • To realize advanced collaboration environments for knowledge workers distributed geographically, there are extensive researches in ubiquitous computing environments. Especially, to cope with several known problems in traditional collaboration tools such as limited display resolution, uncomfortable shared documentation, difficult operation of collaboration environments, various approaches are attempted in the aspect of framework design. In this paper, we design a framework for collaboration environments covering hardware/software/networking architecture to flexibly coordinate a set of collaboration services and devices considering users' expectation and node capabilities. Based on the proposed framework, we develop the collaboration environment supporting the interactive networked tiled display enabling media/data sharing via networking, display interaction using pointing/tracking, and high-resolution tiled display. Finally the demonstration of the developed prototype is introduced to prove the possibility of its realization.

  • The development of computing technology and networking has developed into a fundamental technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which provides a ubiquitous environment. In the ubiquitous environment, the IoT environment has become an issue so that various devices and the things can be actively accessed and connected. Also, the RFID system using the wireless identification code attaches an RFID tag to the object, such as the production and distribution of products. It is applied to the management very efficiently. EPCglobal is conducting a research on RFID system standardization and various security studies. Since RFID systems use wireless environment technology, there are more security threats than wire problems. In particular, failure to provide confidentiality, indistinguishability, and forward safety could expose them to various threats in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Therefore, this study analyzes the standard method of EPCgolbal and proposes RFID security method using hash code that can consider the amount of computation.

  • Recently, new computing technologies are emerging from various life environments, as a result of the spread of network environments and the advent of new computing devices. This trend in computing technology is called "Ubiquitous computing" and is being developed to provide a convenient lifestyle through the dynamic integration of physical objects and digital information. The hybrid tag interface suggested in this paper is a usage model that integrates widely used image codes and recently applied RFIDs in various applications. On the basis of this concept, we eventually designed five different models such as Dual, Partial, Relative, Rebind and Discrete types according to their interrelation. In this paper, the characteristics of tag interfaces in the form of image codes and RFIDs are analyzed and the hybrid tag interface is proposed here for more efficient and convenient interface.

  • Due to recent development in wireless communication technologies and mobile information devices, the services on ubiquitous computing technology without time and place restriction have been spotlighted. Moreover, the interest of the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and context-awareness technologies have largely been escalating and their technologies utilization is active in the various applications such as healthcare, farm management and so on. However, the direct adaption of the existing context-awareness technique to the WSN technology has several drawbacks as follows. First, such systems waste precious energy of sensor nodes, due to unnecessary data transmissions. Secondly, since the existing work was designed to support only specific applications, it is required to implement a new context-awareness application for a specific purpose. Therefore, we, in this paper, propose a new real-time monitoring system based on context-awareness in WSNs. Our system not only enhances energy efficiency by reducing data transmissions by doing context-awareness on a sensor node, but also is scalable in terms of supporting new context-awareness functionalities through modularization.

In particular, the emergence of various mobile devices and the introduction of a wireless sensor network technology have accelerated the realization of the u-healthcare. The multi-agent paradigm has been introduced for satisfying both the integration of information and the various application scenarios established from various environments. This paper describes the software structure and u-applications for u-hospital information system based on ubiquitous environments. And it suggested the construction of a multi agent based distributed framework for supporting u-hospital information system. The suggested framework includes the JADE and distributed object group framework. And it implemented u-application services for supporting doctors and nurses, which provides the patient's health information and ward environment information. Especially, it is using a dynamic security mechanism on the security situation, which has not been emphasized in existing researches, and this paper shows the results for each user through the GUI.
