Design characteristics of the space depends on the type of design. This study organized gender perceptual characteristics from terminology that is used in the process of obtaining information about corresponding space intended to represent design types and the images which were selected by design experts. The results from the study are concluded as in the followings: First: in the Modern type, the males show "the somewhat high difference of the images" from formality and decoration. Also, the study shows that males perceive very high in "the very high difference of the images" from spatiality, formality, and decoration. Second: in case of modern and minimal types, females perceive the spatiality and the males perceive formality and decoration. This study shows that modern type contains a lot of adjective, which means the man overwhelmingly perceives than the woman perceives in the decoration of modern type. Third: while males in modern and minimal types perceive formality and decoration greatly, they perceive spatiality greatly in natural types. In contrast, females in modern and minimal types perceive spatiality greatly, but perceive decoration slightly larger in natural types. These results tell us that the gender can appear differently depending on which types. This study analyzed gender perception characteristics to the design types, which were selected by a group of design experts. The difference between the types of design occurs in the differences of space sense and image by gender. Through analyzing the differences of spatial types, it is clear that different genders perceive different characteristics.
This study is to suggest design types and to identify design characteristics of traditional style public buildings. Since the types of such buildings became very diverse recently, proper classification criteria is essential for future design and evaluation. The demand for such buildings is continuously increasing, but the types of design is very varied; thus it seems important to identify the present design conditions, and to be able to suggest desirable directions for better designs. The research analyzes 31 examples of public buildings in Gwangju Metropolitan City and South Jeolla Province, where there are large number of traditional style public buildings than anywhere else in Korea, and tried to analyzed site plan, elevation, space, details and organizes Design types. This study can help to roughly identify the problems of existing design as well as to suggest improvements in the future design.
Owing to generalization of design competitions since 1990s, various design methods was tried in elementary middle high school design competitions. Therefore, to analyze design characteristics of elementary middle high school is very meaningful. In this context, this study is the most important purpose for analyzing layout plans and their trends in prizewinners of elementary middle high school design competitions and for furnishing basic datum for next school design. The result of this study is following : (1) The layout patterns of school buildings are classified into 12 types. (2) Entrance design is divided into 6 types(structure, column and wall, open, half structure, general, and mixed type). (3) Square design is grouped into 7 types. (4) Pedestrian mall is sorted out 6 types(straight lineal, curve, curve and square, straight lineal and curve, and straight lineal and curve and square type). (5) Entrance types of vehicle and pedestrian are classified into 4 types(parallel, ㅡ separation, ㄱ separation, and opposite separation type) Analysis shows that the best applying for layout patterns of school buildings is ㄷ type and ㅌ type, for entrance design is structure type, for square design is ${\square}$ type and ${\bigcirc}$ type, for pedestrian mall is straight lineal and square type, and for entrance types of vehicle and pedestrian is parallel type.
In recent years, the architectural interest in the apartment design has been getting focused on qualitative improvement and design differentiation. Especially the facade design differentiation is one of the most important elements in this matter. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic informations that can be referenced when architects are dealing with exterior design by analyzed design types and characteristics of apartment entrances. Target apartment of this study was whasung dongtan the 2nd phase new city districts which was planned to solve a housing shortage in the capital region. Having examined eleven pilot districts, four 1st construction areas, and eight 2nd construction areas, - total 23 complexes - 282 apartment entrances in 212 apartment buildings were carefully researched. Apartment entrance design can be divided into 15 different design elements: design types and combination types, direction, shape, height, approach types, exterior wall finishes of entrance, exterior wall finishes of lower parts of apartment, handrail types of slope, floor finishes of slope, distribution ratio of piloti, ceiling height of piloti, floor finishes of piloti, space use of piloti, window establishment between piloti and elevator hall, landscape elements of piloti. Design characteristics of building entrances were also analyzed in 4 groups (I, II, III, IV) divided by construction contractors ranking. In conclusion, first, design types and combination types can be classified into 15 different kinds, and the group I and II tend to show wider variety of entrance combinations. Secondly, the height and volume of extrude entrance type tend to increase in the group I and II. Third, the spatial configuration of pilotis appears to show more of 'pass + store + break' rather than 'access', as we get closer to the group I.
This study explores the types of lifestyle of females living in urban areas, and examines the relationship between the types of lifestyle and the preference for interior design images. The research sample is 301 adult females in Kwangju City, Korea. The sample is divided into two groups by employment status. Based on eight lifestyles by related factors, four major lifestyle types are classified: traditional type, private and sensible type, passive and private type, and environment-oriented and sensible type. The portions of these types are 32.6% of passive and private type, 21.6% of environment-oriented and sensible one, 21.6% of active and sensible one, and 16.6% of traditional one. The research of the lifestyle types reveals that they differ by age, marital status, education, and dwelling types. There are negligible differences among four types in preference for three interior design images.
This study deals with apartments, the representative form of residence in Korea, and analyzes the residential plane of 30-pyong apartments that are constructed by the 5 construction companies within in the past three years. It is discovered that these apartments show a certain form and that developing the frame work of interior elements according to the characteristics of family types of 30-pyong apartment residents and the process for such a frame work are needed. Therefore, by analyzing the differences of residential forms according to resident types, this investigation tries to approach the design centering around users. To summarize the steps and contents of this study, first, it draws the understanding and the study field of common residential space, second, it shows the characteristics of family types within residential space, third, it analyzes and verifies the differences of characteristics according to family types within the representative size and form of plane. This investigation is aimed to provide the reasons for developing different planes according to family types despite they may be of the same size, to show the frame of the study method for developing the plane design and the interior element design for users and to suggest the way of designing residence in a conditional approach applying the conditions of users within common residential space.
The servicescape of a design hotel means the physical environment in which a service is produced and consumed. Servicescape refers to the comprehensive physical environment perceived by users and is composed of physical elements such as ambient conditions, space, function, signs, symbols and artifacts. For a successful operation of a design hotel, it is necessary to investigate the design hotel's servicescape types according to characteristics of design hotel's servicescape to provide various servicescape. The purpose of this study is to classify the types of servicescape on design hotel and analyze characteristics through the case study. A case study on Europe's design hotels to find various servicescape design methods was conducted. According to characteristics of design hotel the types, it is also categorized into four different types: history/tradition, art/culture, collaboration, locality. The case study demonstrated that European design hotels were making many efforts for their uniqueness and differentiation by considering the cultural and historical characteristics of their city and providing art and cultural space for their community. The purpose of this study is to analyze the elevations of standard rural house designs after the 1990's. Various types of analysis were carried out on a total of 18 different sizes and 50 types of designs with p'yong sizes ranging from 12 to 44. The objects of analysis are the various elevations & the roof types that were supplied in the standard rural house design according to each year 1995 (8 sizes 20 types), 1997 (8 sizes 8 types), 1998 (l size 8 types), 2000 (2 sizes 4 types), 2001 (2 sizes 4 types), and 2004 (3 sizes 6 types). Results from the analysis demonstrate that (1) The gable roof has been used as the roofing type for standard rural house design since 1990. However the roof types of the standard rural house design includes only a few different types of gable roofs and roof materials(most roof types use asphalt shingle). (2) While most front elevations have been altered from asymmetrical to symmetrical most rear elevations have evolved from symmetrical to asymmetrical proportions since the 1990's (3) While siding materials and red-brick were most commonly used the main outer-wall materials prior to 2000, environmentally-friendly materials have been used as outer-wall materials since 2000. (4) In terms of the analysis of outer-wall objects before 2000 the walls were even, yet after 2000 these outer-walls evolved to become concave-convex walls. In other words, the evolution of the outer-wall has included a variety of wall types.
