Up to now, Japan has more than 200 corrugated steel web composite beam bridges which are under construction and have been constructed, and China has more than 30 corrugated steel web composite beam bridges. The bridge type includes the simply supported beam, continuous beam, continuous rigid frame and cable stayed bridge etc. The section form has developed to the single box and multi-cell box girder from the original single box and single chamber. From the stress performance and cost saving, the span range of 50~150 m is the most competitive. At present, the design mostly adopts the computational analytical method combining the spatial bar system model, plane beam grillage model and solid model. However, the spatial bar system model is short of the refinement analysis on the space effect, such as the shear lag effect, effective distribution width problem, and eccentric load factor problem etc. Due to the similarity of the plane beam grillage method in the equivalence principle, it cannot accurately reflect the shearing stress distribution and local stress of the top and bottom plates of the box type composite beam. The solid model is very difficult to combine with the overall calculation. Moreover, the spatial grid model can achieve the refinement analysis, with the integrity of the analysis and the comprehensiveness of the stress checking calculation, and can make up the deficiency of the analytical method currently. Through the example verification of the solid model and spatial grid model, it can be seen that the calculation results for the stress and the displacement of two models are almost consistent, indicating the applicability and precision of the spatial grid model.
This paper studied the probability of pounding occurred between decks and abutments of a long span high-pier continuous rigid fame bridge subjected to ground motions with local soil effect. A pounding probability analysis methodology has been proposed using peak acceleration at bedrock as intensity measure (IM) for multi-support seismic analysis. The bridge nonlinear finite element (FE) models was built with four different separation distances. Effect of actual site condition and non-uniform spatial soil profiles on seismic wave propagating from bedrock to ground surface is modelled. Pounding probability of the high-pier bridge under multi-support seismic excitations (MSSE) is analyzed based on the nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis (n-IDA). Pounding probability results under uniform excitations (UE) without actual local site effect are compared with that under MSSE with site effect. The study indicates that the required design separation length between deck and abutment under uniform excitations is larger than that under MSSE as the peak acceleration at bedrock increases. As the increase of both separation distance between deck and abutment and the peak acceleration, the probability of pounding occurred at a single abutment or at two abutments simultaneously under MSSE is less than that under UE. It is of great significance considering actual local site effect for determining the separation distance between deck and abutment through the probability pounding analysis of the high-pier bridge under MSSE.
The Load and Resistance Factor Design(LRFD) Specification defines two sets of limiting width-to-thickness ratios. On the basis of these limiting values, steel sections are subdivided into three categories: compact, noncompact, and slender sections. In this paper, I-Type girders of a 2 span continuous steel bridge are divided into compact and non-compact sections and analyzed. In the design process, an optimization formulation was adopted and ADS, a Fortran program for Automated Design Synthesis, was used. In this study, we studied about change of the section between compact and non-compact using optimization formulation.

This paper introduces a shape memory alloy-restrainer-damper(SMA-RD) to protect multiple span continuous steel bridges from seismic loads. The type of bridges has only one fixed bearing condition on a pier and expansion bearings are located on the other piers and abutments. Due to this state and a big mass of the deck, these bridges are usually very vulnerable to column's damage on which fixed bearings are located and large deformation of abutments in passive action. Two types of SMA-RDs are developed, and their effect is inspected for protecting the bridges through seismic analyses. Conventional steel restrainer cables are also used to reduce the seismic vulnerability of the bridge and the results are compared to those of the SMA-RDs.

In seismic analysis, there are two main ways - uniform load method and dynamic analysis, dynamic analysis can be divided into response spectrum analysis and time history analysis. In case of which get the complexion of the vibration with 3-axis of coordinate direction in each mode of free vibration mode happened owing to complication of the shape, 3-dimensional dynamic analysis is recommended to perform as multi-mode spectral analysis in standard specification for highway bridge. The purpose of this study is to understand the dynamic behavior by performing multi-mode seismic analysis according to responses analysis and time history anal)'sis in using record of earthquake. In accordance with the criterion of seismic design as defined in standard specification for highway bridge by using modified records of the El Centre and Coyote Lake earthquake, response spectrum was constructed by using the tripartite logarithmic plot. The 3-span continuous space truss bridge was selected as model of numerical analysis. As the result performed time history analysis and analysis of response spectrum for the model of numerical analysis, the result of time history analysis was slightly larger than that of response spectrum analysis. This coincide with the tendency of the result came from the analysis when using a jagged response spectrum analysis, This coincide with the tendency of the result came from the analysis when using a jagged response spectrum for a single excitation. In the Process of performing these two analysis. response spectrum analysis is more effective than time history analysis in saving times in analyzing data.
A study on the evaluation of proper spacing and required flexural rigidity of cross beams in composite two I-section steel girder bridges without a lateral and sway bracing system was performed. Specifically, a 2-lane, 40-m simple span bridge and a 3-span continuous (40+50+10m) bridge were designed, and structural analyses under dead load before and after composite, live, wind, and seismic loads were performed using spacing and flexural rigidity or cross beams as parameters. Through parametric analysis, the effect on the stresses due to the combination of loads and live load distribution was investigated. In addition. material and geometric nonlinear analyses under dead load before composite were performed to evaluate the lateral buckling strength of the steel girders and cross beam. Based on the results or such analyses, the proper spacing and flexural rigidity of cross beams at intermediate points and supports were proposed.
Experimental research was performed on the 6m-6m two-span, continuous composite beams. Background research for the crack width control of continuous composite bridges in the Eurocode-4 is reviewed and equationsfor the calculation of crack width considering tension stiffening are presented. The behavior of the continuous composite beams was investigated using the initial and stabilized cracking process of the concrete slab in tension. Test results showed that the current requirement of minimum reinforcement for ductility in Korea Highway Bridge Design Codes could be reduced. The flexural stiffness of cracked continuous composite beams can be evaluated by the uncracked section analysis until the stabilized cracking stage. An empirical equation for the relationship between the stress of tensile reinforcements and crack width was obtained from the test results.
In the last decades, research efforts have been spent to investigate the effect of prestressing on the dynamic behaviour of prestressed concrete (PSC) beams. Whereas no agreement has been reached among the achievements obtained by different Researchers and among the theoretical and the experimental results for simply supported beams, very few researches have addressed this problem in continuous PSC beams. This topic is, indeed, worthy of consideration bearing in mind that many relevant bridges and viaducts in the road and railway networks have been designed and constructed with this structural scheme. In this paper the attention is, thus, focused on the dynamic features of continuous PSC bridges taking into account the effect of prestressing. This latter, in fact, contributes to the modification of the distribution of the bending stress along the beam, also by means of the secondary moments, and influences the flexural stiffness of the beam itself. The dynamic properties of a continuous, two spans bridge connected by a nonlinear spring have been extracted by solving an eigenvalue problem in different linearized configurations corresponding to different values of the prestress force. The stiffness of the nonlinear spring has been calculated considering the mechanical behaviour of the PSC beam in the uncracked and in the cracked stage. The application of the proposed methodology to several case studies indicates that the shift from the uncracked to the cracked stage due to an excessive prestress loss is clearly detectable looking at the variation of the dynamic properties of the beam. In service conditions, this shift happens for low values of the prestress losses (up to 20%) for structure with a high value of the ratio between the permanent load and the total load, as happens for instance in long span, continuous box bridges. In such conditions, the detection of the dynamic properties can provide meaningful information regarding the structural state of the PSC beam.

The LRFD Specification defines two sets of limiting width-to-thickness ratios. On the basis of these limiting values, steel sections we subdivided into three categories: compact, noncompact, and slender sections. A compact section is capable of developing a fully plastic stress distribution (plastic moment), and can sustain rotations approximately three times beyond the yield before the possibility of local buckling arises. Noncompact sections can develop the yield stress before local buckling occurs. They may not, however, resist local buckling at the strain levels required to develop the fully plastic stress distribution. In this paper, 1-Type girders of a 2 span continuous steel bridge are divided into compact and non-compact sections and analyzed. In the design process, an optimization skill was adopted and ADS, a Fortran program for Automated Design Synthesis, was used.

The composite two plate-girder bridges are generally defined as a non-redundant load path structure because the bridge can collapse if one of the two girders is seriously damaged by a fatigue crack. In this paper, a numerical study on the evaluation of the after-fracture redundancy of the composite two-girder bridges was accomplished. The evaluation has been performed on the simple and three-span continuous bridges with I-section cross beams which serve as transverse bracing, and with or without the bottom lateral bracing system. The load carrying capacities of the intact and damaged bridges with or without lateral bracing were evaluated from material and geometric nonlinear analysis, respectively and the redundancy was evaluated for each case. It was acknowledged from the analytical results that both simple and continuous intact two-girder bridges have sufficient redundancy even without lateral bracing, but it takes an important role to improve the redundancy of damaged bridges.
