As operating frequency is raised and as more integration with active and passive elements is required, it becomes difficult to fabricate more than 120 ${\Omega}$ characteristic impedance of a mierostrip line. To solve this problem, an equivalent high impedance transmission-line section is suggested, which consists mainly of a pair of coupled-line sections with two shorts. However, it becomes a transmission-line section only when its electrical length is fixed and its coupling power is more than half. To have transmission-line characteristics(perfect matching), independently of coupling power and electrical length, two identical open stubs are added and conventional design equations of evenand odd-mode impedances are modified, based on the fact that the modified design equations have the linear combinations of conventional ones. The high impedance transmission-line section is a passive component and therefore should be perfectly matched, at least at a design center frequency. For this, two different solutions are derived for the added open stub and two types of high impedance transmission-line sections with 160 ${\Omega}$ characteristic impedance are simulated as the electrical lengths of the coupled-line sections are varied. The simulation results show that the determination of the available bandwidth location depends on which solution is chosen. As an application, branch-line hybrids with very weak coupling power are investigated, depending on where an isolated port is located, and two types of branch-line hybrids are derived for each case. To verify the derived branch-line hybrids, a microstrip branch-line hybrid with -15 dB coupling power, composed of two 90$^{\circ}$ and two 270$^{\circ}$ transmission-line sections, is fabricated on a substrate of ${\varepsilon}_r$= 3.4 and h=0.76 mm and measured. In this case, 276.7 ${\Omega}$ characteristic impedance is fabricated using the suggested high impedance transmission-line sections. The measured coupling power is -14.5 dB, isolation and matching is almost perfect at a design center frequency of 2 GHz, showing good agreement with the prediction.

In this paper, two types of wideband 3-dB ring hybrids are compared and discussed to show the ring hybrid with a set of coupled-line sections better. However, the better one still has a realization problem that perfect matching can be achieved only with -3 dB coupling power. To solve the problem, a set of coupled-line sections with two shorts is synthesized using one- and two-port equivalent circuits and design equations are derived to have perfect matching, regardless of the coupling power. Based on the design equations, a modified ${\Pi}-type$ of transmission-line equivalent circuit is newly suggested. It consists of coupled-line sections with two shorts and two open stubs and can be used to reduce a transmission-line section, especially when its electrical length is greater than ${\pi}$. Therefore, the $3\;{\lambda}/4$ transmission-line section of a conventional ring hybrid can be reduced to less than ${\pi}/2$. To verify the modified ${\Pi}-type$ of transmission- line equivalent circuit, two kinds of simulations are carried out; one is fixing the electrical length of the coupled-line sections and the other fixing its coupling coefficient. The simulation results show that the bandwidths of resulting small transmission lines are strongly dependent on the coupling power. Using modified and conventional ${\Pi}-types$ of transmission-line equivalent circuits, a small ring hybrid is built and named a compact wideband coupled-line ring hybrid, due to the fact that a set of coupled-line sections is included. One of compact ring hybrids is compared with a conventional ring hybrid and the compared results demonstrate that the bandwidth of a proposed compact ring hybrid is much wider, in spite of being more than three times smaller in size. To test the compact ring hybrids, a microstrip compact ring hybrid, whose total transmission-line length is $220^{\circ}$, is fabricated and measured. The measured power divisions($S_{21}$, $S_{41}$, $S_{23}$ and $S_{43}$) are -2.78 dB, -3.34 dB, -2.8 dB and -3.2 dB, respectively at a design center frequency of 2 GHz, matching and isolation less than -20 dB in more than 20 % fractional bandwidth.

Corona characteristics of conductors are dependent on the electric field conditions in the immediate vicinity of the conductors. In case of DC transmission line, particularly, the space charge plays an important role in the electric field distribution. Therefore, DC corona cage simulation is necessary for long-term test in the same conditions. This paper presents the results of designing and constructing hardwares such as DC power supply, measurement system and DAS to carry out the simulation. The corona cage longitudinally is divided into five equal length sections and three inner sections of those are isolated from the ground of outer cage. The measurement items are radio noise, corona current, television noise, audible noise and meteorological conditions. In the next step, various simulations about the type and configuration of two or three candidate conductors will be conducted. And then finally an environmentally-friendly conductor for HVDC overhead transmission line will be decided.

In this paper, a $\lambda/4$ hairpin resonator is proposed to reduce the size of planar resonators for a LTCC MLC bandpass filter. The $\lambda/4$ hairpin resonator operates as stepped impedance resonator (SIR) without changing the width of the planar resonator. It is composed of two sections those are parallel coupled line and transmission line. The characteristic impedance of two sections is different each other. The design formulas of the bandpass filter using the coupling element at the arbitrary position are derived from even and odd-mode analysis. The formulas can take account of the arbitrary coupling of lumped ana/or distributed resonators. The advantage of this filter is its abilities to change freely the coupling structure between two resonators. Experimental bandpass filters for 2.4GHz Band are implemented and their performances are shown.

The cylindrical TEM mode solution for electromagnetic coupling to an angled two-wire transmission line is corrected by imposing some physical constraints additionally. The validity of the correction process is assured by showing that the corrected solution approaches the numerical result for the equivalent model of cascaded piecewise uniform sections.

In this paper, two new circuit structures for European and U.S. ultra-wide band(UWB) bandpass filters(BPFs) with sharp roll-off characteristics are introduced. We show first that the ultra-wide bandpass property is obtained from a $\lambda$/4 open T resonator with a capacitively coupled $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line, which provides two attenuation poles at lower and upper cutoff frequencies. Then, two identical capacitively coupled input/output lines, which can be $\lambda$/4-length open ends or $\lambda$/2-length short ends, with the T-resonator, are adopted to suppress lower and higher frequency components outside of the pass band. There is coupling between the input and output lines providing two additional transmission zeros in the lower and upper transition bands of the filter. Since the coupling between the T-resonator with the $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line and the input/output lines limits the bandwidth of the filter to the European UWB band, both the $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line and the input/output lines are inserted between the two stacked T-resonators for the U.S. UWB band. The filter structures are simulated with ADS and HFSS and realized with low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) green tape which has the dielectric constant of 7.8. Measurement results agree well with HFSS simulation results.

In this paper, an analytic method is proposed to extract the reference slot admittance required for the design of a non-resonant waveguide edge slot array. A slot and two neighboring transmission line sections of the numerous alternately inclined slots with the identical inclination angle are modelled as a uniform lossy transmission line, and thus, the total ABCD matrix is easily calculated and compared with the simulated or measured one. From this procedure, the complex characteristic impedance and the complex propagation constant of the lossy transmission line are calculated and the normalized slot admittance is analytically obtained. In order to validate the proposed method, the admittance value of a reference slotted waveguide fabricated for designing the X-band edge slot array is extracted and it is compared with the one obtained by the other conventional method.

Recently, wireless communication systems have been developed and the circuits which operate with the broad-band for multiband uses were introduced. However, broad-band circuits have problems that inevitably increase the size. Dual-band circuit operates only two frequency, therefore, it will be able to miniaturize through unnecessary decreased elements. The Wilkinson power divider is the one of the most commonly used components in wireless communication system for power division. Nowaday, the Wilkinson power divider is also demanded dual-band. In this paper, I propose miniaturized dual-band Wilkinson power divider operating at 2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz for IEEE 802.11n standard. Proposed dual-band Wilkinson power divider is used in parallel stub line. The design is accomplished by transforming the electrical length and impedance of the quarter wave sections of the conventional Wilkinson power divider into dual band ${\pi}$-shaped sections.

The characteristics of the floating breakwater is briefly reviewed and their performance is numerically investigated. The numerical scheme is a boundary integral method for inviscid potential flows, and various two-dimensional floating breakwater modules are studied focusing on the transmission coefficient. The general characteristics of pontoons is studied as function of mooring line stiffness, mass moment inertia and draft. Trapezoidal-, hat- and table-shape cross-sections are also studied with varying shape-parameters. The efficiency varies with changes in each shape-parameter and for some cases satisfying tranquility can be expected with even longer waves.
