Viscoelastic fluid is used in various industrial sites because its cost reduction and environmental benefits by preventing formation of fine droplets that scattered around. However, viscoelastic fluids, unlike newtonian fluids, contain a shear thinning characteristic that decrease in viscosity as shear rate increases and elastic characteristic, making it difficult to predict spray breakup process. In this study we made three test fluids. Boger fluid with viscoelastic characteristics, and two newtonian fluids, were prepared to exclude shear thinning characteristics and study the effects of elastic characteristic only. Flow visualization, spray angle, and SMD were measured for three test fluids using laboratory scale impinging jet test apparatus. As a result, it was confirmed that Boger fluid, unlike the newtonian fluid, was not formed fine droplets that scattered around and the breakup process appeared differently. In addition, SMD was found to be large in Boger fluid, and the SMD according to pressure was confirmed that there is no significant difference.
There are multistage preheaters in the power generation plan to improve the thermal efficiency of the plant and to prevent the components from the thermal shock. The energy source of these heaters comes from the extracted two phase fluid of working system. These two-phase fluid can cause the so-called Flow Accelerated Corrosion(FAC) in the extracting piping and the bubble plate of the heater for example, in case of point Beach Nuclear Power Plant and in the Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant. The FAC is due to the mass transport of the thin oxide layer by the convection. FAC is dependent on many parameters such as the operation temperature, void fraction, the fluid velocity and pH of fluid and so on. Therefore, in this paper velocity was calculated by FLUENT code in order to find out the root cause of the wall thinning of the feedwater heaters. It also includeed in the fluid mixing analysis model are around the number 5A feedwater heater shell including the extraction pipeline. To identify the relation between the local velocities and wall thinning, the local velocities according to the analysis results were compared with distribution of the shell wall thicknes by ultrasonic test.
The numerical analysis of fluid flow in the tube cleaning system is examined. The working flow used in this study is seawater, and the temperature change is not considered as the temperature change of seawater in the tube cleaning system is negligible. Also, the analysis is performed under the assumption of steady state. The screens of complicated morphologies are simplified for the analysis, and only one fourth of the tube cleaning system is modeled as the system has a symmetrical shape. The velocity inlet boundary condition is employed for the seawater inlet, whereas the outflow boundary condition is employed for two seawater outlets. In applying the outflow boundary condition for the system with more than two outlets, the flow rate can be arbitrarily assigned. In the analysis, the finite-volume method based numerical analysis tool, the pressure based solver, the standard k-$\varepsilon$ model are utilized, and the under relaxation factor is modified appropriately. From the analysis, the distribution of velocity vectors, pressure and path lines are obtained, and the physical characteristics of fluid flow in the tube cleaning system is well-examined.

In this study, advanced computational analysis system has been developed in order to investigate flow-induced vibration(FIV) phenomenon for general stator-rotor cascade configurations. Relative movement of the rotor with respect to stator is reflected by modeling Independent two computational domains. Fluid domains are modeled using the unstructured grid system with dynamic moving and local deforming methods. Unsteady, Reynolds-averaged Wavier-stokes equations with one equation Spalart-Allmaras and two-equation SST ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence models are solved for unsteady flow problems and also relative moving and vibration effects of the rotor cascade are fully considered. A coupled implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark integration method is used for computing the governing equations of fluid-structure interaction problems. Detailed vibration responses for different flow conditions are presented and then vibration characteristics are physically investigated in the time domain as computational virtual tests.

Gas volumetric fractions and pressure loss are very important parameters in understanding and predicting gas-liquid two-phase flows. They are also essential to design large heat exchanging system in many industries, boiler and refrigerating systems mounted at ships. This paper therefore presents a theoretical method of predicting the pressure loss and gas volumetric fractions in gas-liquid two-phase flows for the whole range of pipe inclinations. The theoretical analysis is based on the two-fluid stratified flow model. It also provides the results of the comparisons between this theoretical analysis results and previous experimental results.

A derivation is given of two-scale models that are able to describe deformation and flow in a fluid-saturated and progressively fracturing porous medium. From the micromechanics of the flow in the cavity, identities are derived that couple the local momentum and the mass balances to the governing equations for a fluid-saturated porous medium, which are assumed to hold on the macroscopic scale. By exploiting the partition-of-unity property of the finite element shape functions, the position and direction of the fractures are independent from the underlying discretization. The finite element equations are derived for this two-scale approach and integrated over time. The resulting discrete equations are nonlinear due to the cohesive crack model and the nonlinearity of the coupling terms. A consistent linearization is given for use within a Newton-Raphson iterative procedure. Finally, examples are given to show the versatility and the efficiency of the approach.
The volume of fluid (VOF) model of FLUENT and the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) are used to simulate two-phase flows. Both methods are validated for static and dynamic bubble test cases and then compared to experimental results. The VOF method does not reduce the spurious currents of the static droplet test and does not satisfy the Laplace law for small droplets at the acceptable level, as compared with the LBM. For single bubble flows, simulations are executed for various Eotvos numbers, Morton numbers and Reynolds numbers, and the results of both methods agree well with the experiments in the case of low Eotvos numbers. For high Eotvos numbers, the VOF results deviated from the experiments. For multiple bubbles, the bubble flow characteristics are related by the wake of the leading bubble. The coaxial and oblique coalescence of the bubbles are simulated successfully and the subsequent results are presented. In conclusion, the LBM performs better than the VOF method.

Complex thermal hydraulic characteristics exist inside the reactor because the reactor internals consist of fuel assembly, internal structures and so on. In this study, to examine the effect of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS)-based two-equation turbulence models in the analysis of flow distribution inside a 1/5 scaled-down APR+, simulation was performed using the commercial computational fluid dynamics software, ANSYS CFX R.13 and the predicted results were compared with the measured data. It was concluded that reactor internal flow pattern was locally different depending on the turbulence models. In addition, the prediction accuracy of k-${\varepsilon}$ model was superior to that of other two-equation turbulence models and this model predicted the relatively uniform distribution of core inlet flow rate.

The effects of the gravity field and the free surface on the cavity shape and the drag are investigated through a numerical analysis for the steady supercavitating flow past a simple two-dimensional body underneath the free surface. The continuity and the RANS equations are numerically solved for an incompressible fluid using a $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and a mixture fluid model has been applied for calculating the multiphase flow of air, water and vapor using the method of volume of fluid and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model. Numerical solutions have been obtained for the supercavitating flow about a two-dimensional $30^{\circ}$ wedge in wide range of depths of submergence and inflow velocities. The results are presented for the cavity shape, especially the length and the width, and the drag of the wedge in comparison with those of the case for the infinite fluid flow neglecting the gravity and the free surface. The influences of the gravity field and the free surface on the aforementioned quantities are discussed. The length and the width of the supercavity are reduced and the centerline of the cavity rises toward the free surface due to the effects of the gravity field and the free surface. The drag coefficient of the wedge, however, is about the same except for shallow depths of submergence. As the supercavitating wedge is approaching very close to the free surface, it is found the length and the width of a cavity are shorten even though the cavitation number is reduced. Also the present result suggests that, under the influence of the gravity field and the free surface, the length of the supercavity for a certain cavitation number varies and moreover is proportional to the inverse of the submergence depth Froude number.

This article presents a numerical investigation concerning the effect of two kinds of axially progressing internal flows (namely, upward and downward) on fluid.structure interaction (FSI) dynamics about a marine riser model which is subject to external shear current. The CAE technology behind the current research is a proposed FSI solution, which combines structural analysis software with CFD technology together. Efficiency validation for the CFD software was carried out first. It has been proved that the result from numerical simulations agrees well with the observation from relating model test cases in which the fluidity of internal flow is ignorable. After verifying the numerical code accuracy, simulations are conducted to study the vibration response that attributes to the internal progressive flow. It is found that the existence of internal flow does play an important role in determining the vibration mode (/dominant frequency) and the magnitude of instantaneous vibration amplitude. Since asymmetric curvature along the riser span emerges in the case of external shear current, the centrifugal and Coriolis accelerations owing to up- and downward internal progressive flows play different roles in determining the fluid.structure interaction response. The discrepancy between them becomes distinct, when the velocity ratio of internal flow against external shear current is relatively high.
