  • This study aims to analyse the relationship between multiple intelligence and scientific creativity of science-gifted elementary students focusing on the subject of biology. For this, 37 science-gifted fifth-graders in the Science-Gifted Education Center at an Office of Education conducted a multiple intelligence test. In addition, researchers collected science-gifted students' results of scientific creativity activity at the botanical garden field trip. The main findings from this study are as follows: First, strong intelligence was logical-mathematical intelligence for gifted students, and weak intelligence was found to be naturalistic intelligence for them. Second, there was no significant correlation in the relationship between multiple intelligence and scientific creativity of science-gifted students. Third, as a result of independent two sample t-test for each intelligence and scientific creativity scores divided into the upper and lower groups, only verbal-linguistic intelligence statistically differed significantly at the level of p<.05 (t=2.13, df=35, p=0.04). Fourth, as a result of conducting a two-way analysis to see if there were any interaction effects, verbal-linguistic and visual-spatial, logical-mathematical and visual-spatial, logical-mathematical and bodily-kinesthetic, and visual-spatial and musical-rhythmic intelligence all showed significant values at the level of p<.05 level in interaction effects on originality element comprising scientific creativity. Fifth, an analysis of students with high naturalistic intelligence showed that their scores of scientific creativity tasks conducted at the botanical garden field trip were all lower. Based on the results of this study, this study discussed the implications of scientific creativity learning linking multiple intelligence in primary science education and gifted education.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the side-bridge exercise on the thicknesses of the external and internal obliques, the transverse abdominis, and the erector spinae, which are some of the trunk muscles of healthy adult males and females. Methods: There were 30 subjects divided into two groups with 15 subjects in the modified side-bridge exercise group and 15 subjects in the bridge exercise group. The changes in each variable were analyzed before the exercise, after three weeks, and after six weeks of exercise using a two-way repeated analysis of variance. The significance level was set at 0.05. When there was any interaction between the time of measurement and each group, a paired t-test was conducted to find the difference within groups and an independent-sample t-test was conducted to find the difference between groups. The significance level for both tests was set at 0.01. Results: There was a significant difference in the external and internal obliques and the erector spinae according to changes over time and the interactions between the time and groups (p < 0.05). However, there was a significant difference in the transverse abdominis only according to the interaction between the length of times (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study results indicated that the modified side-bridge exercise significantly increased the thickness of the external and internal obliques and the erector spinae. This suggests the usability of the exercise in lumbar stabilization exercises in future studies and clinical fields.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises on pain and spinal curvature in patients with chronic back pain. Design: Randomized controlled trial Methods: The research subjects included 24 women in their 40s and 50s who have chronic back pain. The sample was evenly divided into an experimental group, which received the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises, and a control group, which received stabilization exercises only. The 30-minute intervention was applied five times a week for eight weeks. A bivariate repeated measures analysis of variances was conducted to identify the differences between the two groups before the experiment, after the fourth week, and at the end of the eight-week experiment. The level of statistical significance was set at.05. This analysis examined the within-group changes and the between-group changes using a paired t-test and an independent t-test, respectively. Results: Changes in pain differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement, the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group, and between the two groups (p<.05). Changes in the curvature of the bones of the neck, the bones of the back, and the lumbar vertebrae differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement and the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group (p<.05). Conclusion: The combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises demonstrated a positive effect on changes in pain and spinal curvature, and the method is expected to be a useful intervention for reducing pain and improving spinal curvature in patients with back pain.

  • This study has two main purposes; first, it examines the effect of capital structure on profitability of Islamic and conventional banks; second, it determines that whether the capital structure of Islamic and conventional banks is same or not. A sample of ten banks was taken over the period 2006-2016. Independent samples T-test was used for finding the comparison between the capital structure of Islamic and conventional banks while for assessing the impact of capital structure on profitability, regression analysis (Fixed effects model) was used. Results showed that the capital structure of both types of banks was similar except for bank size which differed significantly. Moreover, ROA was negatively correlated to the capital structure of both conventional and Islamic banks. In contrast, ROE was positively correlated to the capital structure of both conventional and Islamic banks. In addition to that, two explanatory variables were positively correlated while two were negatively correlated to EPS for both Islamic and conventional banks. This study proves the existence of prominent theories of capital structure (pecking order theory and trade-off theory) for both conventional and Islamic banks in Pakistan and also validates the economies of scale.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to assess the compatibility of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) synthesized cephalograms with conventional cephalograms, and to find a method for obtaining normative values for three-dimensional (3D) assessments. Materials and Methods: The sample group consisted of 10 adults with normal occlusion and well-balanced faces. They were imaged using conventional and CBCT cephalograms. The CBCT cephalograms were synthesized from the CBCT data using OnDemand 3D software. Twenty-one angular and 12 linear measurements from each imaging modality were compared and analyzed using paired-t test. Results: The linear measurements between the two imaging modalities were not statistically different (p>0.05) except for the U1 to facial plane distance. The angular measurements between the two imaging modalities were not statistically different (p>0.05) with the exception of the gonial angle, ANB difference, and facial convexity. Conclusion: Two-dimensional cephalometric norms could be readily used for 3D quantitative assessment, if corrected for lateral cephalogram distortion.

  • In this study, two years Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data observed near the coast and islands are used to evaluate gust factors only when time averaged wind speed is higher than 5 ms. The gust factors are quite different in spatial and temporal domain according to analysis method. As the averaged time is increased, the gust factors are also increased. But the gust factors are decreased when wind speed is increased. It is because each wind speed is averaged one and a maximum wind is the greatest one for each time interval. The result from t-test is shown that all data are included within the 99% significance level. A sample standard deviation of ten minutes and one minute are 0.137~0.197, 0.067~0.142, respectively. Recently, the gust factor provided at the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Homepage is calculated with one-hour averaged method. All though this method is hard to use directly for forecasting the strong wind over sea and coast, the result will be a great help to express Ocean Storm Flash in the Regional Meteorological Offices and the Meteorological Stations.

  • This study investigated the experience of physical violence among adolescents and the domestic variables explaining sibling violence. Data were collected from 501 adolescents in 2007 and analyzed using SPSS 16.0. The statistics used for analysis were the T-Test, two-way ANOVA, and regression. Findings indicated that 45% of the sample population had experienced sibling violence and the most common acts were "hit with hand or objects". The violence of parents toward their children, gender, and the frequency of conflict between siblings were associated with sibling violence. From these results, the study proposed that education about sibling violence should be included in social work programs.
