  • Purpose: This study deals with a production planning and scheduling problem to minimize the total weighted tardiness on hybrid flow shop with sets of non-identical parallel machines on stages, where parallel machines in the set are dedicated to perform specific subsets of jobs and sequence-dependent setup times are also considered. Methods: A two-stage approach, that applies MILP model in the 1st stage and dispatching rules in the 2nd stage, is proposed in this paper. The MILP model is used to assign jobs to a specific machine in order to equalize the workload of the machines at each stage, while new dispatching rules are proposed and applied to sequence jobs in the queue at each stage. Results: The proposed two-stage approach was implemented by using a commercial MILP solver and a commercial simulation software and a case study was developed based on the spark plug manufacturing process, which is an automotive component, and verified using the company's actual production history. The computational experiment shows that it can reduce the tardiness when used in conjunction with the dispatching rule. Conclusion: This proposed two-stage approach can be used for HFS systems with dedicated machines, which can be evaluated in terms of tardiness and makespan. The method is expected to be used for the aggregated production planning or shop floor-level production scheduling.

  • This paper presents the influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness and aspect ratio on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite sandwich annular sector plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTR) sandwich plate has smooth variation of CNT fraction along the thickness direction. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. Effects of CNT distribution, volume fraction, aspect ratio and waviness, and also effects of Pasternak's elastic foundation coefficients, sandwich plate thickness, face sheets thickness and plate aspect ratio are investigated on the free vibration of the sandwich plates with wavy CNT-reinforced face sheets. The study is carried out based on three-dimensional theory of elasticity and in contrary to two-dimensional theories, such as classical, the first- and the higher-order shear deformation plate theories, this approach does not neglect transverse normal deformations. The sandwich annular sector plate is assumed to be simply supported in the radial edges while any arbitrary boundary conditions are applied to the other two circular edges including simply supported, clamped and free.

  • This research is intended to integrate long-term operation rules and real time operation policy for conservation & flood control in a reservoir. The familiar Yield model has been modified and used to provide long-term rule curves. The model employs linear programming technique under given physical conditions, i.e., total capacity, dead storage, spillways, outlet capacity and their respective elevations to find required and desired minimum storage fur different demands. To investigate the system behavior resulting from the above-mentioned operating policy, i.e., the rule curves, the simulation model was used. Results of the simulation model show that the results of the optimization model are indeed valid. After confirmation of the above mentioned rule curves by the simulation models, gate operation procedure was merged with the long term operation rules to determine the optimum reservoir operating policy. In the gate operation procedure, operating policy in downstream flood plain, i.e., determination of damaging and non-damaging discharges in flood plain, peak floods, which could be routed by reservoir, are determined. Also outflow hydrograph and variations of water surface levels for two known hydrographs are determined. To examine efficiency of the above-mentioned models and their ability in determining the optimum operation policy, Esteghlal reservoir in Iran was analyzed as a case study. A numerical model fur the solution of two-dimensional dam break problems using fractional step method is developed on unstructured grid. The model is based on second-order Weighted Averaged Flux(WAF) scheme with HLLC approximate Riemann solver. To control the nonphysical oscillations associated with second-order accuracy, TVD scheme with SUPERBEE limiter is used. The developed model is verified by comparing the computational solutions with analytic solutions in idealized test cases. Very good agreements have been achieved in the verifications.

  • I report a simple method to correct the saturation effect in absorption spectra measured in total electron yield (TEY) mode. It does not require additional measurements of the X-ray penetration depth. In order to check the reliability of the method, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectra for polycrystalline Fe were measured at two different incident angles, and then processed with the method. The two resultant XMCD spectra were identical, and their sum rule analysis produced the ratios of orbital magnetic moment to spin magnetic moment, which were very close to the well-known value.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the flow resistance of the bottom pair trawl nets. The bottom pair trawl nets being used in fishing vessel (100G/T, 550ps) was selected as a full-scale net, and 1/10, 1/25 and 1/50 of the model nets were made. Converted into the full-scale net by Tauti's modeling rule and Kim's modeling rule, when resistance coefficient k of each net was calculated by substituting into above equation for flow resistance R and wall area of nets S values of each net ${\upsilon}$. Because resistant coefficient k decreases exponentially according as flow velocity ${\upsilon}$ increases to make $k=c{\upsilon}^{-m}$, c and m values of each net were compared. As a result, as the model was smaller, c and m values was smaller in the two rule into standard of 1/10 model value, decrease degree of 1/25 model was almost same in the two rule, decrease degree of 1/50 model was very big in Tauti's modeling rule. Therefore, in the result of experiment, because average of c and m values for similarly 1/10 and 1/25 model were given $c=4.9(kgf{\cdot}s^2/m^4)$ and m=0.45, R (kgf) of bottom pair trawl net could show $R=4.9S{\upsilon}^{1.55}$ using these values. As in the order of cod-end, wing and bag part for 1/25 and 1/50 model net were removed in turn, measured flow resistance of each, converted into the full-scale, total resistance of the net and the resistance of each part net were calculated. The resistance ratio of each part for total net was not same in 1/25 and 1/50 model each other, but average of two nets was perfectly same area ratio of each part as the wing, bag and cod-end part was 43%, 45% and 12%. However, the resistance of each part divided area of the part, calculated the resistance of per unit area, wing and bag part were not big difference each other, while the resistance of cod-end part was very large.

  • Two key challenges in statistical relational learning are uncertainty and complexity. Standard frameworks for handling uncertainty are probability and first-order logic respectively. A Markov logic network (MLN) is a first-order knowledge base with weights attached to each formula and is suitable for classification of dataset which have variables correlated with each other. But we need domain knowledge to construct first-order logics and a computational complexity problem arises when calculating weights of first-order logics. To overcome these problems we suggest a method to generate first-order logics and learn weights using association analysis in this study.

  • Association rule mining is a method of showing the relationship between patterns hidden in several tables. These days, granulation logic is used to add more detailed meaning to association rule mining. In addition, unlike the existing system that recommends using existing data, the granulation related rules can also recommend new subscribers or new products. Therefore, determining the qualitative size of the granulation of the association rule determines the performance of the recommendation system. In this paper, we propose a granulation method for subscribers and movie data using fuzzy logic and Shannon entropy concepts in order to understand the relationship to the movie evaluated by the viewers. The research is composed of two stages: 1) Identifying the size of granulation of data, which plays a decisive role in the implications of the association rules between viewers and movies; 2) Mining the association rules between viewers and movies using these granulations. We preprocessed Netflix's MovieLens data. The results of meanings of association rules and accuracy of recommendation are suggested with managerial implications in conclusion section.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a pre-hospital subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) prediction tool by analyzing the extant predictive factors of patients with non-traumatic SAH who visited the hospital through the 119 emergency medical services. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed pre-hospital care reports (PCRs) and electronic medical records (EMRs) of 103 patients with non-traumatic SAH who were transported to the emergency department of two national hospitals via the 119 emergency medical service from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2020. Variables required to apply the Ottawa SAH Rule and EMERALD SAH Rule, which are early prediction tools for SAH, were extracted and applied. Results: The most common symptoms-which were found in 94.1% and 97.0% of all patients according to PCRs and EMRs, respectively-appeared in the following order: headache, altered state of consciousness, and nausea/vomiting. When the variables used for the EMERALD Rule, namely systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and blood sugar test (BST), were applied, the sensitivities of EMR and PCRs were 99.9% and 92.2%, respectively. Conclusion: For the timely prediction of SAH at the pre-hospital phase, patient age and symptoms should be assessed, and SBP, DBP, and BST should be measured to transport the patient to an appropriate hospital.

  • An useful and effective design method for the gas identification system is presented in this paper. The proposed gas identification system adopts hierarchical structure with two level rule base combining fuzzy sets with rough sets. At first, a hybrid genetic algorithm is used in grouping the array sensors of which the measured patterns are similar in order to reduce the dimensionality of patterns to be analyzed and to make rule construction easy and simple. Next, for low level identification, fuzzy inference systems for each divided group are designed by using TSK fuzzy rule, which allow handling the drift and the uncertainty of sensor data effectively. Finally, rough set theory is applied to derive the identification rules at high level which reflect the identification characteristics of each divided group. Thus, the proposed method is able to accomplish effectively dimensionality reduction as well as accurate gas identification. In simulation, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methods by identifying five types of gases.

  • As a result of increase of high-rise building and complex building in cities, fire damage become larger and complicated. However, law and standards in connection with life safety in the fire is deficient in safety performance and the institution of fire is divided into two parts : the building law and the fire law. The aim of this research is to compare with egress safety rule in advanced countries and to analyze the national standard of egress safety by investigating research data in order to make fire safety rule more effective. On the basis of this analysis, this research also suggested that reform measures should make egress safety in the fire.
