  • The incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations are solved using the standard $\textsc{k}-\varepsilon$ turbulence model and a finite volume method(FVM)with an O-type grid system. The computed results for its performance test are in good agreement with the published experimental data. The present method is applied to the study on the leading edge radius of a hydrofoil section Calculated results suggest that the leading edge radius has some effects on cavitation performances of a 2-D foil. A natural leading edge radius for the NACA66 section is determined from this study.

  • The purpose of this article is to highlight the relationships among market orientation, environmental turbulence, marketing capabilities, and organizational performance in railway industry(616 participants). Major findings are: 1) market orientation showed a significant effect on marketing capabilities, and organizational performance, 2) environmental turbulence functioned as a moderator not to organizational performance, but to marketing capabilities, 3) and marketing capabilities showed a strong effect on organizational performance. These findings imply that market orientation, as well as marketing capabilities, are so essential for creating a supreme performance in the railway industry.

  • In the present work, a parametric study on double-jet film-cooling has been carried out to enhance the film-cooling effectiveness using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis. The shear stress transport turbulence model is used as the turbulence closure. The lateral ejection angles and the lateral and streamwise distance between the centers of the cooling holes are chosen as the geometric parameters. The spatially averaged film-cooling effectiveness averaged over an area of 8 hole diameters in width and 30 hole diameters in streamwise length is used to evaluate the performance of film-cooling. The parameter of the lateral distance has the largest impact on the film cooling effectiveness compared to the others. On the other hand, the parameter of streamwise distance gives the least influence on the film cooling effectiveness.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate the aerodynamic derivatives of a single turbo-prop aircraft at a specified flight condition for the best deduction of the dynamic characteristics using modified maximum likelihood estimation method whcih is known to be unbiased, efficient, and consistent. The flight test data necessary to the estimation of aerodynamic derivatives is obtained by implementing the six degree of freedom nonlinear flight simulation to consider the effects of several control input types, control deflection amplitudes, and intensity of turbulence. The simulated data is added with the measurement noise, which is regarded as the actual flight test data.

  • Free surface impinging jet on a moving plate, which is applicable to cooling of hot metals in a steel-making process, is investigated numerically by solving the Navier-Stokes equations in the liquid and gas phases. The free surface of liquid-gas interface is tracked by a level-set method which is improved by incorporating the ghost fluid approach based on a sharp-interface representation. The method is further improved by employing a nonequilibrium $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model including the effect of low Reynolds number. The computations are made to investigate the effects of the nozzle pitch, moving velocity of plate and jet velocity on the interfacial motion and the associated flow and temperature fields.

  • The transient response of an airfoil to a rapidly deploying spoiler is numerically investigated using the turbulent compressible Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions. Algebraic Baldwin-Lomax model, Wilcox $\kappa-\omega$ model, and SST $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model are used to calculate the unsteady separated flow due to the rapid spoiler deployment. The spoiler motion relative to a stationary airfoil is treated by an overset grid hounded by a Dynamic Domain-Dividing Line which has been devised by the authors. The adverse effects of the spoiler influenced by the spoiler location and the hinge gap are expounded. The numerical results are in reasonably good agreement with the existing experimental data.

  • Three-dimensional endwall flow within a linear cascade passage of high performance turbine blade is simulated with a 3-D Navier-Stokes CFD code (MOSA3D), which is based on body-fitted coordinate system, pressure-correction and finite volume method. The endwall flow characteristics, including the development and generation of horseshoe vortex, passage vortex, etc. are clearly simulated, consistent with the generally known tendency. The effects of both turbulence model and convective differencing scheme on the prediction performance of endwall flow are systematically analyzed in the present paper. The convective scheme is found to have stronger effect than the turbulence model on the prediction performance of endwall flow. The present simulation result also indicates that the suction leg of the horseshoe vortex continues on the suction side until it reaches the trailing edge.

  • Mean flow and turbulence properties of developing turbulent flows in a 90 degree square bend with spanwise rotation were measured by a hot-wire anemometer. A slanted wire is rotated into 6 orientations and the voltage outputs from them are combined to obtain the mean velocity and Reynolds stress components. The combinative effects of the centrifugal and Coriolis forces due to the curvature and the rotation of bend on the mean motion and turbulence structures are investigated experimentally. Results show that the two body forces can either enhance or counteract each other depending on the flow direction in the bend.

  • Chemical application, one of the most important crop management processes happened to cause spray drift, that would threaten farmers in field as well as dwellers in rural region. Spray drift was affected by micro-meteorological parameters. In Korea, a boom sprayer was introduced but good effects of a boom sprayer was not evaluated. A study to evaluate short distance drift characteristics of a boom sprayer in paddy fields has been undergoing and determining wind characteristics in paddy field was the main purpose of this paper. Micro-meteorological information has been pre-requisite information for evaluating drift in both long and short distances or in both theoretical and experimental ways. Wind velocity, Reynolds stresses, turbulence intensity, skewness, kurtosis etc. were evaluated with height from the ground using a 2-dimensional probe and a hot wire anemometer system.

  • A numerical study was made to choose the better turbulence model for the flow in the discharge flow path from a diffuser to a wall. In this study standard $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(SKE), RNG $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(RNG), and Reynolds stress model(RSM) were applied. In case of the flow with relatively high Reynolds number at a diffuser inlet, the pressure loss coefficients by RNG have a tendency to be near to those by SKE at small ratio(below about 0.35) of $h/D_o$, but to those by RSM at large ratio(above about 0.35). At large ratio RNG begins to enlarge the effects of rapid strain and streamline curvature. RNG & RSM are recommended as the appropriate turbulence models for this case. But it is noticeable that the velocity gradient pattern in RNG is same as in SKE, and also that the total pressure distribution in RNG is same as in RSM only at swirling flow area, same as in SKE only at main flow area.
