Hybrid power generation systems combining a solid oxide fuel cell and a gas turbine is promising due to their high efficiency. In the pressurized hybrid system, the operating condition of the gas turbine may play a critical role in designing the hybrid system. In particular, prevention of surge of the compressor can be a critical issue. The existence of fuel cell between the compressor and the turbine may cause an additional pressure loss and thus compressor operating points tend to approach the surge if the original turbine inlet temperature is pursued. In this study, bypassing some of the turbine inlet gas directly to the turbine exit side is simulated. Its effects on suppressing the surge problem and change in performance characteristics are discussed.
Recently, small hydropower attracts attention because of its renewable, clean and abundant energy resources to develop. Therefore, a tubular type hydro turbine is proposed for small hydropower in this study because the turbine has relatively simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance characteristics of the turbine by field test. Field test iss conducted using one tubular turbine system as well as serial arrangement system by two tubular turbines taking into consideration of actual operation conditions. The results show that efficiency of test turbine changes considerably by the runner vane angle. Best efficiency of one turbine arrangement is higher than that of two turbine serial arrangement.

This paper aims to compare the use of Centrifugal Turbine and Tesla Turbine in an application of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Machine using Isopentane as working fluid expanding. The working fluid has boiling point below boiling water and works in low-temperature sources between $80-120^{\circ}C$ which can be produced from waste heat, solar-thermal energy and geothermal energy etc. The experiment on ORC machine reveals that the suitability of high pressure pump for working fluid has result on the efficiency of work. In addition, Thermodynamics theory on P-h diagram also presented the effect of heat sources' temperature and flow rate on any work. Thus, the study and design on ORC machine has to concern mainly on pressure pump, flow rate and optimized temperature. Result experiment and calculate ORC Machine using centrifugal Turbine efficiency better than Tesla turbine 30% but Tesla Turbine is cheaper and easily structure. Further study on the machine can be developed throughout the county due to its low cost and efficiency.
The steam turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant. Accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is essential. However, it is not easy to evaluate the steam turbine performance due to its high temperature and high pressure circumstance. Therefore most steam turbine performance tests were conducted by air similarity test. This paper described a test program for air similarity test of steam turbine at Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A test facility has been designed and built to evaluate aerodynamic performance of turbines. The test facility consists of air supply system, single stage test section, power absorption system, instrumentation and auxiliary system. For evaluation of steam turbine performance, the test of single stage axial turbine air similarity performance was conducted and uncertainty analysis was performed.
This paper presents a ride-through skill of PMSG wind turbine system under the distorted and unbalanced grid voltage dips. When voltage dips occur in the grid, pitch control and generator speed control as well as a parallel resistor of DC-link help to keep the turbine's safety. Modern grid code requires a wind turbine to supply reactive currents to help voltage recovery after grid faults clearance. In order to supply reactive currents to the grid in case of the distortedly unbalanced grid voltage dips, a special PLL is needed to control the grid side converter and to regulate the grid voltages symmetrically. The proposed method is applied to 2MW multi-pole PMSG wind turbine system, and verified by simulation.

The tank uses a twin turbo diesel engine equipped with two turbocharger systems for high output. The main component of the turbocharger system is the turbine housing through which the exhaust flows. Turbine housing is manufactured through a sand casting process, taking into account the shape and material characteristics according to the environmental conditions in which it is used. Currently, turbine housing is imported, and local production is necessary. In this study, basic research was conducted to localize the turbine housing of a tank diesel turbo engine. Reverse engineering and finite element analysis of the imported turbine housing were performed. The prototype of the turbine housing was printed using FDM and PBF 3D printers. The prototype of the turbine housing printed with an FDM 3D printer has an overall appearance similar to 3D modeling, but the printed surface of the whorl part is rough. The prototype printed with the PBF 3D printer is completely identical to the 3D modeling, including the whorl part.
A wind turbine is one of the most popular energy conversion systems to generate electricity from the natural renewable energy source and an axial-flow type wind turbine is the most popular system for the electricity generation in the wind farm nowadays. In this study, a cross-flow type turbine has been studied for the application of wind turbine for electricity generation. The target capacity of electric power generation of the model wind turbine developing on the project is 12 volts, 130A/H (about 1.56kW). The important design parameters of the model turbine impeller are the inlet and exit angle of the turbine blade, number of blade, hub/tip ratio and the exit flow angle of the casing. In this study, the radial equilibrium theorem was used to decide the inlet and exit angle of the impller blade and CFD technique was used to have the performance analysis of the designed model power turbine to find out the optimum geometry of the CPT impeller and casing. The designed CPT with 24 impeller blades at ${\alpha}=82^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=40^{\circ}$ of turbine blade angle was estimated to generate 284.6 N.m of indicated torque and 2.14kW of indicated power.
The cross flow turbine attracts more and more attention for its relatively wide operating range and simple structure. In this study, a novel type of micro cross flow turbine is developed for application to a step in an irrigational channel. The head of the turbine is only H=4.3m and the turbine inlet channel is open ducted type, which has barely been studied. The efficiency of the turbine with inlet open duct channel is relatively low. Therefore, a guide nozzle on the turbine inlet is attached to improve the performance of the turbine. The guide nozzle shapes are investigated to find the best shape for the turbine. The guide nozzle plays an important role on directing flow at the runner entry, and it also decreases the negative torque loss by reducing the pressure difference in Region 1. There is 12.5% of efficiency improvement by attaching a well shaped guide nozzle on the turbine inlet.

When simulating the dynamic behaviour of a hydro power plant, it is essential to have a good representation of the turbine behaviour. The pressure transients in the system occurs because the flow changes, which the turbine defines. The flow through the turbine is a function of the pressure, the speed of rotation and the wicket gate opening and is, most often described in a performance diagram or Hill diagram. In the Hill diagram, the efficiency is drawn like contour lines, hence the name. A turbines Hill diagram is obtained by performance tests on scaled model in a laboratory. However, system dynamic simulations have to be performed in the early stage of a project, before the turbine manufacturer has been chosen and the Hill diagram is known. Therefore one have to rely on diagrams for a turbine with similar speed number. The Hill diagram is drawn through measured points, so for using the diagram in a simulation program, one have to iterate in the diagram based on curve fitting of the measured points. This paper describes an alternative method. By means of the Euler turbine equation, it is possible to set up two differential equations which represents the turbine performance with good enough accuracy for the dynamic simulations. The only input is the turbine's main geometry, the runner blade in- and outlet angle and the guide vane angle at best efficiency point of operation (BEP). In the paper, simulated turbine characteristics for a high head Francis turbine, and for a reversible pump turbine are compared with laboratory measured characteristics.

Combined heat and power (CHP) system is one of the power generation system which can generate both electricity and heat. Generally, mid-size and big-size CHP plant in Korea generate electricity from gas turbine and steam turbine, then supply heat from exhaust gas. Actually, CHP can supply heat using district heater which is located at low pressure turbine exit or inlet. When the district heater locates after low pressure turbine, which called back pressure type turbine, there need neither condenser nor mode change operating control logic. When the district heater locates in front of low pressure turbine or uses low pressure turbine extraction steam flow, which calls condensing type turbine, which kind of turbine requires condenser. In this case, mode change operation methods are used for generating maximum electricity or maximum heat according to demanding the seasonal electricity and heat.
