  • Recently, the Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) construction method is used gradually to increase at the Tunnel Constructin site. However the design and application of the Shield TBM were carried out without sufficient investigation of the ground conditions in the construction site. Due to insufficient understanding to the corresponding equipment is frequently occurring unexpected construction cost and extension of a construction period. The most suitable alternative construction method was determined by analyzing tunneling rate, duration, construction cost of shield machine and tunneling data of alternative method. The result of the case study is suggested as follows. First, the accurate soil exploration on the construction site should be preceded to prevent from tunneling stoppage and schedule delay. Second, the most suitable selection of the shield machine to the ground conditions of the construction site should be executed based on the investigation. Third, the best alternative method for boring of hard rock section is 'hard rock blasting after open cut and cover method'.

  • During construction of a tunnel and underground structure, it is very important to acquire accurate information of the rock mass will be excavated. In this study, the drill monitoring method was applied for rapid prediction of geological condition ahead of the tunnel face. Mechanical data(speed, torque and feed pressure) from drilling process using a hydraulic drilling machine were analyzed to assess rock mass characteristics. Rock mass information acquired during excavation from drilling monitoring were compared with results from horizontal boring and tunnel seismic profiling(TSP). As the result, the drilling monitoring method is useful to assess rock mass condition such as geological structures and physical properties ahead of the tunnel face.

  • The interest in the use of shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) on the tunnel excavation has been increased rapidly in Korea. The shield TBM tunnel is generally designed as non-drainage tunnel. Consequently, if water leakage through the segment joints happens, big problems on the usage and stability of tunnel can be occurred. In this study, the variation of waterproof capacity of hydrophilic waterstop by the construction error and excessive displacement of segment was studied firstly. Secondly, the decrease of durability of hydrophilic waterstop by the sulphate and chloride contained in the groundwater and seawater was investigated. The results showed that if the angle discordance at the segment joints is beyond the 2 degree, the proper waterproof capacity of hydrophilic waterstop can not be guaranteed. In addition, if the hydrophilic rubber waterstop is exposed to the sulphate for a while, the proper durability of hydrophilic waterstop can not be expected.

In particular, the waterproof capacity of each of single and double layer arrangements of hydrophilic rubber waterstop was examined to verify the efficiency of the double layer arrangement. The test results show that the single layer and double layer hydrophilic rubber waterstop showed the same waterproof performance. hydrophilic rubber waterstop has favorable on the offset, however unfavorable on the gap.

  • The application of TBM tunneling has been progressively increased since the first entrance into Korea in 1985. In order to an apprehension and operation development of TBM method which has excellent boring in hard rock tunnel, this study has analyzed mutual relation of lose time and TBM boring from actual construction result TBM tunneling. This study compared an analyzed result with TBM tunnelling construction results of Korea, America, Japan, analyzed a primary factor of TBM boring effect and suggested operation development method from the analyzed results. accordingly this study can be used an index when similar construction apply TBM method to planning steps.

  • We analyzed case studies doing in-depth inspection of tunnel to maintain safety of existing tunnel in constructing new tunnel near to a existing tunnel with single track. Futhermore, We accomplished in-depth inspection of existing tunnel and numerical analysis. We suggested remedies to security safety of existing tunnel. We applied line drilling and pre-large hole boring method not to have an effect on existing tunnel and convinced the safety of existing tunnel from blast-vibration and blast-noise of numerical analysis. We planed to install basset system to measure displacement of existing tunnel according to excavating new tunnel.

  • Recently, TBM (Tunnel Boring Machince) method for a tunnel construction in domestic is very promisible due to shorten a constrution period. It is very important to increase the efficiency of the shotcrete for the TBM. The major factors influencing the efficienty of shotcrete are materials, mix disign, constrution conditions and skill of nozzle-man. In this paper, first, optimum synthesize conditions for the shotcrete accelerators was explored and early stiffenting mechanisms also studied. Second, TBM method was applied for a real job site using the optimum conditions obtained from a lab scale experiment.

  • The SHOT PATCH System Remitar is a mortar shotcreting system which used fairly small machine and equipment, and is applied for shortcrete tunnel linings, in particular for small bore tunnels of aqueducts by the TBM(Tunnel Boring Machine) method, and for repairing tunnels suffering from spring water and deterioration. This study shows the characteristics of the new mortar shotcreting system, the SHOT PATCH System Remitar, which exhibits excellent shotcrete performance.

  • In this paper a determination of the optimal segment sealing material for a tunnel under the Han river between the Sungsoo-dong, Sungdong-Gu and the Chungdaw-dong, Kangnam-Gu in the Bundang railway. The geological investigation results show that some fractured zones exist loca]]y under the northern boundary of the Han river bed, but the other regions consist mostly of hard rocks of good Quality in the tunnel excavation level. Also, a hign water pressure of $5kgf/cm^2$ and a flash inflow of river water due to old boring holes are expected during tunnel excavation. A combined type sealing material of EPDM gasket with expansional rubber is selected as a optimal segment sealing material for the Han river tunnel considering the geological and site conditions.
