Pharmacological characteristics of higenamine on adrenergic β-receptors (아드레날린성 β-수용체에 대한 higemamine의 약리학적 특성)

  • Higenamine is an Aconiti tuber derived compound whose chemical structure is 1-(4'-hydroxybenzyl)-6, 7-dihydroxy-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline containing catechol ring and tetrahydroisoquinoline nucleus in its own structure, both of which are well known to have agonistic effects on adrenergic receptors. Using guinea-pig atria(rich in ${\beta}_1$-receptor) and treachea(rich in ${\beta}_2$-receptor), we studied pharmacological actions of higenamine on these organs with special interest of its relevancy of ${\beta}$-receptor selectivity. In order to further clarify its pharmacological characteristics, the influncences of pretreatment of reserpine or cocaine were also investigated. The results were summarized as follows : 1. Higenamine had remarkable chronotropic, inotropic and bronchodilator effects in guinea-pig spontaneously beating right atria, left atria and trachea, in dose-dependent manners. 2. All of above actions were blocked competitively by propranolol, which shows nonselectivity of higenamine on ${\beta}$-receptor. $pA_2$ values of propranolol against higenamine were 7.93, 7.76 and 8.46 in guinea-pig right atria, left atria and treachea, respectively. 3. Reserpine pretreatment(5mg/kg, ip, 24h) did not show my decrease in pharmacological actions of higenamine, which suggests higenamine has direct action on ${\beta}$-receptor not via catecholamine release. 4. Cocaine pretreatment$(1{\mu}M)$ had no influence on pharmacological actions of higenamine in contrast with nor epinephrine, which suggests there is no neuronal uptake mechanism of higenamine in the studied organ preparations.

The characteristics of the Medicinal in the Decoctions of 《Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases》 whose dosages were expressed in volume and the value obtained by converting the dosages into weight (《상한론》 탕제에서 복용량을 부피로 표기한 약의 특징과 무게로 환산한 값)

  • Objectives : It is very important to know the exact dosage of the Decoctions in 《Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases》. This study identified the characteristics of 15 Medicinal marked in volume and calculated their dosages in weight. Methods : The origin, processing methods, and properties of 15 Medicinal were identified. The shape of the appropriate container that measures the volume of one seung was estimated, and the dosage in volume was converted into weight. These were compared with the dosages indicated by weight or count. Results : The 15 Medicinal were categorized into liquids, powders, and grains. Ten items had only one dosage, of which three items had one seung, and seven items had 0.5 seung. Five items had two different dosages, of which four items had one or 0.5 seung, and only Suis Fel was 0.2 or 0.1 seung. Pinelliae Tuber and Urine were marked as 0.5 seung for convenience of measurement, although 0.4 seung were accurate. There were 20 different dosages in total, and when converted into weight, they matched 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, or 16 Ryang, with none of 5 Ryang. Some exceptions that did not fit in the above were indicated by weight or count. Conclusions : In the Decoctions of 《Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases》, dosages of 15 Medicinal were easy to measure by volume, and when converted into weight, they were consistent with the dosages originally indicated in weight or count.

The Immersion Factors and Characteristics of Youtube Channels for Generation Z (Z세대가 즐기는 유튜브 채널의 몰입 요인과 특징)

  • Generation Z(Gen Z), which is referred to people in their late teens to early 20s, becomes one of new major consumer groups in the society. More than 80 percent Gen Z use YouTube content as a main information channel. In this study, we investigate what kind of factors make Gen Z immersed when watching YouTube content. In the background study, we examined immersion and set the cognitive conditions of immersion as reality, fascination, control, and driving as a framework for analysis of case study. In the case study, we analyzed the most popular YouTube channels of each category among the Gen Z with the established framework and then identified 3 main factors: reality, 5 senses, and unpretentiousness and 8 characteristics of them. By conducting survey with Gen Z, we wanted to verify the validity of the characteristics and find out the difference among categories. Subjects answered on a five-point scale how the characteristics of each immersion factor corresponded to their favorite channels. As a result, seven characteristics: 1) familiarity of background, 2) reality of acting, 3)familiarity of material, 4)YouTubers' appearance and 5) voice, 6)multi-sensory, and 7)YouTuber's ability to resemble viewers influenced more than 50% of users' immersion. Although there was no significant difference among categories, the familiarity of the material and the five senses stimulus (YouTube's appearance, voice, audiovisual and surrogate taste) were the most important factors in the entertainment category.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Ginseng JungKwa Produced with Hot-Water Extract from Maegmundong (Liriope platyphylla tubers) (맥문동 열수추출액을 이용한 인삼정과의 품질 특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of ginseng JungKwa produced with hot-water extract from Maegmundong (MGJ) instead of sugar. Chemical characteristics of MGJ and control ginseng JungKwa produced by sucrose (CGJ) were measured by proximate constituents, free sugars, ginsenosides, total phenolic compound, flavonoid content, and antioxidative activity was measured by electron donating abilities and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity. Carbohydrate, crude protein, crude ash contents of MGJ were 76.40, 1.46 and 3.49%, where as those of CGJ were 80.01, 0.59 and 0.96%. Free sugar compositions of MGJ were fructose (32.42%), oligosaccharide (16.91%), disaccharide (13.91%) and glucose (13.16%). Eleven ginsenosides types were detected on MGJ and 9 kinds on CGJ; their contents were 740.1 and 675.6 mg%, respectively. Total phenolic compound and flavonoid content were 5.46 and 0.016% on MGJ, 5.02 and 0.014% on CGJ, respectively. In physiological characteristics, the $IC_{50}$ of electron donating ability by DPPH on MGJ was about 34.5 mg/mL and ability was slightly higher than CGJ, although there's not much difference in ability between MGJ and CGJ. Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activities were 92% on MGJ and 96% on CJG when treated at $50{\mu}g$/mL.

  • To gain a better understanding of the germination and growth of Scirpus maritimus, pot and field experiments were conducted to observe the development of new rhizomes and tubers, the growth rate of culms. and the germination behaviour of tubers of this perennial weed. Tuber placement, water depth, salinity and pH were also observed for their possible influence on the growth of S. maritimus.

  • Stem rot of Houttuynia cordata occurred in the experiment field of Research Institute of Natural Product, Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, Korea in July 2003. The typical symptoms of the disease were water-soaking, stem rot, necrotic tuber. White mycelial mats were spread over lesions and sclerotia were formed on died plant and near soil line. The sclerotia were spherical and irregular, 1-2.5 mm on potato dextrose agar (PDA), white to brown in color, The optimal temperature for hyphal growth was $28{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and the hyphal diameter was $3{\sim}9{\mu}m$. Clamp connections were observed on PDA. Pathogenicity of the casual organism was provided on H. cordata according to Koch's postulate. The fungus was identified as Sclerotium rolfsii Saccardo on the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenicity test to host plants. This is the first report on the stem rot of H. cordata caused by S. rolfsii in Korea.

Personal Media as Cultural Intermediaries, YouTube Channel (디지털 문화매개자로서 1인 미디어, 유튜브 채널 <영국남자>)

  • This study is to ascertain the meaning of personal media as cultural intermediaries in the cultural diffusion, acceptance, and intermediation for the production and consumption of cultural contents. We examined the case of personal media, , which is one of popular YouTube channel in Korea and analyzed fifty most viewed videos in last two years based on four perspectives of digital cultural intermediaries: forms, expression methods, linguistic features, and evaluations. As expected, results demonstrate that shows characteristics of digital intermediary: diverse subjects without fixed rules, a variety of multimedia effects, colloquial style including neologism and multilingual, and users' high preferences caused by creator's sincerity. Our findings and limitations can serve directions of further empirical researches.

Ethanol Fermentation Characteristics of K. marxianus on Jerusalem Artichoke tuber Extract (효모 K. marxianus에 의한 돼지감자 착즙에 대한 에탄올 발효 특성)

  • The investigations of specific growth rate, specific alcohol production rate, cell yield, alcohol yield of K. marxianus LG were performed according to the sugar concentrations, 50, 80, 110, 190, and 250g/l of extracted solution of Jerusalem Artichoke. The functipnal relationship between specific growth rate, specific alcohol production rate, and alcohol concentrations were devoted study to. In case of low concentration of alcohol, the fuctions were linear relationships. But in the region of high concentration of alcohol, they expressed the exponential relationships. The growth rate of K. marxianus was prohibited at higher than 50g/l of alcohol concentrations regardless of concentration of residual sugar. Cell and alcohol yield showed the maximum values around 25g/l of alcohol concentraton without being related to initial sugar concentrations.

A Recent Review of Herbal Medicine Treatment for Xerostomia in Chinese Medical Literature (구강건조증의 한약 치료에 대한 최신 중의학 문헌고찰)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate recent trends in herbal medicine treatment for xerostomia. Methods : We searched for Randomized Controlled Trial(RCT) studies on xerostomia published after 2015 in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI). Studies were analyzed based on the year of publication, characteristics of patient groups, herbal medicine treatments and assessment scales. Results : A total of 16 RCT studies were selected. The most frequently used herbal prescription was Zengye Decoction(增液湯). Liriope Tuber(麥門冬), Rehmanniae Radix(生地黃), Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Schisandrae Fructus(五味子), Scrophulariae Radix(玄蔘), Dendrobii Herba(石斛) and Gypsum Fibrosum(石膏) were commonly used herbs. Herbal medicine treatment demonstrated effectiveness in treating xerostomia across all the studies, and this effect was statistically significant. Conclusions : Herbal medicine treatment is effective in treating xerostomia. We anticipate that more high quality studies will be conducted in the future.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Liriope platyphylla Tubers by Drying Process (건조처리에 따른 맥문동의 품질학적 특성)

  • To investigate physiochemical characteristics of Liriope platyphylla tubers by various drying process, proximate constitute, levels of free sugar, organic acid, free amino acid, crude saponin and spicatoside A were analyzed. Drying methods included hot-air drying (DLR, $60^{\circ}C$, 48 hr) and roasting after hot-air drying (RDLR, roasting at $180^{\circ}C$ for 15 min). The moisture, crude protein, crude lipid, ash and NFE (nitrogen free extract) contents of FLR (fresh Liriope platyphylla tuber) were 69.99%, 1.85%, 0.02%, 0.79%, and 27.35%, respectively. The most abundant proximate component of DLR and RDLR was NFE, of which the contents in both sample were 80.09% and 86.07%, respectively. The major free sugars in DLR and RDLR was oligosaccharide II as 56$\sim$57% and the major organic acid was malic acid as 3.06$\sim$3.34%, respectively. In free amino acid, the major amino acid of FLR, DLR and RDLR was serine with contents of 477.41 mg%, 1394.88 mg%, and 180.33 mg%, respectively. The level of serine was significantly decreased by roasting process. The level of crude saponin in FLR, DLR and RDLR were 3.52%, 8.41%, and 10.15%, respectively.
