Production of Fungal Lipid (Part III) The Composition of the Lipid Produced by Mucor plumbeus (곰팡이 유지 생산에 관한 연구 (제 3 보) Mucor plumbeus 균체지방질 구성에 대하여)

  • Mucor plumbeus FRI 0007 was grown on media containing starch solely as carbon source, urea as nitrogen source and minerals including magnesium, calcium and iron of different concentration. The ratio of nonpolar and polar lipid of the total lipid produced by the Muror plumbeus FRI 0007 changed by minerals added in the medium and incubation period. The nonpolar lipid content was higher on the medium containing only one mineral rather than 5 minerals and the nonpolar lipid consisted mainly of trig1yceride, free fatty acid and free sterol. The triglyceride content was higher on the medium containing one mineral and decreased with the incubation time lapse. The major fatty acid composition of total, nonpolar and polar lipid were oleic, palmitic and linoleic acid which comprised about 90% of total fatty acids and their compositions changed slightly depending on the minerals added in the medium.

  • In this study rats in fasting or fed protein free restricted diet including only fat showed much lowered level of serum cholesterol and triglyceride accompanied by utmost weight loss and high level of blood urea nitrogen indicated the tissue degradation, especially in liver with signs of damage or necrosis of hepatic parenchymal cell leading to elevated glutamic pyruvate transaminase value and to death. Rats fed only perilla oil in starvation or as fat source in normal diet dropped down the level of serum cholesterol and triglyceride compared to beef tallow fed rat. But with evidence of glutamic pyruvate transaminase values which was significantly elevated long term ingestion of perilla oil is likely to cause the lesion or any damage of hepatic function.

Effects of Dietary Restriction on the Serum Lipid Level in OLETF Rats (식이 제한 급여가 OLETF 횐쥐의 혈청 지질량에 미치는 영향)

  • To determine the effects of dietary restriction on obese type 2 diabetes we measured body weight, blood glucose and serum lipid level in dietary restricted Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. OLETF rats (obese diabetic rats) and LETO rats (control rats) were grouped into 3 groups; control (free feed) group, 20% dietary restricted (20% DR) group and 40% dietary restricted (40% DR) group. Body weight of rats was measured every weeks and the level of glucose, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and HDL-cholesterol in blood of rats were also determined at 12 weeks after dietary restriction. Body weight of control, 20% DR and 40% DR groups were increased by 41%, 20% and 10%, respectively in LETO rats and by 24%, 10% and -2%, respectively in OLETF rats. Blood glucose level of LETO rats were decreased by 12% on 40% DR compared to control group but the differences between control group and 20% DR group was not observed. The blood glucose level of OLETF rats were decreased by 20% in 40% DR group and by 15% in 20% DR group. The levels of blood triglyceride in 20% DR and 40% DR group were decreased by 20%, 15% in LETO rats and by 37%, 32% in OLETF rats, respectively Total cholesterol revel was not changed by dietary restriction in LETO rats, but significant changes were observed in OLETF rats by both 20% and 40% dietary restriction. HDL-cholesterol levels were also increased by dietary restriction in both LETO and OLETF rats. These results suggested that body weight and blood glucose, serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels were decreased by dietary restriction and these changes are more susceptive in diabetic rats than non-diabetic animals.
