  • Several new 5-aryl-3-($\beta$-D-glucopyranosylthio)-1,2,4-triazoles have been synthesized. The structures of these new compounds were confirmed by $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR and elemental analyses. The antibacterial activities of the compounds were also evaluated.

  • We have synthesized several bicyclic heteroaromatic compounds with bridgehead nitrogen from N-amine salts of heteroaromatic amines. 2-Amino and 2-unsubstituted thiazolo[3,2-b][l,2,4]triazole derivatives 2a-b were prepared by the cyclization reaction from N-amine salts of aminothiazole-5-yl(N-methoxyimino)acetate with cyanogen bromide and formamidine acetic acid salt, respectively. 2-Methylthiazolo[3,2-b][1,2,4]triazole 2c was obtained from N-acetylated N-amine salt of aminothiazole-5-yl(N-methoxyimino)acetate by the cyclization reaction in the presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA). 2-Substituted and 2-unsubstituted thiazole[3,2-b][1,2,4]triazole derivatives 2a-c were coupled with 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA). Coupled cephalosporin derivatives 1a-c did not have good antibacterial activities in vitro.

  • The Strain-Promoted Azide-Alkyne Cycloaddition (SPAAC) is a powerful method for synthesizing triazoles, even under physiological conditions, without a copper catalyst. This technique provides an efficient means for everyone to synthesize complex triazole derivatives rapidly. In order to investigate the configuration of triazole derivatives using bicyclo[6.1.0.]-nonyne (BCN) and chiral azide, it is necessary to employ the 2D NMR. Both 1D and 2D NMR (COSY, HSQC, 15N HMBC) are used to analyze the complex triazole product containing cyclooctyne, a diastereomeric product. The stereometric difference of the proton bonded to the same carbon is determined through the HSQC assignment. The intriguing splitting pattern of carbon resonances also reveals their diastereomeric configuration and will aid in further research based on physiological knowledge.

  • Chemical management of dollar spot in turf may lead to the development of Sclerotinia homoeocarpa populations with reduced fungicide sensitivity. The objective of this study was to investigate resistance of S. homoeocarpa isolates to triazole fungicides and to test cross-resistance among three triazole fungicides. A total of 66 isolates of S. homoeocarpa were collected from 15 golf courses across Korea, and tested via in vitro sensitivity assay against hexaconazole, propiconazole and tebuconazole. $EC_{50}$ values of the isolates to these fungicides were distributed in the range of $0.001-1.1\;a.\;i.\;{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$. Based on the $EC_{50}$ values, twelve representative strains were selected as sensitive isolates including control and insensitive isolates with respect to each fungicide. At a concentration of $0.1\;a.\;i.\;{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ for all fungicides, the selected strains were distinguished as sensitive or resistant isolates with the mycelial growth inhibition rate of 50% as the criterion. The $EC_{50}$ values of resistant strains exposed to hexaconazole, propiconazole and tebuconazole were 20-50 times, 50-70 times, and 77 times greater, respectively, than that of the control strains. Two isolates of S. homoeocarpa S0-41 and Sh14-2-1 showed sensitivity toward all the fungicides used, while two other isolates Sh7-5-1 and Sh2-1-1 showed resistance to all fungicides. Each isolate showed similar resistance to the three types of triazole fungicides, whereby cross-resistance of isolates was confirmed in the present study; all three triazole fungicide combinations displayed significant correlation coefficients equivalent to or greater than 0.8.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the growth of plug seedlings and yield of tomato affected by the concentration of triazole and the treatment time. The length and leaf area of tomato seed-lings were reduced by the application of triazole compared to control. Growth reduction of seedlings was greater by earlier application and higher concentration of triazole. The growth of tomato treated with hexaconazole were similar with control 4 weeks after sowing. The triazole treatment lowered the height of the first fruit set compared to control. However, triazole treatment did not affect the number of fruits and yield.
