  • The use of Al alloys instead of fiber-reinforced plastic(FRP) in ship construction has increased because of the advantages of Al-alloy ships, including high speed, increased load capacity, and ease of recycling. This paper describes the effects of probe diameter on the optimum friction stir welding conditions of 5456-H116 alloy for leisure ship, measured by a tensile test. In friction stir welding using a probe diameter of 5 mm under various travel and rotation speed conditions, the best performance was achieved with a travel speed of 61 mm/min. Using a probe diameter of 6 mm, rotation speeds of 170-210 rpm, and a travel speed of 15 mm/min produced a rough surface and voids because of insufficient heat input produced by the low rotation speed. At 500-800 rpm, chips were observed, although there were no voids, and the weld surface was excellent. However, at 1100-2500 rpm, many chips were produced due to excessive heat input. Heat effects were very evident on the bottom. For a travel speed of 15 mm/min, heat input caused by friction increased as the rotation speed increased. The mechanical characteristics were degraded by accelerated softening due to increasing heat input.

  • This study suggest a way to improve duty process of KTX(Korea Train Express) high-speed train driver. A new operating system which based on safety was introduced to operate high-speed train which travel above 300km/h on the high-speed railroad but below 200km/h on the general railroad. There were some studies on the operation of high-speed train which travel on the high-speed railroad and on the general railroad with safety. However they overlooked the elements of human errors. The duty-load of KTX train driver's 14 basic operation processes was measured using NASA-TLX and found four processes with high duty-load. In this paper, critical tasks of the high duty-load processes are determined using a questionnaire. Some suggestions which include the improvement of facilities, operating system and operating skill are proposed to lighten duty-load of the critical tasks. The validity of the proposed new task processes is demonstrated by making question to KTX train driver. To use this results cost-benefit analysis, hazards analysis etc. should be performed additionally.

  • This study aims to develop travel time estimation and prediction models on the freeway using measurements from vehicle detectors. In this study, we established a travel time estimation model using traffic volume which is a principle factor of traffic flow changes by reviewing existing travel time estimation techniques. As a result of goodness of fit test. in the normal traffic condition over 70km/h, RMSEP(Root Mean Square Error Proportion) from travel speed is lower than the proposed model, but the proposed model produce more reliable travel times than the other one in the congestion. Therefore in cases of congestion the model uses the method of calculating the delay time from excess link volumes from the in- and outflow and the vehicle speeds from detectors in the traffic situation at a speed of over 70km/h. We also conducted short term prediction of Kalman Filtering to forecast traffic condition and more accurate travel times using statistical model The results of evaluation showed that the lag time occurred between predicted travel time and estimated travel time but the RMSEP values of predicted travel time to observations are as 1ow as that of estimation.

  • Korean travel agencies that have been utilizing the Internet passively feel threatened as global online travel agencies are quickly permeating the Korean travel market. Under these circumstances, this study conducted a focused analysis on how ICT affects the business environment of travel agencies. Based on the analyzed data, it also presents coping strategies for the Korean travel agencies. First, it is imperative to accelerate platform development to counteract the distribution structure of global tourism products. Second, it is essential that travel agencies actively utilize big data, the new paradigm of technology where data are generated at high speed, high volume, and for numerous purposes. Third, it is necessary to actively utilize a travel blog marketing strategy. As a communication tool for travel agencies, the continuing development of the Internet highlights the usefulness of marketing activities using blogs. Finally, it is essential to provide each customer more specialized travel consultancy.

  • The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. Welding characteristics of Inconel 600 Alloy using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were position of focus, laser power, travel speed. The gap and offset maintained as small as possible. Optical microscope were used to investigate the microstructures of the welded zone. The follow conclusions can be drawn the laser power and travel speed have a pronounced effect the fusion zone size and shape.

  • In order to calculate accurate traffic and traffic speed, qualified and sufficient GPS data should be provided. However, it is difficult to provide accurate traffic information using restricted GPS data from probe vehicles because of communication costs. This paper developed a algorithm that recovers links omitted by restricted GPS data with topology information, and calculate traffic speed with original links and recovered links. T traffic information service of city with a new algorithm can provide more accurate traffic and traffic speed than the original system.

  • In this study, welding phenomena involved in formation of penetrators during high frequency electric resistance welding were investigated. High speed cinematography of the process revealer that a molten bridge between neighboring skelp edges forms at apex point and travels along narrow gap toward to welding point at a speed ranging from 100 to 400 m/min. The bridge while moving along the narrow gap swept away oxide containing molten metal from the gap, providing oxide-free surface for a forge-welding at upsetting stand frequency of the budge formation, travel distance and speed of the bridge were affected by the heat input rate into strip. The travel distance and its standard deviation were found to have a strong relationship with the weld defect density. Based on the observation, a new mechanism of the penetrator formation during HF ERW process is proposed.

  • The Korean high speed railway system is scheduled to open sometime in 2004. To fulfill its duties, it is essential to view intermodalism in easy access to high speed railway station. To study travelers' choice of mode and to make improvements the transfer, a SP survey of 3628 was conducted in national level in the fall of 2001. An understanding of KTX passenger mode choice is crucial for station-related facility capacity planning. Development of main and regional high speed stations, as well as changes in the roadway and railroad transportation system for station access, will influence the relative demand for traveling by train from compel ing other transportation mode. The research described here was designed to derive a general overview of the basic travel patterns with an emphasis on intermodal transportation system.

  • The travel behavior can be analysed microscopically using GPS because the travel characteristics can be found out by travelling two test cars loaded with GPS equipments. The speed difference and spacing variation between the lead vehicle and the following's in uninterrupted flow are the important variables related to capacity and safety. This study analysed these with data obtained by travelling the 4th Line and 28th Line of the national road. The variation width in speed difference in the run time is below 3.0%. But, related to the speed difference in the situation of acceleration and deceleration the difference after 4second is bigger than that just after the start. The spacing variation is similar to this. The spacing just before deceleration concerning safety was analysed. When the theoretical values by the modeling method and observed values were compared, the observed values were analysed 12.52% shorter than the other in average.

  • There is high probability of children's traffic accidents. Because their physical, mental attribute are weak. Major part of the accidents happen during walking. Above all, jaywalking is the biggest traffic accident reason. Many traffic accidents take place on the road to school or near the home area. So Ministry of Public Administration and Security legislated children safeguard zone since 1995. But a study are inadequate the safety facilities on the effectiveness verification in the school zone. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of safety facilities. The vehicle speed is a direct correlation traffic accident. So in this study, the MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) is average travel speed in the school zone. The results shows that hump, rised pedestrian crossing has an effect.
