  • The finite element analyses of a composite hingeless rotor blade in forward flight have been performed to investigate the influence of blade design parameters on the blade stability. The blade structure is represented by a single cell composite box-beam and its nonclassical effects such as transverse shear and torsion-related warping are considered. The nonlinear periodic differential equations of motion are obtained by moderate deflection beam theory and finite element method based on Hamilton principle. Aerodynamic forces are calculated using the quasi-steady strip theiry with compressibility and reverse flow effects. The coupling effects between the rotor blade and the fuselage are included in a free flight propulsive trim analysis. Damping values are calculated by using the Floquet transition matrix theory from the linearized equations perturbed at equilibrium position of the blade. The aeroelastic results were compared with an alternative analytic approch, and they showed good correlation with each other. Some parametric investigations for the helicopter design variables, such as pretwist and precone angles are carried out to know the aeroelastic behavior of the rotor.

  • In this study, a new functional based on the Reissner theory, for thick plates on a Winkler foundation is obtained. This functional has geometric and dynamic boundary conditions. In deriving the new functional, the $G{\hat{a}}teaux$ differential is used. This functional which is in polar coordinates is also transformable into the classical potential energy equation. Bending and torsional moments, transverse shear forces, rotations and displacements are the basic unknowns of the functional. Two different sectorial elements are developed with $3{\times}8$ degrees of freedom (SEC24) and $4{\times}8$ degrees of freedom (SEC32). The accuracy of the SEC24 and SEC32 elements together are verified by applying the method to some problems taken from literature.

  • A simple matrix method to analyze the ship's transverse frame ring is proposed. In this approach, the frame ring is treated as a plane frame of uniform slender members. The loadings on the frame consist of buoyancy loads, deck loads and cargo loads. The hatch coaming are considered to deflect under the loads. Because of symmetry, only the half of the frame is analyzed. The method is to obtain the forces and moments on each member. The deformation of the frame can be determined from the nodal displacements. For a sample calculation, a frame ring of a 10,000 ton class cargo liner is analyzed on the IBM 1130 computer. The numerical results obtained are proved to be resonable.

  • An electromagnetic excitation force is caused by the air-gap flux density, which greatly influences the noise and vibration of the motor. In many real projects, skewed slot technology is widely used to reduce the harmonic components of the air-gap flux density to reduce the noise and vibration of the motor. However, a skewed slot has several side effects such as a transverse current and axial drifting. Thus, a double skewed slot rotor is selected with the aim of eliminating these side effects. This paper presents the exact structure of the double skewed slot rotor and the mechanism whereby the electromagnetic excitation force can be reduced. A multi-slice method is adopted to model the special structure. Finite element simulation is used to verify the theory.

  • An experimental study was performed on the pull-out behavior of 90-deg standard hooks from exterior beam-column connections. The effects of lateral confinement and fiber reinforcement of joint area were investigated. It was concluded ; (1) Substitution of the transverse column (confining) reinforcement with steel fibers at the joint region effectively reduces the extent of cracking in exterior joints caused by pull-out of hooked bars; and (2) The strength and ductility of hooked bars under pull-out forces are positively influenced by substituting the conventional confining reinforcement of exterior joints with steel fibers. Application of steel fibers to exterior joints seems to be an effective technique for improving the anchorage conditions of hooked bars, and also for reducing the congestion of reinforcement in exterior beam-column connections.

  • The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were compared between precious alloy S, and non-precious alloys V.U. and R. And the changes in bond strengths of non-precious alloys with ceramco porcelain, according to surface preparations by sand blasting, longitudinal grinding, transverse grinding, and high polishing, were studied. The test specimens were prepared by firing porcelain doughnuts on the surface prepared alloy rods, and investing in dental stone. The specimens were subjected to shear loading forces. The conclusions drawn from the investigation are as follows: 1. The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were higher in the non-precious alloys U and R, than in the precious alloy S. 2. The bond strengths were in descending order for R alloy, U alloy, V alloy, and S alloy. 3. The bond strengths were highest when the R alloy and U alloy were surface prepared by sand blasting. 4. All bond strength values were lowest when the alloy surfaces were prepared by high polishing.

  • This research covers the development of axi-symmetric plastic elements for injection molding with insert steel such as high stiffness Sabot. The functional requirements of sabot are concentricity and fracture resistance about vertical and horizontal forces. For these, an analysis of characteristics of PEI(polyetherimide) polymer is performed by standard test specimen with accordance of ASTM test guidance. Moldflow analysis and simulation of injection molding process are carried out in order not only to estimate of the warpage but also to predict the characteristics of residual stresses which both product and structure of mold may have. A new vertical side injection machine and transverse mold have been constructed. Results of the measuring concentricity and fracture test after molding of sabot are satisfied to design specification over Cp $ratio{\geq}1.33$. Finally, this technique needs more research application to others axi-symmetric elements having different radius with insert steel md structure analysis from now on.

  • A dynamic model of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox is developed by the lumped parameter method. The model accounts for shafts, ball bearings and journal bearings flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Excitation forces of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox are considered as the mass unbalance of the rotors and gear transmission error which comes from the modified tooth surface. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that there are no critical speeds at the operating speeds. One step and two step gearboxes are manufactured and are estimated for vibration/noise, lubrication and performance.

  • An analytical solution for the shape functions of a beam segment supported on a generalized two-parameter elastic foundation is derived. The solution is general, and is not restricted to a particular range of magnitudes of the foundation parameters. The exact shape functions can be utilized to derive exact analytic expressions for the coefficients of the element stiffness matrix, work equivalent nodal forces for arbitrary transverse loads and coefficients of the consistent mass and geometrical stiffness matrices. As illustration, each distinct coefficient of the element stiffness matrix is compared with its conventional counterpart for a beam segment supported by no foundation at all for the entire range of foundation parameters.

  • In this paper, buckling analysis of hybrid functionally graded plates using a novel four variable refined plate theory is presented. In this theory the distribution of transverse shear deformation is parabolic across the thickness of the plate by satisfying the surface conditions. Therefore, it is unnecessary to use a shear correction factor. The variations of properties of the plate through the thickness are according to a symmetric sigmoid law (symmetric S-FGM). The principle virtual works is used herein to extract equilibrium equations. The analytical solution is determined using the Navier method for a simply supported rectangular plate subjected to axial forces. The precision of this theory is verified by comparing it with the various solutions available in the literature.
