Multicasting, the transmission of data to a group, can be solved from constructing multicast tree, that is, the whole network is partitioned to some clusters and the clusters are constructed by multicast tree. This paper proposes an algorithm that reduces the multicast routing costs using a clustering method. Multicast tree is constructed by minimum-cost Steiner tree. It is important to solve the mnimum-cost Steiner tree problem in the multicast routing problems. Hence, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm for multicast routing problems using clustering method.
To guarantee the reliability in multicast transmission, researches providing reliability through hierarchical control tree which is independent on data channel tree are known to provide high scalability. However, the logical control tree in transport layer constructed without topology information of the corresponding network layer tree may inefficiently use the network resources because the logical control tree is not closely related to the tree topology of the network layer. A router assisted control tree mechanism presented in this paper would improve the efficiency of the link as well as it would remove the replicated data. In addition, it requires to a router a small change which examines the message type of the control tree.

The tree topology in multicast systems has high transmission efficiency, low latency, but poor resilience to node failures. In our work, some nodes are selected as backbone nodes to construct a tree-like core overlay. Backbone nodes are reliable enough and have strong upload capacity as well, which is helpful to overcome the shortcomings of tree topology. The core overlay is organized into a spanning tree while the whole overlay is of mesh-like topology. This paper focuses on improving the performance of the application-layer multicast overlay by optimizing the core overlay which is periodically adjusted with the proposed optimization algorithm. Our approach is to construct the overlay tree based on the out-degree weighted reliability where the reliability of a node is weighted by its upload bandwidth (out-degree). There is no illegal solution during the evolution which ensures the evolution efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed approach greatly enhances the reliability of the tree-like core overlay systems and achieves shorter delay simultaneously. Its reliability performance is better than the reliability-first algorithm and its delay is very close to that of the degree-first algorithm. The complexity of the proposed algorithm is acceptable for application. Therefore the proposed approach is efficient for the topology optimization of a real multicast overlay.

There are a number of studies that propose transmission power control algorithms in wireless sensor networks. However, these algorithms have a lot of overhead in the initialization phase since a number of packets have to be transmitted to determine the optimal transmission power level. This paper proposes the transmission power control technique considering the shortest-path to minimize the hop-count without the occurrence of any power control messages. We applied the proposed technique on tree-based network component implemented on TinyOS. And we evaluated the performance including transmission energy and average network depth with 21 motes. Compared to before, the proposed technique reduces about 24.7% of the average electric current on transmitting. As a result of considering the shortest-path, the hop-count considering the shortest-path was about 41% less than a normal network.
Among the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods for wood defect detection, ultrasonic wave has been considered as competitive technique in terms of economics and workability. Until now, researches on application of NDE methods for wood have focused mainly on standing tree and logs. Recently, some attempts have been conducted with NDE technique, for evaluation of wooden structural members. However, wooden structural members are different from others (standing tree or log) in various aspects. Expecially when some parts or whole member are covered with other materials, they can't be evaluated appropriately on general NDE methods. For the purpose of development of proper NDE technique for the wooden structural members, the ultrasonic wave transmission process investigated on artificial defect in wood. First, various types of transmission process were assumed, and then the transmission times were predicted respectively. Predicted times were compared with the measured time of ultrasonic wave and then a suitable type of transmission process is determined. In case of the ultrasonic wave doesn't transmit directly due to defect, it is reflected once only at the opposite surface of member, and the path is accord with the line of shortest length.
Usually time synchronization is performed after routing tree is constructed. This thesis proposes a time synchronization algorithm combined with single-flooding routing tree construction algorithm in a single path. TSRA (Time Synchronization Routing Algorithm) uses routing packets to construct a routing tree. Two types of time information are added to the routing packet: one is the packet receiving time, and the other is the packet sending time. Time offset and transmission time-delay between parent node and child node could be retrieved from the added time information using LTS (Lightweight Time Synchronization) algorithm. Then parent node sends the time offset and transmission time to children nodes and children nodes can synchronize their time to the parent node time along the routing tree. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared to the TPSN (Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks) which is known to have high accuracy using NS2 simulation tool. The simulation result shows that the accuracy of time synchronization is comparable to TPSN, the synchronization time of all sensor nodes is faster than TPSN, and the energy consumption is less than TPSN.
The increased popularity of multimedia applications places a great demand on efficient data storage and transmission techniques. Some methods have been proposed to combine compression and encryption together to reduce the overall processing time, but they are either insecure or intensive computationally. specially, they are unsuitable to wireless communication of mobile device. We propose a novel solution called partial encryption, We introduce quadtree and zerotree wavelet image compression in this paper, it reduces computation for date transmission in mobile device, and does not reduce the compression rate. In conclusion, the proposed partial encryption schemes are fast, secure, and do not reduce the compression performance of underlying compression algorithm.

Faster, safer and cheaper mailing of the postal matter is essential for surviving in the competitive market of home-delivery service. The Steiner tree connects points minimally in geometrical way and has been used in the distribution system optimization and optimal routing of the transmission lines of the electric power system. This paper proposes a method to select the optimal location of mail distribution center that minimally connect the local mail center of some major cities using the Steiner tree theorem.
This study deals with the problem of information dissemination in a communication network, which is defined to be the process whereby a set of messages, generated by an originator, is transmitted to all the members within the network. Since this type of message generally includes control data to manage the network or global information that all members should know, it is to be required to transmit it to all the members as soon as possible. In this study, it is assumed that a member can either transmit or receive a message and an informed member can transmit it to only one of its neighbors at time. This type of transmission is called 'local broadcasting' Several schemes of call sequencing are designed for a general-type network with nonuniform edge transmission times, and then computer simulations are performed. Some heuristics for information dissemination are proposed and tested. For this, optimal call sequence in a tree-type network, sequencing theory and graph theory are applied. The result shows that call sequencing based on the shortest path tree is the most desirable.
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are widely applied in monitoring and control of environment parameters. It is sometimes necessary to disseminate data through wireless links after they are deployed in order to adjust configuration parameters of sensors or distribute management commands and queries to sensors. Several approaches have been proposed recently for data dissemination in WSNs. However, none of these approaches achieves both high efficiency and low complexity simultaneously. To address this problem, cluster-tree based network architecture, which divides a WSN into hierarchies and clusters is proposed. Upon this architecture, data is delivered from base station to all sensors in clusters hierarchy by hierarchy. In each cluster, father broadcasts data to all his children with instantly decodable network coding (IDNC), and a novel scheme targeting to maximize total transmission gain (MTTG) is proposed. This scheme employs a new packet scheduling algorithm to select IDNC packets, which uses weight status feedback matrix (WSFM) directly. Analysis and simulation results indicate that the transmission efficiency approximate to the best existing approach maximum weight clique, but with much lower computational overhead. Hence, the energy efficiency achieves both in data transmission and processing.
