In spite of increasing public concern about the human exposure to electric and magnetic fields(EMFs), there is little information about the EMF levels in the vicinity of power facilities and of home appliances. To provide such information, a nationwide survey for EMFs near overhead transmission lines has been conducted. The median values of the electric fields and magnetic fields of 153 transmission lines were 0.47 kV/m and 11.6 mG, respectively. The maximum values were 3.16 kV/m and 125 mG. These were low values in comparison with any EMF guidelines or standards of advanced contries. Measurements of the magnetic fields of typical home appliances and daily human exposure records have been also conducted. These magnetic field values were comparable to those of the transmission lines.
The paper deals with an approach to time domain simulation for closed end at the downstream of pipe, hydraulic lines terminating into a tank and series lines with change of cross sectional area. Time domain simulation of a fluid power systems containing hydraulic lines is very complex and difficult if the transfer functions consist of hyperbolic Bessel functions which is the case for the distributed parameter dissipative model. In this paper, the magnitudes and phases of the complex transfer functions of hydraulic lines are calculated, and the MATLAB Toolbox is used to formulate a rational polynomial approximation for these transfer functions in the frequency domain. The approximated transfer functions are accurate over a designated frequency range, and used to analyze the time domain response. This approach is usefully to simulate fluid power systems with hydraulic lines without to approximate the frequency dependent viscous friction.

The outages of transmission lines give big damages to the industrial world Lightning outages occupy above 50[%] among the outages of transmission lines. To decrease the lightning outage rates, it is necessary to try countermeasures considering economical points. For the lightning protection of power transmission lines, it is very important to accurately predict the lightning outage rate because the reliability criterion for transmission line is normally specified as the number of flashovers per 100[km] per year. The phenomenon of an insulator flashover by a lightning stroke is a very complex electromagnetic event. And to calculate the lightning outage rates of transmission lines, so many calculation should be repeated because there are many overhead lines and power lines. Therefore it is necessary to develope a program for it. In this paper, we briefly introduce the basic concept for lightning outage calculation algorithm and the program.

The underground transmission lines is continuously expanded in power systems. Therefore the fault of underground transmission lines are increased every year because of the complication of systems. However the studies dealing with fault location in the case of the underground transmission lines are rarely reported except for few papers using traveling wave method and calculating underground cable impedance. This paper describes the algorithm using fuzzy system and travelling wave method in the underground transmission line. Fuzzy inference is used for fault discrimination. To organize fuzzy algorithm, it is important to select target data reflecting various underground transmission line transient states. These data are made of voltage and average of RMS value on zero sequence current within one cycle after fault occurrence. Travelling wave based on wavelet transform is used for fault location. In this paper, a variety of underground transmission line transient states are simulated by EMTP/ATPDraw and Matlab. The input which is used to fault location algorithm are Detail 1(D1) coefficients of differential current. D1 coefficients are obtained by wavelet transform. As a result of applying the fuzzy inference and travelling wave based on wavelet transform, fault discrimination is correctly distinguished within 1/2 cycle after fault occurrence and fault location is comparatively correct.

Due to icing and snow, power transmission lines have asymmetric cross sections, and their motion becomes unstable. At this time, the vibration caused by the wind is called galloping. If galloping is continuous, short circuits or ground faults may occur. It is possible to prevent galloping by installing spacers between transmission lines. In this study, the transmission line is modeled as a mass-spring-damper system by using RecurDyn. To analyze the dynamic behavior of the transmission line, the damping coefficient is derived from the free vibration test of the transmission line and Rayleigh damping theory. The drag and lift coefficient for modeling the wind load are calculated from the flow analysis by using ANSYS Fluent. Galloping simulations according to spacer stiffness and interval are carried out. It is found that when the stiffness is 100 N/m and the interval around the support is dense, the galloping phenomenon is reduced the most.

Because of the continuous increasing of energy consumption, metallic pipelines are widely used to supply services to customers such as gas, oil, water, etc. Most common metallic pipelines are underground and are now frequently being installed in nearby electric power lines. In recent years, buried gas pipeline close to power lines can be subjected to hazardous induction effects, especially during single line to ground faults. because it can cause corrosion and it poses a threat to the safety of workers responsible for maintenance. Accordingly, it is necessary to take into consideration for analysis of induced voltage on gas pipelines in transmission lines. This paper analyzed the induced voltage on the gas pipelines due to the 154kV transmission lines in normal case and in different faulty case conditions using EMTP (Electro-Magnetic Transients Program).
The oscillation is very dangerous in bundled transmission lines, especially 345kV 4 bundle transmission lines are very weak for subspan oscillations. In some cases, subspan oscillations are continuously occurred in the same subspan. In order to develop the control method of the above subspan oscillation, this paper suggests a method of applying twin spacers to the subspans. We have carried out some tests to analyze the oscillation phenomena after installing twin spacers on 34sky real lines, and we got a good effect for controling subspan oscillations.
The sharing of common corridors by electric power transmission lines and pipelines is becoming more common place. However, such corridor sharing can result in undesired coupling of electromagnetic energy from the power lines to the near facilities. During a fault on any of the transmission lines, energization of the earth by supporting structures near the fault can result in large voltages appearing locally between the earth and the steel wall of any nearby pipeline. This paper presents the outline of the tower footings for the transmission lines having been used in KEPCO and analyzes the earth resistance for operation method of the tower footing, that is contact presence for the anchor and reinforcing rob of the tower and foundation presence of the underground wiring.
This paper analyses the characteristics of incomplete-journey double-circuit transmission lines on the same tower formed by single-circuit lines and double-circuit lines, and then presents a fault location algorithm based on identification of fault branch. With the relationship between the three-phase system and the double-circuit line system, a phase-mode transformation matrix for double-circuit lines can be derived. Based on the derived matrix, the double-circuit lines with faults can be decoupled, and then the fault location for an incomplete-journey double-circuit line is achieved by using modal components in the mode domain. The algorithm is divided into two steps. Firstly, the fault branch is identified by comparing the relationships of voltage amplitudes at the bonding point. Then the fault location, on the basis of the identification result, is calculated by using a two-terminal method, and only the fault distance of the actual fault branch can be obtained. There is no limit on synchronization of each terminal sampling data. The results of ATP-EMTP simulation show that the proposed algorithm can be applied within the entire line and can accurately locate faults in different fault types, fault resistances, and fault distances.
Overhead transmission lines are classified by the number of sub conductors per phase. Korean transmission lines use two, four, or six-conductor bundle. Bundle of conductors must have spacers or spacer dampers which keep the proper distance between sub conductors. They can prevent conductors from being vibrated or twisted due to the wind. As for the two-conductor bundle, alternating current flow generates absorption force between sub conductors which may cause a collision of sub conductors. To prevent sub conductors from being vibrated, twisted, and collided, spacer or spacer damper installation method is designed considering vibration characteristics of sub conductors. We have spacer installation method for four or six-conductor bundle lines. However, we don't have it for two-conductor bundle ones. So we have installed spacers at regular intervals in two-conductor bundle lines, and it caused rigid body oscillation of conductors due to the wind which made a flashover between conductors. This paper introduces a vibration characteristic analysis of two-conductor bundle and proposes a spacer installation method for two-conductor bundle lines.
