Structural Changes in Isothermal Crystallization Processes of Synthetic Polymers Studied by Time-Resolved Measurements of Synchrotron-Sourced X-Ray Scatterings and Vibrational Spectra

  • The structural changes occurring in the isothermal crystallization processes of polyethylene (PE), poly-oxymethylene (POM), and vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene (VDFTrFE) copolymer have been reviewed on the basis of our recent experimental data collected by the time-resolved measurements of synchrotron-sourced wide-angle (WAXS) and small-angle X-ray scatterings (SAXS) and infrared spectra. The temperature jump from the melt to a crystallization temperature could be measured at a cooling rate of 600-1,000 $^{\circ}C$/min, during which we collected the WAXS, SAXS, and infrared spectral data successfully at time intervals of ca. 10 sec. In the case of PE, the infrared spectral data clarified the generation of chain segments of partially disordered trans conformations immediately after the jump. These segments then became transformed into more-regular all-trans-zigzag forms, followed by the formation of an orthorhombic crystal lattice. At this stage, the generation of a stacked lamella structure having an 800-${\AA}$-long period was detected in the SAXS data. This structure was found to transfer successively to a more densely packed lamella structure having a 400-${\AA}$-long period as a result of the secondary crystallization of the amorphous region in-between the original lamellae. As for POM, the formation process of a stacked lamella structure was essentially the same as that mentioned above for PE, as evidenced from the analysis of SAXS and WAXS data. The observation of morphology-sensitive infrared bands revealed the evolution of fully extended helical chains after the generation of lamella having folded chain structures. We speculate that these extended chains exist as taut tie chains passing continuously through the neighboring lamellae. In the isothermal crystallization of VDFTrFE copolymer from the melt, a paraelectric high-temperature phase was detected at first and then it transferred into the ferroelectric low-temperature phase at a later stage. By analyzing the reflection profile of the WAXS data, the structural ordering in the high-temperature phase and the ferroelectric phase transition to the low-temperature phase of the multi-domain structure were traced successfully.

  • Cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises) are aquatic mammals that experienced drastic changes during the transition from terrestrial to aquatic environment. Morphological changes include streamlined body, alterations in the face, transformation of the forelimbs into flippers, disappearance of the hindlimbs and the acquisition of flukes on the tail. For a prolonged diving, cetaceans acquired hypoxia-resistance by developing various anatomical and physiological changes. However, molecular mechanisms underlying these adaptations are still limited. CREB-binding protein (CREBBP) is a transcriptional co-activator critical for embryonic development, growth control, metabolic homeostasis and responses to hypoxia. Natural selection analysis of five cetacean CREBBPs compared with those from 15 terrestrial relatives revealed strong purifying selection, supporting the importance of its role in mammals. However, prediction for amino acid changes that elicit functional difference of CREBBP identified three cetacean specific changes localized within a region required for interaction with SRCAP and in proximal regions to KIX domain of CREBBP. Mutations in CREBBP or SRCAP are known to cause craniofacial and skeletal defects in human, and KIX domain of CREBBP serves as a docking site for transcription factors including c-Myb, an essential regulator of haematopoiesis. In these respects, our study provides interesting insights into the functional adaptation of cetacean CREBBP for aquatic lifestyle.

Ti-Ga 합금 위에 형성된 산화티타늄 피막의 광 전기분해 특성에 관한 연구 (Photoelectrochemical Behaviour of Oxide Films on Ti-Ga2O3 Alloy)

  • With the aim to obtain $TiO_2$ films with an increased photorespones and absorbance in the visible region of the solar spectrum, the direct oxidation of titanium alloys were performed. In this study, $Ti-Ga_2O_3$ alloy was prepared by mixing, pressing and arc melting of appropriate amounts of titanium and $Ga_2O_3$ powder. Electrochemical measurements were performed in three electrode cell using electrolyte of 1M NaOH solution. The oxide films on $Ti-Ga_2O_3$ alloy was composed of $Ti_2O$, TiO, $TiO_2$, $Ga_2TiO_5$. The free energy efficiency (${\eta}e$) of $Ti-Ga_2O_3$ oxide films had 0.8~1.3 % and were increased with the increase of $Ga_2O_3$ content up to 10wt %. The onset potential ($V_{on}$) had -0.8V~0.9V ranges and were shifted to anodic direction with the increase of $Ga_2O_3$ content. The spectral response of Ti-$Ga_2O_3$ oxides were similar to the response of the $TiO_2$ and their $E_g$ were observed to 2.90~3.0eV. Variations of onset potential($V_{on}$) associated with electrolyte pH were -59mV/pH. This probably reflects the nature of the bonding of $OH^-$ ion to the $TiO_2$ surface, a common phenomena in the transition-metal oxides.

항공기용 가스터빈의 고압 냉각터빈 노즐에 대한 복합열전달 해석 (Conjugate Heat Transfer Analysis for High Pressure Cooled Turbine Vane in Aircraft Gas Turbine)

  • Conjugate heat transfer analysis was performed to investigate the flow and cooling performance of the high pressure turbine nozzle of gas turbine engine. The CHT code was verified by comparison between CFD results and experimental results of C3X vane. The combination of k-${\omega}$ based SST turbulence model and transition model was used to solve the flow and thermal field of the fluid zone and the material property of CMSX-4 was applied to the solid zone. The turbine nozzle has two internal cooling channels and each channel has a complex cooling configurations, such as the film cooling, jet impingement, pedestal and rib turbulator. The parabolic temperature profile was given to the inlet condition of the nozzle to simulate the combustor exit condition. The flow characteristics were analyzed by comparing with uncooled nozzle vane. The Mach number around the vane increased due to the increase of coolant mass flow flowed in the main flow passage. The maximum cooling effectiveness (91 %) at the vane surface is located in the middle of pressure side which is effected by the film cooling and the rib turbulrator. The region of the minimum cooling effectiveness (44.8 %) was positioned at the leading edge. And the results show that the TBC layer increases the average cooling effectiveness up to 18 %.

졸-겔법으로 제조한 $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}F_y$ 초전도물질의 특성분석 (Characterization of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}F_y$ Superconducting Materials Made by a Sol-Gel Process)

  • Fluorine-doped YBaS12TCuS13TOS17-xTFS1yT superconducting materials with y varing two orders of magnitude form 0.02 to 2.0 have been prepared by a sol-gel process by using metal nitrate salts, sodium hydroxide and sodium fluoride. Fluorine contents have been measured using an ion-selective electrode. All fluorine doped as reactant were found to be present in the resulted samples. From the observation of XRD it has been concluded that the samples with y 0.2 formed simply the single phase of perovskite structure, whereas those with y 0.5 yielded together some compounds such as BaFS12T, YFS13T and CuO in the resulted samples. The observation of solid state S019TF NMR has been carried out in order to check whether fluorine was actually incorporated into the lattice sites, and the experimental results revealed that the mole ratio of fluorine incorporated into the lattice sites of YBaS12TCuS13TOS17-xT was approximately 0.2 per mole of the compound. Also electrical resistivity measurement indicated that onset transition temperature has the tendency to increase slightly with increasing y in the dilute region as y 0.2.

  • 접지면이 있는 무한 평판의 유전체상에 놓인 점 전기전류원 문제에서 야기되는 마이크로스트립 표면 dyadic Green 함수에 대한 간단하면서도 정확한 근사표현식이 본 논문에서 개발된다. 이 근사표현식은 본 논문에서 소개하는 새로운 방법에 의해서 유도된 공간파와 표면파 그리고 전이지역에서 이들간의 결합을 나타내는 전이함수를 모두 포함하고 있으며, 유전체 두께가 $0.04\pi$($\pi$는 자유공간파장)나 되는 두꺼운 경우에도 점원에서 $0.1\pi$ 떨어진 가까운 위치에서까지 유용하므로 실제 마이크로스트립 안테나 어레이설계시 안테나 소자간 전자기적 결합에 의한 어레이 안테나의 특성저하나 마이크로웨이브회로 또는 초고속의 디지탈 프린트 회로기판 설계시 연결선 특성임피던스와 연결선간의 crosstalk에 의한 회로성능 저하 문제를 해석하는데 아주 유효하다. 이 근사식에 의한 상호임피던스 수치해석 결과와 함께 계산에 소요되는 CPU 시간을 예시함으로써 본 근사식의 정확성 및 효율성을 입증하여 보았다.

  • 가시광을 선택적으로 반사하는 광 응답성 코레스테릭 액정을 조제하고, 그 선택적 반사파장의 광화학적 변조를 시도함으로서 포토닉스(Photonices) 재료로서의 가능성을 검토했다. 고유의 선택 반사파장의 변조는 아조벤젠 유도체의 트란스(trans)·시스(cis)간의 광이성화에 의해 상전이 온도와 칼라의 변화와 함께 가역적으로 제어되어질 수 있었다. 또한 선택 반사파장의 변화에 수반되는 반사율의 변화는 코레스테릭 액정과 검출광의 광학적 성질에 의해 크게 좌우되어 지고, 반사율의 가역적인 스위칭에 있어서는 검출광에 대한 코레스테릭 액정의 초기 반사파장의 위치는 상반된 스위칭 모드(normal and reverse modes)를 산출하기에 매우 중요한 역할을 담당했다.

중국 동북 3성의 이식지명에 관한 연구 I - 연변 조선족 자치주를 사례로 - (A Study on the Place Name of Migration in Three Northeast Provinces of China I : Case of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture)

  • 본 연구는 연변조선족자치주 조선족 마을 지명을 분석하여 한반도에서 유래된 이식지명의 분포와 유형을 파악하고자 하였다. 연구결과 연변조선족자치주에 분포하는 2,015개 마을 중, 조선족 거주지역은 945개 마을로 분석되었 다. 조선족 거주지 지명을 분석한 결과 한반도에서 유래된 이식지명은 51개로 파악되었다. 중국의 시대적 변천에 따라 한반도 기원의 이식지명은 현재까지, 34개 지명이 소실되었고, 유지된 지명은 16개, 그리고 소실 후 다시 복원된 지명은 1개로 나타났다. 이식지명은 명명 방법에 따라 소지역 직접이식, 대지역 직접이식, 병합이식으로 나눌 수 있었다. 소지역 직접이식은 전북 정읍, 무주와 같이 기원지와 도착지 지명이 같은 경우, 대지역 직접이식은 강원도 사람들이 마을을 이루어 명명한 강원촌, 그리고 병합이식은 함경도 길주와 석성면 지명이 결합되어 길성촌으로 명명된 경우가 예가 된다. 본 연구결과는 민족의 이주과정 및 정체성 연구를 위한 기초 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

풍력터빈 에어포일 주위의 벽면효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on Wall Interference Effect Around the Wind Turbine Airfoil)

  • 저 레이놀즈 수 조건에서 폐쇄형 풍동 시험부에 설치된 에어포일 주위의 벽면효과에 대한 실험적 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 풍동시험이 수행되었으며, 시험은 자유흐름속도 10 ~ 31 m/s와 시위기준 레이놀즈 수 $1.5{\times}10^5{\sim}4.6{\times}10^5$ 조건에서 수행되었다. 시위대 시험부 폭 비인 기준폐쇄율은 27.8%, 38.5%, 41.7%, 45.5% 그리고 55.6%이다. 시험 결과 벽면효과에 의해 에어포일 표면에서의 천이점이 후방으로 미미하게 이동함을 확인하였다. 또한, 벽면압력을 이용한 벽면효과 보정을 위해서는 에어포일을 중심으로 시위의 세배 이상의 벽면압력이 필요함을 확인하였다.

  • In PDP industry, the dielectrics and barrier ribs have been required with low dielectric constant, low melting point and Pb-free composition due to the low power consumption, low signal delay time and the environment restriction. We were studied with $B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-SrO glass systems about optical, thermal and dielectric properties. The glass forming region of the $B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-SrO glass systems was narrow due to the amount of the glass former $(B_2O_3)$. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the glasses was at $550{\sim}590^{\circ}C$. The glasses have 6~8 for the dielectric constant. Furthermore, the transmittance of the glasses was over 80% on the range of the visible ray. From the results, the glasses of the $B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-SrO glass systems should enable to be a good candidate of the PDP devices for information display with low dielectric constant. The aim of this study is to give a fundamental result of new glass system for low dielectric constant in the information display.
