  • HTTP or audio/video streaming services are good candidates for future centralized navigation system and in order to provide stability for such services, service providers use a cluster of web servers. In this paper, we provide the criteria for web server cluster design of vehicular users with consideration of differentiated access per different user classes. Several feasible scenarios are examined and their performance analysis using queueing theory is presented to provide the foundation for web server cluster design using traffic load balancer. Through the thorough analysis, efficient criteria for traffic load balancer design is derived. In order to satisfy users' service requirements, priority services controlled by traffic load balancer are considered and analyzed. We also provide the evaluation of the accuracy of the analytical model through simulation.

  • We study the dynamic burst assembly based on traffic prediction and offset and delay differentiation in optical burst switching network. To improve existing burst assembly mechanism and build an adaptive flexible optical burst switching network, an approach called quality of service (QoS) based adaptive dynamic assembly (QADA) is proposed in this paper. QADA method takes into account current arrival traffic in prediction time adequately and performs adaptive dynamic assembly in limited burst assembly time (BAT) range. By the simulation of burst length error, the QADA method is proved better than the existing method and can achieve the small enough predictive error for real scenarios. Then the different dynamic ranges of BAT for four traffic classes are introduced to make delay differentiation. According to the limitation of BAT range, the burst assembly is classified into one-dimension limit and two-dimension limit. We draw a comparison between one-dimension and two-dimension limit with different prediction time under QoS based offset time and find that the one-dimensional approach offers better network performance, while the two-dimensional approach provides strict inter-class differentiation. Furthermore, the final simulation results in our network condition show that QADA can execute adaptive flexible burst assembly with dynamic BAT and achieve a latency reduction, delay fairness, and offset time QoS guarantee for different traffic classes.

  • A fast and accurate integrated traffic object detection framework was proposed and developed, harnessing a computer-vision based deep-learning approach performing automatic object detections, a multi object tracking technology, and video pre-processing tools. The proposed method is capable of detecting traffic object such as autos, buses, trucks and vans from video recordings taken under a various kinds of external conditions such as stability of video, weather conditions, video angles, and counting the objects by tracking them on a real-time basis. By creating plausible experimental scenarios dealing with various conditions that likely affect video quality, it is discovered that the proposed method achieves outstanding performances except for the cases of rain and snow, thereby resulting in 98% ~ 100% of accuracy.

  • This study deals with the small-scale roundabout. The purpose of this study is to analyze the average delay of vehicle in roundabout, and suggest the efficient planning and design standard. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attentions to analyzing the average delay time according to the inscribed circle diameter, speed of circulatory roadway lane and traffic volume. The operational efficiencies of 96 scenarios (3 sizes of inscribed circle diameter ${\times}$ 4 types of circulatory roadway speed ${\times}$ traffic volume) are analyzed using VISSIM (Verkehr In $St{\ddot{a}}dten$-SIMulationsmodell). The main results are as follows. First, the optimal design speed of small-scale roundabout are derived from the above scenario analysis. Second, the traffic volume of LOS D is estimated to be 2,180-2,740pcph. Third, the traffic volume of LOS F that is required to improve is above 2.780pcph. The results might be expected to give some implications to providing the countermeasures for the operational efficiency of roundabout.

  • Advanced safety vehicle (ASV) equipped with intelligent drivers advisory functions for controlling vehicle to follow the lead vehicle and/or warning drivers on forward traffic impediments according to the roadway and traffic circumstances has been recently developed and on the market internationally. Standardization processes for ASV system functions have been issued in IS0/TC204 Working Group 14 (Vehicle/Roadway Warning and Control System) since 1995. Research projects developing test and evaluation technologies for ASV in establishing safety standards and/or conformity related to the national roadway and traffic circumstances are under study internationally. In Korea, an integrated test and evaluation Program was developed for the assessment of adaptive cruise control (ACC) system under the ITS research and development projects funded by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT). This paper demonstrates the integrated test and evaluation Programs for ACC system based on the draft international standard with related to the domestic roadway and traffic conditions. Field tests fulfilled under the scenarios based on the integrated test & evaluation programs for ACC system are discussed along with a review of earlier research work regarding international standards and the safety regulations.

  • This paper presents a topology based on packet tracer and a five-step scenario model to make it easier for students to understand the network on which VLANs are applied. Virtual LAN (VLAN), developed as an alternative solution to the Routers that distribute broadcast traffic, is a virtual local area network that logically configured regardless of the physical network. The VLAN prevents the network performance degradation resulting from the broadcast traffic by dividing the broadcast domain so that the bandwidth can be used more efficiently. In addition, it enhances the security because on communication between the devices belonging to different VLANs is impossible. The five-step scenarios in this paper presented an efficient implementation case for students to understand and validate the various functions of VLANs through ping/telnet/tracert test and simulation, after setting up each step of programming switches and routers in the virtual network.

  • Extensive use of social media applications and mobile devices continues to increase data traffic. Social media applications generate an endless and massive amount of multimedia traffic, specifically video traffic. Many social media platforms such as YouTube, Daily Motion, and Netflix generate endless video traffic. On these platforms, only a few popular videos are requested many times as compared to other videos. These popular videos should be cached in the user vicinity to meet continuous user demands. MEC has emerged as an essential paradigm for handling consistent user demand and caching videos in user proximity. The problem is to understand how user demand pattern varies with time. This paper analyzes three publicly available datasets, MovieLens 20M, MovieLens 100K, and The Movies Dataset, to find the user request pattern over time. We find hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly trends of all the datasets. Our resulted pattern could be used in other research while generating and analyzing the user request pattern in MEC-based video caching scenarios.

  • In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, research and development on autonomous vehicles have been actively conducted all over the world. Under these international trends, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is actively promoting the development of autonomous vehicles aiming at commercialization of autonomous vehicles at level 3 or higher by 2020. In the level 3 autonomous vehicle, it is essential to transfer control between the driver and the vehicle according to driving situations. Prior to the full-fledged autonomous vehicle age, this study developed a representative scenario for the safety evaluation on take-over on expressways. To accomplish this, we developed a highway driving scenario first, and then developed six control transition scenarios based on 2014 highway traffic accident data and take-over data. The variables to be considered in the developed scenarios are divided into drivers, vehicles, and environmental factors. A total of 36 variables are selected.

  • Busan New Port manages the largest volume of traffic among Korean ports, and accounts for 68.5% of the total volume of the Busan port. Due to this increase in volume, ultra large container ships call at Busan New Port. When the additional south container terminal as well as ongoing construction project of the west container terminal are completed, various encounters may occur at the Busan New Port entrance, which may cause collision risk.s Thus, the purpose of this study was to provide a plan to improve the safety of vessel traffic, in the in/out bound fairway of Busan New Port. For this purpose, the status of arrivals and departures of vessels in Busan New Port, was examined through maritime traffic flow analysis. Additionally, risk factors and safety measures were identified, by AHP analysis with ship operators of the study area. Also, based on the derived safety measures, scenarios were set using the Environmental Stress model (ES model), and the traffic risk level of each safety measure was identified through simulation. As a result, it is expected that setting the no entry area for one-way traffic would have a significant effect on mitigating risks at the Busan New Port entrance. This study can serve as a basis for preparing safety measures, to improve the navigation of vessels using Busan New Port. If safety measures are prepared in the future, it is necessary to verify the safety by using the traffic volume and flow changes according to the newly-opened berths.
