A prototype to improve endurance of solar powered aircraft using MPPT and rechargeable battery

  • This paper addresses the enhancement of long-endurance solar-powered aircraft through the integration of a rechargeable battery and Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller. Traditional long-endurance aircraft often rely on non-renewable energy sourcessuch as batteries orjetfuel, contributing to carbon emissions. The proposed system aims to mitigate these environmental impacts by harnessing solar energy and efficiently managing its storage and utilization. The MPPT controller optimizes the power output of photovoltaic cells, enabling simultaneous charging and discharging of the battery for propulsion and servo control. A prototype is presented to illustrate the practical implementation and functionality of the proposed design, marking a promising step towards more sustainable and enduring solar-powered flight.

Optimal Control Design for Automatic Ship Berthing by Using Bow and Stern Thrusters

  • Conventionally, because it is difficult to control a ship in shallow water and because attempting to do so creates unwanted environmental effects, maneuvering ships in the harbor area for berthing is usually done with the assistance of tugboats. In this paper, we propose a new method for berthing ships automatically by using bow and stern thrusters. Specifically, a steering motion model of a ship is considered, and parameters in the equation are evaluated by the system identification technique. An optimal controller based on observations was designed from the linearization of the non-linear ship motion in the horizontal plane. It is used to reduce the uncertainty about the ship's dynamics and reduce measurement requirements. The performance of the controller was also analyzed for its robustness relative to avoiding disturbing the environment due to winds, currents, and wave-drift forces. Experiments were conducted to estimate the potential for identifying result and the design of the controller. Specifically, in this paper, the system modeling and tracking control approach are discussed based on a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) servo-system design.

가변구조제어기를 이용한 다중실린더 위치동조 제어 (Motion Synchronization of Control for Multi Electro-Hydraulic Actuators)

  • This paper presents a method to achieve a synchronous positioning objective for a dual-cylinder electro-hydraulic system with friction characteristics. The control system consists of a VSC (Variable Structure Controller) for each of the hydraulic cylinders and a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) feedback controller. The PID controller is used for controlling the non-synchronous error generated by both cylinders when motion synchronization is carried out. To enhance the position-tracking performance of the individual cylinders friction characteristics is modeled in model, based on the estimated friction force. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively achieve the objective of position synchronization in the dualcylinder electro-hydraulic system, with maximum synchronization error with ${\pm}2\;mm$.

컴퓨터수치제어(CNC) 플라즈마 아아크 절단장치 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on development of plasma-arc cutting system with computer-numerical control)

  • Plasma arc cutting is a fusion cutting process in which a gas-constricted arc is employed to produce a high-temperature, high-velocity plasma jet on the workpiece. This process provides some advantages such as increased cutting velocity, excellent working accuracy and the ability to cut special materials (widely used stainless steels and Al-alloys, for example), when compared with iconventional oxyfuel gas cutting. From the view point of price and reliability of the power source, plasma arc cutting has also some distinct advantages over laser beam cutting. High-speed machines with NC or CNC systems are needed for the plasma arc or laser beam cutting process, while for oxyfuel gas cutting, low-speed machines with copying templates or optical-shape tracking sensors can be applied. The low price and high flexibility of the microprocessor arc contributing more and more the application of CNC system in the plasma arc cutting process, as in other manufacturing fields. From these points of view, a microprocessor-based plasma arc cutting system was developed by using a reference-pulse system, and its performance was tested. The interpolating routines were programmed in the assembly language for saving the memory volume and improving the compouting speed, which has an intimate relationship with the available cutting velocity.

  • 본 논문에서는 비선형 동적 마찰 성분을 효과적으로 보상하고 적응적으로 제어함으로써 차세대 항만 자동화 이송시스템으로 주목받고 있는 LMTT(linear motor-based transfer technology)의 위치 정밀도를 향상시키는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 셔틀카(shuttle car)와 컨테이너들의 다양한 중량과, 이로 인해 발생하는 동적 마찰 특성 파라미터들을 정확하게 추정할 수 있는 관측기를 설계하였다. 적응 backstepping 제어 기법을 적용하여 시스템이 안정하게 제어될 수 있도록 하는 제어기를 설계하였다. 시스템은 변화하는 환경에 대하여 높은 적응성을 가질 수 있어 여러 종류의 부하는 물론 마찰 특성의 변화에도 양호한 제어 특성을 유지할 수 있었다. 제안한 제어시스템의 타당성을 보여주기 위해 축소된 형태의 LMTT 시뮬레이터를 제작하여, 이에 대해 시뮬레이션과 실험만을 수행하여 제안하는 방법의 타당성과 실현성을 입증하고자 하였다.

  • 일반적으로 서보 제어 시스템에서 비선형 동적 특성을 갖는 마찰력은 제어기 성능에 악영향을 미친다. 특히, 선형으로 고려된 시스템에 제어기 이득을 잘 설계한다 하더라도 마찰 현상에 포함된 동적으로 변화하는 dead zone에 의한 정상상태 오차 및 리미트 사이클(limit Cycle) 등을 야기한다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 비선형 동적 마찰 성분을 효과적으로 보상하고 적응적으로 제어함으로써 차세대 항만 자동화 이송시스템으로 주목받고 있는 LMTT(linear motor-based transfer technology) 시스템의 위치 정밀도를 향상시키는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 본 제어대상은 셔틀카(shuttle car)와 컨테이너들의 다양한 중량과, 이로 인해 발생하는 동적 마찰 특성 파라미터들의 변화가 발생하므로 마찰력 내부 파라미터들의 추정이 요구된다. 제안하는 방법은 적응 backstepping 제어 기법으로 시스템이 안정하게 제어될 수 있는 조건으로 내부 파라미터 추정기를 설계하여 비선형 동적 마찰력을 보상하도록 하였다.

LonWorks/IP 가상 디바이스 네트워크에서 외란관측기와 ZPETC를 이용한 추종제어 (Tracking Control using Disturbance Observer and ZPETC on LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network)

  • LonWorks/IP VDN은 LonWorks 디바이스 네트워크와 IP(데이터) 네트워크와의 통합네트워크로 산업현장에 대한 유비쿼터스 접근을 제공하여 설비에 대한 예지 및 예방보전을 가능하게 한다. 산업현장에 대한 예지 및 예방보전을 위한 실시간 분산제어 환경에서 즉각적인 응답은 필수불가결한 요소이다. LonWorks/IP 가상 디바이스 네트워크(VDN) 상에서 불확실한 시간지연은 산업현장에 대한 실시간 예지 및 예방보전을 위해 분산 제어를 수행할 때 시스템의 안정성과 성능을 악화시킨다. 따라서 네트워킹 된 분산제어시스템의 안정성을 보장하고 성능을 개선하기 위해서는 시간에 따라 가변적인 불확실한 시간지연을 보상할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 LonWorks/IP VDN와 같은 분산제어 환경 하에서 서보 제어를 수행하는 경우에 외란관측기와 위상지연 보상기로 ZPETC(Zero Phase Error Tracking Controller)를 도입한 제어구조가 제시되고 컴퓨터 모의실험이 수행된다. 제안된 제어기의 성능은 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통하여 외란관측기를 도입한 Smith 예측기 기반의 내부모델제어기(IMC)의 제어결과와 비교 제시된다. 제안된 제어기는 외란과 잡음에 강인한 특성을 가지며, 주기적인 신호에 대한 추종성능을 상당히 개선시키므로 가변적인 시간지연을 갖는 LonWorks/IP VDN 상에서 주기적인 작업 수행에 필요한 분산 서보제어에 매우 적합하다.

  • This paper suggests an auto-tuning I'll) control algorithm that uses the advantage of PID controller and improves the system performance. The PID gains being designed by th- conventional method are tuned through the plant parameter estimation. The Extended Kalman Filter is used for the estimation. It works as an observer and noise filter. Moreover, as the plant state and the uncertain parameter could be estimated simultaneously, the proposed algorithm is very useful in the tracking control of a system with uncertain parameter. The auto-tuning I'll) controller could maintain the system performance in the case that the plant parameters are uncertain or varying. The proposed control algorithm requires a correct estimation of the plant parameter. The controller stability and the performance is considered through the stability criteria and a servo motor model. The Kalman filter estimates the most sensitive plant parameter, which is determined by the sensitivity analysis.

A Study on the Control Model Identification and H(sub)$\infty$ Controller Design for Trandem Cold Mills

  • This paper considers the control model identification and H(sub)$\infty$ controller design for a tandem cold mill (TCM). In order to improve the performance of the existing automatic gauge control (AGC) system based on the Taylor linearized model of the TCM, a new mathematical model that can complement the Taylor linearized model is constructed by using the N4SID algorithm based on subspace method and the least squares algorithm based on ARX model. It is shown that the identified model had dynamic characteristics of the TCM than the existing Taylor linearized model. The H(sub)$\infty$ controller is designed to have robust stability to the system parameters variation, disturbance attenuation and robust tracking capability to the set-up value of strip thickness. The H(sub)$\infty$ servo problem is formulated and it is solved by using LMI (linear matrix inequality) techniques. Simulation results demonstrate the usefulness and applicability of the proposed H(sub)$\infty$ controller.

광디스크 드라이버의 풀인(pull-in) 성능향상을 위한 이득 스케줄링 제어기의 설계 (Design of a Gain Scheduling Controller to Improve Pull-in Performance in Optical Disc Drive)

  • This paper proposes a stable gain scheduling method of linear time invariant controllers for tracking servo system. In order to read and write the data on the optical disc, the pick-up head should be moved to the exact track quickly and follow the track immediately. Two different controllers are used for each moving and track-following. In pull-in period, a transition period from moving to track-following, the head might slip and miss the target track. This brings on another searching process and increases the total time. One way to avoid slipping is to extend the bandwidth of the track-following controller. But, extending the bandwidth could degrade the following performance. More prevalent way is to use one more controller in this pull-in period and switch to the following controller. In general, however, switching or scheduling of stable controllers cannot guarantee the stability. This paper suggests an scheduling method guaranteeing the overall stability not only in a generalized form but also in special form for SISO system. The sufficient condition is derived from the fact that Q factor of a stable controller should be stay in $RH_{\infty}$ space. In the experiment, the proposed method shows better performance than the switching method such as shorter time and lower current consumption.
