  • The body composition of an ancient roofing tiles excavated from Chonnam province has been investigated by X-ray diffraction, and inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy. Ancient roofing tiles were excavated at ancient mountain fortress and kiln sites. The body composition of roofing tiles was different according to the excavated sites. The mineral component of roofing tiles were grouped in the five types and chemical composition was different according to the excavated areas. It is presumed that the body of roofing tiles used low-grade raw materials containing $Fe_2O_3$ 4-10%. The trace element composition of the roofing tiles were different, and it might be all ret1ection of different geological characteristics. The characteristic element of rooting tiles was vanadium element of the analyzed 20 trace elements. By $SiO_2-V$ distribution diagram types, roofing tiles excavated from the Geomdan mountain fortress at Sunchon, kiln site in Yeochon, Gorak and Cheoksan mountain fortress at Yeosu were grouped into the same excavated site.

  • A new type of uranium occurrence in Korea was identified in pegmatitic and hydrothermally altered granite in the Daejeon area. The U-bearing parts typically include muscovite, pink-feldspar and sericite as alteration minerals. In this study, the geochemical characteristics and alteration age of the granitic rocks were examined to provide evidence for hydrothermally-enriched uranium. The K-Ar ages of muscovite coexisting with U-bearing minerals were determined as 123 and 128 Ma. The U-bearing rocks have relatively low ($CaO+Na_2O$), high $K_2O$ contents, and high alteration index values by major element geochemistry. The trace element geochemistry shows that the uraniferous rocks have significantly low Th/U ratios and strongly differentiated features. The rare earth element patterns indicate that the uraniferous rocks have a low total REE and LREE contents with depletion of Eu. Considering the geochemical variation of the granitic rock major, trace and rare earth elements, it can be concluded that uranium enrichment in pegmatites and altered granite should be genetically related to post-magmatic hydrothermal alteration of K-metasomatism after emplacement of the two-mica granite. This is the first report for geochemical characteristics of Mesozoic granite-related U-occurrences in South Korea. This study will help further research for uranium deposits with similarities in geological setting, mineralogy and age data between South China and Korea, and can also be expected to help solve the source problems related to high uranium concentrations in some groundwater occurring in the granitic terrane.

  • Dalvik is a virtual machine (VM) that is designed to run Java-based Android applications. A trace-based just-in-time (JIT) compilation technique is currently employed to improve performance of the Dalvik VM. However, due to runtime compilation overhead, the trace-based JIT compiler provides only a few simple optimizations. Moreover, because each trace contains only a few instructions, the trace-based JIT compiler inherently exploits fewer optimization and parallelization opportunities than a method-based JIT compiler that compiles method-by-method. So we propose a new method-based JIT compiler, named DEX2C, in order to improve performance by finding more opportunities for both optimization and parallelization in Android applications. We employ C code as an intermediate product in order to find more optimization opportunities by using the GNU C Compiler (GCC), and we will detect parallelism by using the Intel C/C++ parallel compiler and the AESOP compiler in our future work. In this paper, we introduce our DEX2C compiler, which dynamically translates Dalvik bytecodes (DEX) into C code with method granularity. We also describe a new method-based JIT interface in the Dalvik VM for the DEX2C compiler. Our experiment results show that our compiler and its interface achieve significant performance improvement by up to 15.2 times and 3.7 times on average, in Element Benchmark, and up to 2.8 times for FFT in Smartbench.

  • In the early 20'c, scientific thoughts make a change the absolute and separate concept of space-time into relative concept of continual entity; a kind of ideal world. It suggests that the meaning of geometry as absolute truth with which has endowed human beings would changed to a relative meaning of accumulation in intellectual work on 'nature'. This cognitive changes appeared into absolute arts in 20'c like Cubism, Superematism or Constructivism. De Stijl movement which had recepted the relative concepts like Einstein's 'theory of relativity' as a developed thought from Newton-Cartesian cognition on the world. Abstration would be adequate method for expressing the dynamics and interrelationship between forms and for giving values to indivisual elements in a compositiov. This method had appeared Modern architectural form, as a common framework. The expression characteristics of geometrical design in Deconstructive and Experimental architecture were summerized in four features through the results of the analysis. First, the relation of architectural element and intertextuality is expressed in discontinuation of context and refusal of functional building. Second, the concept of trace expresses as connection of place, decomposing of excavation of trace, trace of axis, trace of fragments. Third, anti-gravity expression is there to express of open cubic, to outgrow of rectangular system, to outgrow of volume, to separate of ground connectiov. Fourth, the complex composition of abstracted geometric form is these to abstracted geometry about indefinite shape, to layer through the overlap and collage, to de-meaning and amusement of form through the pursuit of uncertainty, to indeterminate of formal meaning through operation and composition of similar form cause to the diverse of meaning.

  • Kilauea volcano's summit area was formed by continuous ind/or sporadic eruption activities for several hundreds years. In this study, we mainly focused on the trace elements characteristics through systematic sample rocks erupted from 1790 to September of 1982. Under the microscope it can be observed some main minerals such as olivine, clinopyroxene. and plagioclase with minor opaque minerals including Cr-spinel and ilmenite. Zr, V, Y, Ti elements show incompatible activities with MgO while Ni, Cr, Co elements show highly compatible properties. Elements like as Ba, Rb, Th, Sr, Nd are highly incompatible to show positive trends with $K_2O$. In the REE diagram LREE is more enriched than HREE suggesting typical Oceanic Island Basalt(OIB) type. It can be suggested that Sr have an effect on the fractionation of plagioclase from the kink in the $K_2O$ variation diagram. Y/Ho ratio diagram shows there was no fluids effect in the historical Kilauea volcano but Zr/Hf ratio diagram shows a significant difference between Kilauea lavas and PuuOo lavas. There are distinctive changes of trace element contents showing in particular abrupt changes of temporal variations between 1924 and 1954. Moreover, PuuOo lavas which had been erupted since 1983 follow these decreasing trends of trace element variation. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that these abrupt changes of trace elements trends result from the huge collapse geological event which formed Halemaumau crater in 1924 causing contamination effects of crustal contents into magma chamber and from the changes of parental magma composition injected into Kilauea volcano's summit magma reservoir.

  • Crippling stress and failure behavior of Z-section graphite/epoxy composite laminated stringers are investigated by the nonlinear finite element method. Stringers are idealized using 9-node laminated shell element. The complete unloading model is introduced into the finite element method for the progressive failure analysis. A modified Riks method is used to trace the post-failure equilibrium path after local buckling. Finite element results are validated with previous experimental results. The results show that the most important parameter affecting the crippling stress of Z-section stringers is the flange width. In terms of stacking sequence. the highest cripping stress is found at the stringer with $[{\pm}45/0/90]s$ lamination.

  • The resonance ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS) system with angular reflectron type time-of-flight mass spectrometer (AREF-TOFMS) has been developed and characterized. The system is applied for the ultratrace determination of Pb element. The 2-color 3-photon laser ionization scheme is adopted for the study and the mass resolution of the system is determined as T/ΔT=1680. The calibration curve for Pb is obtained in the range of 100 ppb to 0.01 ppb by using standard solutions. The minimal amount of detection for the present RIMS system is determined as less than 100 femtograms (10-13 gram).
