The definition of the Dual system is that the total seismic force resistance is to be provided by the combination of the moment frame and the shear walls or braced frames in proportion to their stiffness and the moment frame shall be capable of resisting at least 25% of the design force in Korean Building Code 2005 (KBC 2005). But, the definition of moment frame is ambiguous whether the moment frame include the imaginary columns in the shear wall (Case I) or include only the columns outside the shear wall (Case II). 60-story RC building was designed as dual system for Case I and Case II, and the required strength and reinforcement are compared. Moment and axial capacity of the shear wall of Case II decreased about 5% due to the absence of the column in the shear wall. The requirement of upper and bottom reinforcement of slab in Case II increased 13% and 40%, respectively, when compared to those of Case I. The required longitudinal reinforcement in columns for Case II is about 1.5 times larger than that of Case I.

The purpose of this study is to develop a reasonable design for transverse confinement reinforcement considering ductility and required transverse confinement reinforcement of RC bridge columns. In order to develop relationships between the curvature ductility and the displacement ductility, the analysis for total 21,600 columns using the computer program NARCC have been carried out for parametric studies. Based on the results from the parametric studies, a correlation equation between the curvature ductility and the displacement ductility was developed. In addition, an equation for calculating the required transverse confinement reinforcement based on ductility demand was developed for seismic design of RC bridge columns. The equations proposed by this study will provide more reasonable and more effective design guidelines for performance-based seismic design of RC bridge columns.

Generally, when the stability of the geosynthetic reinforced soil slopes is analyzed, the required tensile forces of each reinforcement layers are calculated from total reinforcement forces which are necessary to retain the equilibrium state of slip mass in which the slip surfaces are assumed to be a linear or bilinear. It is assumed that the reinforcement forces are increased or constant with depth. However, according to the instrumented field data and laboratory model test results, the maximum tensile strain of reinforcement in a reinforced soil slope is developed in a certain elevation, not a bottom of the slope. In the concept of reinforced soil, postulated failure surfaces are the traces of the position in which the reinforcement tensile forces are maximum in the layer, and the reinforcement tensile forces are related to the stress state on the postulated failure surface. Therefore, in this study, based on the distribution of normal stress on the slip surface, a new method for the evaluation of required tensile forces is suggested and a number of the instrumented field data are analyzed by newly suggested method. As a result, it is shown that the newly suggested method produces relatively accurate reinforcement tension forces.
The KCI-12 and ACI 318-14 design codes limit the maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement to prevent concrete compressive crushing before the yielding of shear reinforcement. The maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement is limited to 420 MPa in the ACI 318-14 design code, while limited to 500 MPa in the KCI-12 design code. A total of eight post-tensioning prestressed concrete beams with high strength shear reinforcement were tested to observe the shear behavior of PSC beams and the applicability of the high strength reinforcement was thus assessed. In the all PSC beam specimens that used stirrups greater than maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement required by the ACI 318-14 design code, the shear reinforcement reached their yield strains. The observed shear strength of tested eight PSC beams was greater than the calculated ones by the KCI-12 design codes. In addition, the diagonal crack width of all specimens at the service load was smaller than the crack width required by the ACI 224 committee. The experimental and analytical results indicate that the limitation on the yield strength of shear reinforcement in the ACI 318-14 design code is somewhat under-estimated and needs to be increased for high strength concrete. Also the application of high strength materials to PSC is available with respect to strength and serviceability.

Roll forming process is a sheet metal forming process where the forming occurs with rolls in several steps, often from an undeformed sheet to a product ready to use. And each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine operates a particular role in making up the required final cross-section. This process used to many industry manufactures and recently apply to automotive industry. This study, FEM simulation applied bumper reinforcement using SHAPE-RF software and analyzed about total effective strain, longitudinal strain, thickness according to the roll-pass.
Purpose: Laparoscopic gastrectomy is accepted as a standard treatment for patients with early gastric cancer in Korea, Japan, and China. However, duodenal stump leakage remains a fatal complication after gastrectomy. We conducted a prospective phase II study to evaluate the safety of the new technique of laparoscopic reinforcement suture (LARS) on the duodenal stump. Materials and Methods: The estimated number of patients required for this study was 100 for a period of 18 months. Inclusion criteria were histologically proven gastric adenocarcinoma treated with laparoscopic distal or total gastrectomy and Billroth II or Roux-en-Y reconstruction. The primary endpoint was the incidence of duodenal stump leakage within the first 30 postoperative days. The secondary endpoints were early postoperative outcomes until discharge. Results: One hundred patients were enrolled between February 2016 and March 2017. The study groups consisted of 65 male and 35 female patients with a mean age (years) of 62.3. Of these, 63 (63%) patients had comorbidities. The mean number of retrieved lymph nodes was 38. The mean operation time was 145 minutes including 7.8 minutes of mean LARS time. There was no occurrence of duodenal stump leakage. Thirteen complications occurred, with one case of reoperation for splenic artery rupture and one case of mortality. Conclusions: Based on the results of this prospective phase II study, LARS can be safely performed in a short operation period without development of duodenal stump leakage. A future randomized prospective controlled trial is required to confirm the surgical benefit of LARS compared to non-LARS.

The Inchon International Airport site was formed by reclaimed soil from the sea. The average thickness of soft soil Is about 5 m and most of soft soils are normally consolidated or slightly over consolidated. There are many box culverts which are being constructed under the runways in the airfield. Sometimes, differential settlement can be occurred in the adjacent of box culvert or underground structures at the top layer of runway Soil compaction at very near to the structure is not easy all the time. Thus, one layer of geogrid was placed at the bottom of lean concrete layer for the concrete paved runway and at the middle of cement stabilized sub-base course layer for the asphalt paved runway. The length of geogrid reinforcement is 5m from the end of box culvert for both sides. The extended length of geogrid was 2m from the end of backfill soil in the box culvert. The tensile strength tests of geogrid were conducted for make sure the chemical compatibility with cement treated sub-base material. The location of geogrid placement for the concrete paved runway was evaluated. The construction damage to the geogrid could be occurred. Because the cement treated sub-base layer or lean concrete was spread by the finisher. The magnitude of tensile strength reduction was 1.16%~1.90% due to the construction damage and the ultimate tensile strength is maintained with the specification required. Total area of geogrid placement in this project is about 50,000 $m^2$.

In this study, geotextiles was applied on the selected track-bed, which is relatively economical and efficient way to prevent the problem of mud-pumping and settlement. Field testing sections from Mock-haeng to Dong-ryang in the Chung-buk lines in Korea were selected to investigate the state of track and roadbed. And three places were chosen among 1,700 spots where mud-pumping was frequently occurred and maintenance required. At the curved section with radius of 500m between Mock-haeng and Dong-ryang, we divided this testing site into 5 section and 4 different types of geotextile were installed and left the last section with no reinforcement. Total length of the test site was 200m and individual length of each site was 40 m. In order to understand the state and the strength of prepared roadbed, stiffness and physical properties of the roadbed soil were evaluated and analyzed. Also, after the installation, mud-pumping, settlement of elastic or plastic sleeper, failure of track, wheel-loads, lateral force and earth pressures were investigated.

This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the behavior and response of high-strength material (HSM) reinforced concrete (RC) columns under combined high-axial and cyclic-increasing lateral loads. All the columns use high-strength concrete ($f_c{^{\prime}}$=100MPa) and high-yield strength steel ($f_y$=685MPa and $f_y$=785MPa) for both longitudinal and transverse reinforcements. A total of four full-scale HSM columns with amount of transverse reinforcement equal to 100% more than that required by earthquake resistant design provisions of ACI-318 were tested. The key differences among those four columns are the spacing and configuration of transverse reinforcements. Two different constant axial loads, i.e. 60% and 30% of column axial load capacity, were combined with cyclically-increasing lateral loads to impose reversed curvatures in the columns. Test results show that columns under 30% of axial load capacity behaved much more ductile and had higher lateral deformational capacity compared to columns under the 60% of axial load capacity. The columns using closer transverse reinforcement spacing have slightly higher ductility than columns with larger spacing.
