A Kalman Filter based Predictive Direct Power Control Scheme to Mitigate Source Voltage Distortions in PWM Rectifiers

  • In this paper, a predictive direct power control (DPC) method based on a Kalman filter is presented for three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifiers to improve the performance of rectifiers with source voltages that are distorted with harmonic components. This method can eliminate the most significant harmonic components of the source voltage using a Kalman filter algorithm. In the process of predicting the future real and reactive power to select an optimal voltage vector in the predictive DPC, the proposed method utilizes source voltages filtered by a Kalman filter, which can mitigate the adverse effects of distorted source voltages on control performance. As a result, the quality of the source currents synthesized using the PWM rectifier is improved, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) values are reduced, even under distorted source voltages.

  • This paper compares the measurement values of harmonics to the analysis results in railroads testing system. Therefore, in this paper, new program to calculate THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) and measuring system of harmonics are developed. The harmonic measurement point is PCC(Point of Common Coupling), the primary side(154kV) of scott transformer, and the analysis is performed based on real KEPCO system data. As a result of this study, it is possible to present basic data and informations about harmonic problems which can be occurred in the future commercial railroad systems.

  • The main drawback of parallel type active power filters (APFs) is the large capacity required for harmonic compensation. This paper evaluates the APF capacity requirement for harmonic/reactive power compensation for thyristor converter load. Theoretically achievable maximum power factor under partial load is evaluated. it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced by deliberately limiting the peak current, while maintaining the filtering performance with an acceptable total harmonic current level. the minimum capacity requirement of APF with current limiting is evaluated as a function of the firing angle of thyristor converter and short circuit ratio(SCR).

  • This paper presents the on-line current controller tuning method of grid-connected inverter using PSO(particle swarm optimization) technique for minimizing the harmonic current. Synchronous frame PI current regulator is commonly used in most distributed generation. However, due to the source voltage distortion, specially in weak AC power system, current may contain large harmonic components, which increase THD(total harmonic distortion) and deteriorates power quality. Therefore, some tuning method is necessary to improve response of current controller. This paper used the PSO technique to tune the current regulator and through simulation and experiments, usefulness of the tuning method has been verified. Especially in simulating the tuning process, ASM(average switching model) of inverter is used to shorten execution time.

  • To predict the background level of harmonics produced by household appliances, information on the site, capacity, and usage pattern of these loads arenecessary. However, as household appliances are distributed widely and various in type, it is difficult to know these kinds of information accurately. This paper presents a method for estimation of background level of harmonics produced by distributed harmonic sources with readily available data. Large industrial customers are excluded from this study. In this paper, customers are grouped into three classes, i.e. residential, commercial, and industrial. Typical customers for each class are assumed and characteristics of their equipments are modeled. As the proposed method does not require harmonic measurement, it can be employed to forecast voltage total harmonic distribution (VTHD) in the future. An illustrative example is described.

  • 본 논문에서는 V55 마이크로프로세서로 제어되는 반브릿지 인버터를 사용하여 영구 콘덴서형 단상유도 전동기의 가변속 구동에 대해 연구하였다. Patel의 알고리즘을 이용한 SHE(Selected Harmonic Elimination) PWM 구동방식에 의한 V/F 제어로 출력전압의 고조파분을 제거할 수 있으며, 속도의 제어 범위가 넓어짐을 알 수 있었다. 제안한 방법을 시뮬레이션과 실험의 결과로 입증하였다.

  • In phase controlled rectifier(PCR), harmonica are changed according to the variation of a firing angle. These harmonics are supplied with the input of the inverter. And then, inverter output comes about the harmonics combined with the switching frequency of the inverter. Hence the efficiency of the induction motor ia decreased by the harmonic of the inverter output. In this paper, it analyzed about an effect of these harmonics ia analyzed by a computer simulation. The total harmonic distortion (THD) in the case of PCR containing the ripple was considerably larger than THO of the DC source. Therefore, it was proved that the firing angle variation of PCR had to be limited.

  • With the development of technology, a new class of smaller and more sensitive electrical systems have emerged, requiring higher quality power system. Improving the quality of the power system requires removing harmonics as much as possible to ensure better efficiency. We should first collect information on what harmonic frequencies are included in the current power system to remove the harmonics. In this paper, a new frequency analysis algorithm is introduced for a three-phase and a 1-phase power system. MTE PRS 600.3 is used to generate any harmonics to ensure that the algorithm performs well. Typing any harmonics on the Windows GUI program shows the analyzed result from the board developed for the algorithm.

전기추진선박의 토크 및 속도변화에 따른 전력변환장치의 고조파 분석 (Harmonic Analysis of Power Conversion System for Torque and Speed Changing of Electric Propulsion Ship)

  • 근래에 전기추진선박의 필요성이 대두되고 있으며 특수선박을 시작으로 건조가 증가되고 있는 실정이다. 하지만 선박은 운항 환경에 따라 추진기의 출력 토크 및 속도의 변동이 심하므로 전기추진시스템에 큰 영향을 미친다. 대표적으로 출 입항시, 정상상태의 대양 항해시, 황천 항해시에 선박 추진시스템의 토크 및 속도 변동이 짧지만 빈번하게 변동하게 되므로 전기추진시스템의 전력변환장치에서 전류 및 전압파형에 고조파가 크게 포함되어 발전기, 변압기, 컨버터, 인버터 및 추진전동기에 손실의 증가, 기기의 열화 및 토크 맥동 발생 등의 좋지 않은 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 연구에서는 선박의 운항 환경에 따른 추진시스템의 전류 및 전압파형에 포함되는 고조파 함유율을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 저속 영역에서의 잦은 속도 및 부하 변동에 따라서 전동기에 공급되는 전류 및 전압 파형에 포함된 총 고조파 왜형율과 전동기의 토크 맥동이 증가됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

Advanced Static Over-modulation Scheme using Offset Voltages Injection for Simple Implementation and Less Harmonics

  • In this paper, a novel static overmodulation scheme (OVM) for space-vector PWM (SVPWM) is proposed. The proposed static OVM scheme uses the concept of adding offset voltages in linear region as well as overmodulation region to fully utilize DC-link voltage. By employing zero sequence voltage injection, the proposed scheme reduces procedures for achieving SVPWM such as complicated gating time calculation. In addition, this paper proposes a stepwise discontinuous angle movement in high modulation region in order to reduce Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The validity of the proposed scheme is verified through theoretical analysis and experimental results.
