Feeding habits of Liobagrus andersoni were investigated in a tributary of the Namhan river from October 2005 to October 2006. L. andersoni was considered as an entirely bottom-feeding carnivore based on it's stomach contents. Because, the diet of L. andersoni was mainly aquatic insect such as Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Diptera. The most important prey was Ephemeroptera species. Small sized individuals (<50 mm SL) fed mainly on small prey organisms such as Baetis. However, larger Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera were heavily selected with increasing fish size. The relative proportion of food items was changed with season. The prey materials were more various at summer and autumn than winter. L. andersoni eaten Ephemeroptera intensively in spring and summer but eaten Trichoptera and Chironomidae in winter. Feeding activity of L. andersoni was started after sunset and was most active at midnight, but the activity was reduced after sunrise and during day period. So it was considered that L. andersoni was a nocturnal stalkers.
The objective of this study was to provide basic information for selecting the right timing and the right place of erosion control of stream on Gyeongsangnam-do. In order to achieve this objective, a total of 526 erosion control dams and 230 mountains stream conservation facilities on the constructed places and construction planned places for the erosion control were investigated on site, forest physiognomy, and hydrologic conditions. The erosion control dams and mountain stream conservation facilities were mostly constructed in the area, which has the sedimentary rock, 200-400m of altitude, a slope of 21~30°, and II of landslide hazard map. Among the forest environmental factors, it was only similar to the construction frequency in the areas that have small diameter class, III age class. Also, we investigated the hydrological environmental factors that determine the size and numbers of erosion control dam. The places constructed to the highest frequency were below 50ha in the area, 2.1~4.0km/㎢ of drainage density, longitudinal water system, 61~90mm of maximum precipitation per hour, and 201~300mm of day maximum precipitation. As the results, the sites and floodgate conditions between the constructed places and stream conservation facilities for the erosion control showed to be very similar. Therefore, these results indicate that the erosion control of the stream of the areas, which have the disruption of mountain peaks and the high erosion risk areas, should be used on both the erosion control dam and stream conservation facilities.
PacBio's long-read sequencing technologies can be successfully used for a complete bacterial genome assembly using recently developed non-hybrid assemblers in the absence of second-generation, high-quality short reads. However, standardized procedures that take into account multiple pre-existing second-generation sequencing platforms are scarce. In addition to Illumina HiSeq and Ion Torrent PGM-based genome sequencing results derived from previous studies, we generated further sequencing data, including from the PacBio RS II platform, and applied various bioinformatics tools to obtain complete genome assemblies for five bacterial strains. Our approach revealed that the hierarchical genome assembly process (HGAP) non-hybrid assembler resulted in nearly complete assemblies at a moderate coverage of ~75x, but that different versions produced non-compatible results requiring post processing. The other two platforms further improved the PacBio assembly through scaffolding and a final error correction.

This study was carried out to analyze the occurrence characteristics and the influence of forest environment factors on the debris flow of 3 national parks in korea. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows; The total number of debris flow occurrence was 125 areas. The average length of the debris flow scar was 144m, average width was 20m. And the average area and sediment were $2,854m^2$ and $3,959m^3$ respectively. The factors influencing the debris flow were highly occurred in Metamorphic rock, mixed forest type. And also, slope gradient was $30{\sim}35^{\circ}$, aspect was NE, altitude was over 1,000m, vertical and cross slope was concave (凹), soil depth was below 15cm, stream order was 0 order. The variables of cross slope (complex), deciduous tree, soil depth (over 46cm), cross slope (concave), mixed forest type and altitude (801~1200m) in correlation analysis were significant at 1 % level. The landslide of high mountain area highly tend to change the debris flow in stream bed of torrent. The debris flow in national parks mainly occurred in high mountain area with long ridge and steep slope.
The karyotype analysis of Liobagrus somjinensis, an endemic Korean freshwater fish with restricted waters and a new species of torrent catfish was carried out from nine females and eight males of Somjingang River, Sikjeong-dong, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do, Korea. The diploid number of chromosomes was 42, and its karyotype was composed of 28 metacentrics and 14 submetacentrics; 84 FN (fundamental number). Polyploidy and sex dimorphism were not observed in the present species. The chromosome number of L. somjinensis was the same as its congeners, but there was a difference in karyotypes.
In countries with FMD vaccination, as in Korea, typical clinical signs do not appear, and even in FMD positive cases, it is difficult to isolate the FMDV or obtain whole genome sequence. To overcome this problem, more rapid and simple NGS system is required to control FMD in Korea. FMDV (O/Boeun/ SKR/2017) RNA was extracted and sequenced using Ion Torrent's bench-top sequencer with amplicon panel with optimized bioinformatics pipelines. The whole genome sequencing of raw data generated data of 1,839,864 (mean read length 283 bp) reads comprising a total of 521,641,058 (≥Q20 475,327,721). Compared with FMDV (GenBank accession No. MG983730), the FMDV sequences in this study showed 99.83% nucleotide identity. Further study is needed to identify these differences. In this study, fast and robust methods for benchtop next generation sequencing (NGS) system was developed for analysis of Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) whole genome sequences.
As embedded system grows in size and complexity, the importance of the technique for dynamic memory allocation has increased. The objective of this paper is to measure the performance of dynamic memory allocation by varying both hardware and software design parameters for embedded systems. Unlike torrent performance evaluation studies that have presumed the single threaded system with single address spate without OS support, our study adopts realistic environment where the embedded system runs on Linux OS. This paper contains the experimental performance analyses of dynamic memory allocation method by investigating the effects of each software layer and some hardware design parameters. Our quantitative results tan be used to help system designers design high performance, low power embedded systems.
The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of a mixture of functional oils (Essential, Oligo Basics Agroind. Ltda) on performance response of chickens challenged with coccidiosis and the determination of apparent metabolizable energy (AME), nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn), the coefficients of protein and ether extract digestibility and intestinal morphology of broilers fed with diets containing Essential. In Exp. 1, a completely randomized design (CRD) was used, with one control diet without Essential inclusion with coccidiosis (Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria maxima, and Eimeria tenella) challenged birds and two different inclusion rates of Essential (1.5 kg/ton and 2 kg/ton) with coccidiosis-challenged and non-challenged birds for each inclusion rate, using 10 replicates and 50 birds per experimental unit. After 7 d of coccidiosis challenge, the livability was approximately 10% lower (p<0.05) for the control group. Intestinal lesion scores were lower (p<0.05) in the anterior intestine and the cecum for the chickens supplemented. Feed efficiency and growth rate were improved in birds supplemented with Essential (p<0.05) before the coccidiosis challenge and during the first 7 d post infection. In Exp. 2, a CRD was used, with one control diet without Essential inclusion and one diet with inclusion of Essential (1.5 kg/ton), using nine replications and 33 chicks per pen. The diets with Essential yielded approximately 4% higher AME (p = 0.003) and $AME_n$ (p = 0.001). Essential supplementation increased villus height in the jejunum on d 14 (p<0.05). Villus height:crypt depth ratio for the supplemented birds was larger (p<0.05) in the jejunum on d 7, larger (p<0.05) in the jejunum and ileum on d 14. In conclusion, these functional oils improved the energy utilization and the livability and decreased lesions caused by coccidiosis in supplemented birds.
This experiment surveys ecological and morphological phase on Prasiola sp. in the mountain torrent of Chodang-ri, Keunduck-myon, Samchuck-gun, Kangwon-do, Korea from November 1968 through January 1970 and the results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. The temperature of the surface water was 12.4$\pm$2.3$^{\circ}C$, and pH was 7.25$\pm$0.2. 2. The external forms of thallus are very variable, but its basic form likely lanceolated and ovated. 3. The length of thallus is 0.6cm-8.8cm (3.6$\pm$1.72cm), and the width, 0.2cm-5.5cm(1.7$\pm$0.92cm). (The inside of the parentheses the average for 500 individuals). 4. It is observed that thallus at the time of formation of a monospore is a monostratum cell whose thickness is 21$\pm$3.2$\mu$. 5. Thickness of thallus at the transveres section at the time of heteroplanogametes formation is 29.9$\pm$2.2$\mu$, and that of the female gametes cell is 6.3$\pm$1.7$\times$6.3$\pm$0.8$\mu$, and that of the male gametes cell is 2.8$\pm$0.6$\times$28.1$\pm$1.1$\mu$. 6. As for growth, it begins with apical growth, followed by marginal growth. It seems to grow, through cell division when microsopical papillae are produced in growth line cell of marginal rigion thus by fusioning microscopical papillae. 7. The two kinds of thallus, one produced from a monospore and other from a planozygotes, are both haplonts and observed as n-3. 8. It seems that a thallus sprouts in April and increases its number through a asexual reproduction by a monospore and begins a sexual reproduction in November by forming gametes. 9. Female gametes are produced 16 from one thallus cell, whose structure shows 8 cells in the surface view and 4 layers in transverse section. Male gametes are produced 128 from one thallus cell, 16 cells surface, 8 layers in transverse section.
The anatomical study of the olfactory organ in Liobagrus somjinensis, being related to the habitat environment and ecological habit, was carried out using a stereomicroscopy and digital camera. The paired olfactory organs are situated at the dorsal part of the snout, and consisted of two opening (anterior and posterior nostrils) and the olfactory chamber. The tubular anterior nostril is located between the tip of upper lip and the nasal barbel. The posterior nostril flat to the surface is adjacent entirely to the basement of the nasal barbel. The olfactory chamber has a rosette structure with 22~24 lamellae of linguiform, arranged transversely and radially from the medium raphe. These results may prove that L. somjinensis is dependent on olfaction, related to the hiding, the feeding and the nocturnal lifestyle in rapids.
