  • Most of all, DTC drive is very simple in its implementation because it needs only two hysteresis comparator and switching vector table for both flux and torque control. The switching strategy of a conventional direct torque control scheme which is based on hysteresis comparator results in a variable switching frequency which depends on the speed, flux, stator voltage and the hysteresis of the comparator. The amplitude of hysteresis band greatly influences on the drive performance such as flux and torque ripple and inverter switching frequency. In this paper the influence of the amplitudes of flux and torque hysteresis bands and sampling time of control program on the torque and flux ripples are investigated. Simulation results confirm the superiority of the DTC under the proposed method over the conventional DTC.

  • This paper presents a characteristic analysis of switched reluctance motor (SRM) considering switching control method and DC link voltage ripple by using time-stepped voltage source finite element method in which the magnetic field is combined with drive circuit. We also examine the influence of freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripple on the performance of the SRM such as torque ripples and radial force on the surface of the teeth. The freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripples must be taken into account to predict the performance of SRM.

  • In this paper, a dc link voltage variable inverter system is proposed, which consists of a two-switch buck-boost converter and a four-switch inverter. In addition, as the current and torque ripples are generated by a voltage difference between back EMF and dc link voltage, these ripples could be reduced according to the controlled dc-link voltage according to the motor speed. The validity of the proposed inverter is verified by informative simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of a brushless DC motor (BLDC) and taking into consideration the freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripple using a time-stepped voltage source finite element method. By comparing with the experimental results, we show that the proposed computational method is useful for the analysis and design of a BLDC motor. We also examine the influence of freewheeling diodes and DC link voltage ripples on the performance of a BLDC motor such as torque ripples and radial force on the surface of the teeth.

  • This paper deals with the parallel operation of inverters. To enlarge capacity of inverter system and reduce current ripples on inverter output side, two or more inverters are operated in parallel. Up to now six-step inverters and sinusoidal PWM inverters are considered in parallel operation, but using space-vector PWM inverters we can get many advantages of reducing ripple current energy and torque ripple and so on. As we can choose effective voltage vectors more freely than single operation, inverter output current ripples can be reduced by shifting beginning and end point of switching state back and forth.

  • This paper presents an adaptive control strategy for the speed control of a four-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) in automotive applications. The main objective is to minimize the torque ripples, despite the unstructured uncertainties, time-varying parameters and external load disturbances. The bound of perturbations is not required to be known in the developing of the proposed adaptive-based control method. In order to achieve a smooth control effort, some properties are incorporated and the proposed control algorithm is constructed using the Lyapunov theorem where the closed-loop stability and robust tracking are ensured. The effectiveness of the proposed controller in rejecting high perturbed load torque with smooth control effort is verified with comparing of an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) and validated with experimental results.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive study result on reducing commutation torque ripples generated in brushless dc motor drives with only a single dc-link current sensor provided. In brushless dc motor drives with only a single current sensor, the commutation torque ripple suppression that is practically effective in low speed as well as high speed regions has not been reported. A proposed commutation compensation technique based on deadbeat dc-link current controller takes a closed loop control scheme and a parameter insensitive property. The proposed control method is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • A novel control scheme for a Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) drive is described. The control scheme which is to increase torque, to decrease torque ripples and easy to commutate is suggested. The conditions for high torque drive which includes flat-topped phase current and voltage control arc analyzed and adopted in this control scheme. Flat-topped current is achived via dc-link voltage control. The suggested control system was tested to verify this suggestion.

  • This paper presents a method to reduce commutation torque ripples occurred during commutation in brushless do motor drives using a single DC-link current sensor. In brushless dc motor drives with a single dc current sensor instead of 3-phase line current sensors, it is noted that dc-link current sensor cannot give any information corresponding to the motor currents during line current commutation intervals. A new technique to resolve such a problem is dealt with based on a deadbeat current control in which motor armature voltage command is computed from a dc-link current reference, an actual current and counter emf voltage. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the torque ripple significantly.
