  • This paper presents an improved switching selection method for the direct torque control (DTC) of five-phase induction motors (IMs). The proposed method is conducted using optimal switching selection. A five-phase inverter has 32 voltage vectors which are divided into 30 nonzero voltage vectors and two zero voltage vectors. The magnitudes of the voltage vectors consist of large, medium, and small voltage vectors. In addition, these vectors are related to the torque response and torque ripple. When a large voltage vector is selected in a drive system, the torque response time decreases with an increased torque ripple. On the other hand, when a small voltage vector is selected, the torque response time and torque ripple increase. As a result, this paper proposes an optimal voltage vector selection method for improved DTC of a five-phase induction machine depending on the situation. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

  • This paper discusses methods for the torque ripple and noise reduction of DC motors for automotive air-conditioning based on electromagnetic field analysis. The target of the motor is a blower motor, and to reduce cogging torque and the torque ripple, the optimum model was selected by deforming the brush or commutator shape. In addition, to reduce the cogging torque, the model design was carried out by applying the skew method and the magnetization method of a magnet to the rotor. For optimization, the shape, material, and drive system of the motor were selected using an electromagnetic field as the analysis tool, and the method of reducing the cogging torque was applied to 4-pole, 12- and 13-slot motors considering the mechanical part. Lastly, this paper confirmed thatthemethod, which proposed how much noise, cogging torque, and vibration are reduced, improves through practical analysis.

  • The single phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) has many merits in practical appliance because it has simple operating drive and control system, very high energy density per unit volume comparing with three phase SRM. But it has also problems to need a starting device and to generate the torque ripple. One of the major problems is a torque ripple which causes increased undesirable acoustic noise and speed ripple. This paper describes an approach to determine a rotor type to minimize the torque ripple.

  • Magnetic gears are magnetically coupled to the input side and the output side of the rotary machine to transmit power without mechanical contact. The magnetic gear consists of an inner rotor, an outer rotor and pole pieces. Torque ripple occurs due to the difference in reluctance between the two rotors and the pole pieces during power transmission. Torque ripple is a cause of the noise and vibration of the rotary machine, so it is necessary to minimize it. In this paper, we propose a shape that cuts the corner of the pole piece and apply a fillet to reduce torque ripple. We used a two-dimensional finite element analysis method to compare and analyze the torque ripple of the magnetic gears according to the change of the fillet parameters and to find the pole piece shape with excellent torque ripple.

  • This paper presents a current control strategy to reduce torque ripple of Brushless DC Motor during con)mutation. The torque ripple is mainly caused by the inequality in the rate of change between rising current and decaying one during commutation. And also it is influenced by the shape of real back EMF Therefore, in the proposed control strategy, considering real back EMF a compensation voltage is generated to equalize the rate of change in these commutating currents. And then, by providing the compensation voltage during commutation, the torque ripple can be reduced. The simulation md experimental results verify that the proposed method can reduce the torque and the current ripples significantly.

  • In this study, we describe the design method of a Brush-less DC (BLDC) motor with delta winding connection. After designing delta winding connection model with the $60^{\circ}$ flat-top region of the Back Electro-Motive Force (BEMF), an ideal current source analysis and a voltage source analysis, with a 6-step control, were conducted primarily employing Finite Element Method. In addition, as a current controller, we considered the Current Regulator with PI controller using Simulink for the comparison of torque characteristics. When the input current is controlled, the switching regions and reference signals are determined by means of the phase BEMF zero-crossing point. In reality, the input current variation depends on the inductance as well as input voltage, and it causes a torque ripple after all. Therefore, each control method considered in this research showed different torque ripple results. Based on the comparison, the causes of the torque ripple have been verified in detail.

  • In Conventional Combined Vector and Direct Controls (VC-DTC) of induction motor, stator current is very rich in harmonic components. It leads to high torque ripple of induction motor in high and low speed region. To solve this problem, a control method based on the concept of fuzzy logic approach is used. The control scheme proposed uses stator current error as variable. Through the fuzzy logic controller rules, the choice of voltage space vector is optimized and then torque and speed are controlled successfully with a less ripple level in torque response, which improve the system's performance. Simulation results trough MATLAB/SIMULINK${(R)}$ software gave results that justify the claims.

  • PMSM drives are widely used in the industrial and residential applications because of high efficiency, high power density and high performance. For better performance of PMSM, however, torque ripples should be reduced. This paper investigates a reduction of torque ripple due to the unsinusoidal flux linkage produced by the shapes of stator slot and magnetic pole. To minimize torque ripple, a simple flux estimator is proposed. This method interatively compensates the distributed flux linkage from an error between the measured and estimated currents. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • Torque ripple control of brushless DC motor has long been the main issue of the servo drive systems in which the speed fluctuation, vibration and acoustic noise need to be minimized. The vast majority of the methods for suppressing the torque ripple require the Fourier series analysis and either the iterative or least mean square minimization. In this paper, a novel approach based on the d-q-0 reference frame that achieves ripple-free torque control with maximum efficiency is presented. The proposed method optimizes the reference phase current waveforms including even the case of 3-phase unbalanced condition, and the motor winding currents are controlled to track the optimized current waveforms by the delta modulation technique. As a results, the proposed approach provides a simple and yet effectine means for obtaining the optimal motor excitation currents. The validity and applicability of the proposed control scheme are verified through simulations and experimental investigations.

  • In general, the realization of high performance brushless permanent magnet motors which are widely used in servo drive is focused on the linear control for ripple-free torque. This is also the main problem that should be solved in all AC motors including induction motor to achieve high performance control, and recent papers deal with this problem. In this paper, the novel optimal excitation scheme of brushless permanent magnet motor producing loss-minimized ripple-free torque based on the d-q-0 reference frame is presented including 3 phase unbalanced condition. The optimized phase current waveforms that are obtained by the proposed method can be a reference values and the motor winding currents are forced to track it by delta modulation technique. As a results, it can be shown that the proposed work can minimize the torque ripple by the optimal excitation current for brushless permanent magnet motor with any arbitrary phase back EMF waveform. Simulation and experimental results prove the validity and practical applications of the proposed control scheme.
