In order to enhance torque density of five-phase permanent magnetic synchronous motor with third harmonic injection for electric vehicles (EVs) applications, optimum seeking method for injection ratio of third harmonic was proposed adopting theoretical derivation and finite element analysis method, under the constraint of same amplitude for current and air-gap flux. By five-dimension space vector decomposition, the mathematic model in two orthogonal space plane, $d_1-q_1$ and $d_3-q_3$, was deduced. And the corresponding dual-plane vector control method was accomplished to independently control fundamental and third harmonic currents in each vector plane. A five-phase PMSM prototype with quasi-trapezoidal flux pattern and its fivephase voltage source inverter were designed. Also, the dual-plane vector control was digitized in a single XC3S1200E FPGA. Simulation and experimental results prove that using the proposed optimum seeking method, the torque density of five-phase PMSM is enhanced by 20%, without any increase of power converter capacity, machine size and iron core saturation.
Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is receiving increased attention for servo drive applications in recent years because of its high torque to inertia ratio, superior power density and high efficiency. Vector-controlled PMSM has the same operating characteristics as separately excited dc motor. The drive system of servo motor is requested to have an accurate response for the speed reference and a quick recovery for the disturbance such as load torque. However the dynamics of PMSM drive change greately by parameter variations. Morever, when the unkown and inaccessible disturbances are imposed on PMSM, the drive system is given a significant effect by them. As a result, the drive system with both a fast drive performance and a reduced sensitivity to parameter variations is requested. In this paper, the robust control system of PMSM with torque feedforward using load torque observer is presented. In the proposed system, load torque is estimated by the reduced order observer, and the robust control system against load torque variation is realized using the torque feedforward. Moreover, the design of speed controller with the torque observer is discussed. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective for suppression of parameter variations and load disturbance.

This study focuses on the effects of using open stator slots in an interior permanent magnet traction motor with a magnetic slot wedge design in order to increase the power density at its base speed. In addition, such a configuration reduces the torque ripple under field-weakening conditions. Five different wedge models were selected, each of which was evaluated using a finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the initial model, we designed magnetic slot wedges for maximum back-EMF and minimum cogging torque. In addition, the d-q axis inductance was slightly altered due to the magnetic slot wedges. Finally, we analyzed the performance of a traction machine under field weakening control. Moreover, we have outlined the requirements for an ideal magnetic slot wedge design.
This paper presents an improved torque predictive control (TPC) for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) using an indirect matrix converter (IMC). The IMC has characteristics such as a high power density and sinusoidal waveforms of the input-output currents. Additionally, this configuration does not have any DC-link capacitors. Due to these advantages of the IMC, it is used in various application field such as electric vehicles and railway cars. Recently, research on various torque control methods for PMSM drives using an IMC is being actively pursued. In this paper, an improved TPC method for PMSM drives using an IMC is proposed. In the improved TPC method, the magnitudes of the voltage vectors applied to control the torque and flux of the PMSM are adjusted depending on the PMSM torque control such as the steady state and transient response. Therefore, it is able to reduce the ripples of the output current and torque in the low-speed and high-speed load ranges. Additionally, the improved TPC can improve the dynamic torque response when compared with the conventional TPC. The effectiveness of the improved TPC method is verified by experimental results.
PMSM drives are widely used in the industrial and residential applications because of high efficiency, high power density and high performance. For better performance of PMSM, however, torque ripples should be reduced. This paper investigates a reduction of torque ripple due to the unsinusoidal flux linkage produced by the shapes of stator slot and magnetic pole. To minimize torque ripple, a simple flux estimator is proposed. This method interatively compensates the distributed flux linkage from an error between the measured and estimated currents. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation.

Transverse flux machine (TFM) has been considered as a promising driving machine especially at the low-speed applications because it has higher power density, torque and efficiency than the conventional electrical motors. However, it has complicated structure, large torque ripple and sometimes unbalanced magnetic force due to its inherent structure. This paper investigates the characteristics of torque ripple and unbalanced magnetic force of a rotatory two-phase TFM due to the teeth geometry by using the 3-dimensional finite element method, and it develops a rotatory two-phase TFM with herringbone teeth to reduce the torque ripple as well as to eliminate the unbalanced magnetic force.
Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has higher power density than other PM(permanent Magnet) machines due to reluctance torque in addition to magnetic torque, and the ratio of magnetic and reluctance torque has influences on motor characteristics such as input current, efficiency, power factor, etc. Therefore, this paper presents the output characteristics of IPMSM according to the ratio magnetic and reluctance torque of IPMSM and discuss the design strategy of IPMSM.
The BLDCM (Brushless DC Motor) characterized by linear torque to current, and speed to voltage has low acoustic noise, and fast dynamic response. Moreover, it has high power density with high proportion of torque to inertia in spite of small size drive. But, it produce torque ripple due to the motor inductance components in stator windings and back-EMF, when armature current is commutated. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the BLDCM to a precision servo drive system. In this paper is proposed to a new current control algorithm with using fourier series coefficients can minimize torque ripple due to the phase current commutation of BLDCM. Simulation and Experimental results prove the effectiveness the proposed algorithm through comparison with the conventional used unipolar PWM method.
Osseointegrated implants are used for the fixation of dental prosthesis with good long-term clinical results. In an attempt to improve the quantity and quality of the bone-implant interface, numerous implant modification have been used. Implants surface modifications have been used such as titanium-plasma sprayed, hydroxyapatite-coating, sandblasted, sandblasted and acid-etched, acid-etched. Rough surface implants have greater implant surface area and enhance the bone-implant interface and improve stabilization. The purpose of present study was to evaluate light microscopic and scanning microscopic examinations and removal torque value of newly developed calcium phosphate blast and acid-etched implant in the femur of rabbits. Titanium plasma sprayed(TPS) implant served as controls. After 12 weeks of healing of the femurs of 12 rabitts, the implant-containing segments of femur were removed on bloc and bone block including sections. Histologic examination and histomorphometric and removal torque values comparision were made for two implants. Obtained results are follows: 1. Newly developed calcium phosphate blasted and acid-etched implants were in close contact with bone under light microscopic examinations. 2. New implants showed mean bone-to implant contact 59.8%, whereas TPS implants showed mean bone-to implant contact 54.5% (statistically no difference p<0.05). 3. New implants showed mean bone density 56.7%, whereas TPS implants showed mean bone density 49.2% (statistically difference p<0.05). 4. New implants demonstrated mean removal torque values 40.5Ncm, whereas the mean removal torque values of TPS implants ranged 39.3Ncm. No statistical differences(p<0.05) were observed between two groups of implants nor was there any difference between the two implants at the clinical level.

In this paper, the design of BLDC (brushless direct current) motors based on torque and back-EMF equations was carried out to assess the application of the motor in concrete vibrators. The air gap flux density of the motor is an important parameter because the length of the motor and the size of the diameter are given. The air gap magnetic flux density was calculated through a simplified magnetic circuit, and basic design of the shape and dimensions of the motor were then determined by carrying out experiments based on torque, back-EMF, and air magnetic flux density equations. After setting the outer and inner diameters, stack lengths, and rated speed of the motor, a detailed design was performed by simulations using the finite element method by designating the diameter and thickness of the motor as the key parameters. The final design to satisfy the target torque and the lowest THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) was carried out along with a simulation.
