  • This paper presents neural load disturbance observer that used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gain by parameter estimator As a result, the response of PMSM follows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a neural deadbeat observer. To reduce of the noise effect, the post-filter, which is implemented by MA process, is proposed. The parameter compensator with RLSM(recursive least square method) parameter estimator is suggested to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. The proposed estimator is combined with a high performance neural torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system becomes a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. • In this paper, we propose a novel velocity ripple controller using phase compensation feedforward control. Velocity ripples result in many kinds of performance degradations in manufacturing machines, especially such as ultra-precision roll lathes. The generation of velocity ripple in constant velocity control comes from various causes, such as electrical torque ripples, mechanical worn out, inconsistent mass center, etc. Conventional researches about ripple is mainly for reducing torque ripple in actuator level, which is only one of reasons for velocity ripples, so in this study, we focus on eliminating velocity ripples in upper level controller using phase compensation feedforward controller. The proposed algorithm is composed of several modules, such as ripple extractor, phase adjuster and phase follower etc. The suggested algorithm can be easily extended, and it shows a superior performance in the experiments of ultra-precision roll lathes.

  • This paper presents external load disturbance compensation that used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gain by parameter estimator. As a result, the response of PMSM follows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a dead beat observer that is well-known method. However it has disadvantage such as a noise amplification effect. To reduce of the effect, the post-filter, which is implemented by MA process, is proposed. The parameter compensator with RLSM(recursive least square method) parameter estimator is suggested to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. Although RLSM estimator is one of the most effective methods for online parameter identification, it is difficult to obtain unbiased result in this application. It is caused by disturbed dynamic model with external torque. The proposed RLSM estimator is combined with a high performance torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system becomes a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. A stability and usefulness, through the verified computer simulation and experiment, are shown in this paper.

  • This paper presents a method to reduce torque ripple of brushless DC motor by compensating phase delay due to winding inductance. For considering torque ripple comes from the phase winding inductance, torque equation of one phase is derived as Fourier series that is function of the delay. From the equation, also the resultant equation that the current delay is compensated is derived. It is validated that the compensated torque has a form of Fourier series for rectangular wave that is ideal torque, and torque ripple is reduced, consequently. Experimental method for the compensation is realized by replacing switching pattern of inverter by pattern of compensated rotor position. The effectiveness of the proposed method to reduce torque ripple has been demonstrated by the simulation and experimental results using 3 phase 4 pole brushless DC moor.

  • In this paper, control algorithm for torque ripple compensation in DFIG wind power generation system is proposed. A simple PI controller is designed for the negative sequence voltage cancellation using negative sequence currents in the grid-side converter. As a result, the stator voltage contains only the positive sequence components and the torque pulsation of the generator is effectively compensated. Propose algorithm is confirmed with PSCAD simulation model.

  • The modeling of 5-bar linkage robot manipulator dynamics by means of a mathematical and neural architecture is presented. Such a model is applicable to the design of a feedforward controller or adjustment of controller parameters. The inverse model consists of two parts: a mathematical part and a compensation part. In the mathematical part, the subsystems of a 5-bar linkage robot manipulator are constructed by applying Kawato's Feedback-Error-Learning method, and trained by given training data. In the compensation part, MLP backpropagation algorithm is used to compensate the unmodeled dynamics. The forward model is realized from the inverse model using the inverse of inertia matrix and the compensation torque is decoupled in the input torque of the forward model. This scheme can use tile mathematical knowledge of the robot manipulator and analogize the robot characteristics. It is shown that the model is reasonable to be used for design and initial gain tuning of a controller.

  • In vector-controlled drive systems, the current measurement offset error causes unwanted torque ripple, resulting in speed and torque control performance degradation. The current measurement offset error is caused by various factors, including thermal drift. This study proposes a simple DC offset error compensation method for a surface permanent magnet motor based on a disturbance observer. The disturbance observer is designed in the stationary reference frame. The proposed method uses only the measured current and machine parameters without additional hardware. The effect of parameter variations is analyzed, and the performance of the current measurement offset error compensation method is validated using simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a compensation method of disturbance using a disturbance observer is proposed for a force control of a pneumatic robot manipulator. The generated torque by a pneumatic actuator can be estimated based on the pressure signals. The inner torque control system is constructed by feeding back the generated torque to improve the dynamic characteristics of the actuator. In order to reduce the influence of disturbances comprising friction torque, parameter variations of plant and environment and so on, the reaction torque control system is constructed with a disturbance observer which estimates the disturbances based on the reference input to the inner torque control system and the reaction torque sensed with a forced sensor. From some simulations and experiments, it is confirmed that the proposed control system is effective to improve the robustness for the friction torque and the parameter change of object in the force control of a pneumatic robot manupulator.

  • This paper deals with a control method to reduce the torque ripple of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for electric power steering (EPS) systems. Such an application requires a very low torque ripple in order to maintain a good steering feel. However, because of spatial limitations, it cannot help having a partial saturation in the iron core of the PMSM for an EPS system, and this saturation results in a significant torque ripple. Thus, this paper analyzes the torque ripple caused by the magnetic saturation of a PMSM and proposes a method with respect to inductance measurement to verify the partial saturation. In addition, it is shown that a compensation current is needed in order to minimize the torque ripple when a PMSM is driven in the high torque region. The estimation process of the current and the torque ripple decreased by the current are presented and verified with test results.

  • A variable release torque-based compliance spring-clutch (VCSC) is presented. VCSC is a safe joint to reduce the impact of collisions between humans and robots. It is composed of four functional plates, balls, springs to make some functions in compliant movement, release mechanism, gravity compensation during its work. Also, it can estimate torque applied to a joint by using distance sensor and parameters of cam profile. The measured variable torque of prototype is 4.3~7.6 Nm and release torque is 4.3 Nm. In our future studies, a calibration for torque estimation will be conducted.
