  • This paper reports on the finite elements analysis for die compaction process of cemented carbide tool parts. Experimental data were obtained under die compaction and triaxial compression with various loading conditions. The elastoplastic constitutive equations based on the yield function of Shima and Oyane were implemented into an explicit finite element program (ABAQUS/Explicit) and implicit finite element program (PMsolver/Compaction-3D) to simulate compaction response of cemented carbide powder during die compaction. For simulation of die compaction, the material parameters for Shima and Oyane model were obtained by uniaxial die compaction test. Explicit finite element results were compared with implicit results for cemented carbide powder.

  • Studies on the optimizations of machining processes use two different methods. The first is feed control in real-time by spindle load in a machine tool. The second is feed scheduling in NC code control by material removal rate using a CAD/CAM system. Each approach possesses its respective merits and issues compared to the other. That is, each method can be complementary to the other. The purpose of the study is to improve the productivity of the bulkhead, an aircraft Duralumin structure. In this paper, acceleration or deceleration of cutting tool by spindle load data is achieved using adaptive feed control macro programming in a machine tool.

  • Finite element program(ANSYS) estimated thermal deformation quantity in high frequency heat treatment process of a machine tool fred drive system slideway and apply deformation quantity in roughing process. Having processed the heat treatment minimizing methods of the quantity of deformation heat treatment process. Having done heat treatment with high frequency after taper processing with considering the existed heat treatment generating the quantity of deformation, existed quantity of deformation can be reduced down to 80%, consequently productivity and material saving can be achieved. When high frequency heat treatment finite element method estimated deformation quantity at difference temperature and time, it is progress at cost don and saved time.

  • Ultrasonic machining technology has been developed over recent years for the manufacture of cost-effective and quality-assured precision parts for several industrial application such as optics, semiconductors, aerospace, and automobile. Ultrasonic machining process is an efficient and economical means of precision machining of ceramic materials. The process is non-thermal, non-chemical and non-electric and hardly creates changes to the mechanical properties of the brittle materials machined. This paper describes the characteristics of the micro-hole of $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ by ultrasonic machining with tungsten carbide tool. The effects of various parameters of ultrasonic machining, including abrasives, machining force and pressure, on the material removal rate, hole quality, and tool wear presented and discussed. The ultrasonic Machining of micro-holes in ceramics has been under taken and the machining mechanism in the ultrasonic machining of ceramics based on the fracture-mechanics concept has been analyzed.

  • In the machining process, variation in cutting forces results in relative displacements between the tool and the workpiece leading to tool vibration. Also there is a demand to change the depth of cut very frequently. One solution for the both cases is to develop a system which has the ability to reposition a cutting tool to a very small level, i.e., micron. This paper presents the development of a micropositioner using a magnetostrictive material. The developed micropositioner is implemented to a lathe and subjected to various tests. The results show that the micropositioner with a magnetostrictive actuator has good potential for machining application.

  • In this paper, a finite element method for predicting the temperature and stress distributions in micro-machining is presented. The work material is oxygen-free-high-conductivity copper(OFHC copper) and its flow stress is taken as a function of strain, strain rate and temperature in order to reflect realistic behavior in machining process. From the simulation, a lot of information on the micro-machining process can be obtained; cutting force, cutting temperature, chip shape, distributions of temperature and stress, etc. The calculated cutting force was found to agree with the experiment result with the consideration of friction characteristics on chip-tool contact region. Because of considering the tool edge radius, this cutting model using the finite element method can analyze the micro-machining with the very small depth of cut, almost the same size of tool edge radius, and can observe the 'size effect' characteristic. Also the effects of temperature and friction on micro-machining were investigated.

  • A new extra-fine grade Ni powder (XF Ni) has demonstrated increased sintering activity in Co-Fe-Ni binders for diamond tool applications. XF Ni has the advantage of significantly lower cost than XF Co. Up to 30% of XF Co was substituted with XF Ni while maintaining comparable apparent hardness and transverse rupture strength to pure Co binders. Ni substantially increased the diffusion of Fe. Diamond tool producers can take advantage of the improved sintering properties of XF Ni powder to substantially lower material costs.

  • In the milling operation, the burr can be generated on the intersection of cutting tool and workpiece. Due to burr formation, we expect lower efficiency in the operation and the cost increase. In order to understand the burr formation mechanism in the milling operation on the arbitrary feature, we developed an algorithm to analyse and predict the exit burr formation mechanism. Firstly, the recognition of arbitrary shaped workpiece was done through the CAD data. This data includes point information on the vertices of the workpiece. Secondly, tile CAM data regarding tool geometry, tool path, cutting speed, and material data are retrieved to simulate the actual cutting process. Thirdly, we predict the exit burr formation on the edge of workpiece based on the geometric analysis. Lastly, an algorithm implemented in the Windows environment to visualize the burr formation simulation. With this information, we can predict which portion of workpiece would have the exit burr in advance so that we call manage to find a way to minimize the edit burr formation in the actual cutting.

  • Quality of endmill applied to high speed Machining can be classified in precision and tool life. Especially, Endmills are damaged easily when high speed machining are occurred vibration and deflection by thin and long shape of endmill, limitation of chip-pocket. Furthermore, Endmills are determined tool life by the quality of base material and the character of coating. This study have carried on research and analysis about grinding technique, circumference technique to improve precision that determine the quality of endmill. As the result of this study, that the technique is able to manufacture endmill applied to high speed Machining have been obtained.

  • For micro electrochemical machining (ECM), tool electrodes with various sizes and shapes are necessary. In this paper, tool electrodes were fabricated by micro electrical discharge machining (EDM). Electrode material is tungsten carbide which has high rigidity and good conductivity for micro electrochemical machining. Disk-type and sphere-type electrodes were fabricated to prevent taper shape of side walls or to produce spherical features. Various 3D micro structures were fabricated by electrochemical milling with developed electrodes.
