  • The sensibility effects of color combinations was studied utilizing tone on tone combination and tone in tone combination. A total of 24 color combinations were rated by 10 college students using Semantic Differential Method. The data was analyzed by using Excel statistics program 2004. Analysis method was factor analysis. Theresults of this study were as follow. Color combinations utilizing tone on tone and color combinations utilizing tone in tone was evaluated a very different impression. Thus these were found to have an influence on sensibility effects of color combinations. In comparison with appearance of color combination using colored paper and that of product to apply to color combination using colored paper, it was showed to be evaluated mostly similar impression. However By characteristic with product, shape, size and texture, appearance of color combination is likely to be evaluated very difference impression. The results of these studies will serve as a basis of color combination image or color design.

  • This paper presents a newly developed resonance self-shielding method based on Tone's method in $APOLLO3^{(R)}$ for fast and thermal reactor calculations. The new method is based on simplified models, the narrow resonance approximation for the slowing down source and Tone's approximation for group collision probability matrix. It utilizes mathematical probability tables as quadrature formulas in calculating effective cross-sections. Numerical results for the ZPPR drawer calculations in 1,968 groups show that, in the case of the double-column fuel drawer, Tone's method gives equivalent precision to the subgroup method while markedly reducing the total number of collision probability matrix calculations and hence the central processing unit time. In the case of a single-column fuel drawer with the presence of a uranium metal material, Tone's method obtains less precise results than those of the subgroup method due to less precise heterogeneous-homogeneous equivalence. The same options are also applied to PWR UOX, MOX, and Gd cells using the SHEM 361-group library, with the objective of analyzing whether this energy mesh might be suitable for the application of this methodology to thermal systems. The numerical results show that comparable precision is reached with both Tone's and the subgroup methods, with the satisfactory representation of intrapellet spatial effects.

  • The screech tone of an underexpanded jet is numerically calculated without any specific modeling for the screech tone itself. A fourth-order optimized compact scheme and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method are used to solve the 2D axisymmetric Euler equation. The Fourier transform of pressure signal at upstream shows the directivity pattern of the screech tone very clearly. Pressure signal is shown to observe the generation of the screech tone. Most importantly, we can simulate the axisymmetric mode change of the screech tone very precisely with the proposed method. It can be concluded that the basic phenomenon of the screech tone including its frequency can be calculated and its mode change can be simulated with inviscid Euler equations.

  • In this paper we propose a new mixed method of LDA and tri-tone model to predict Korean prosodic break indices(PBI) for a given utterance. PBI can be used as an important cue of syntactic discontinuity in continuous speech recognition(CSR). The model consists of three steps. At the first step, PBI was predicted with the information of syllable and pause duration through the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method. At the second step, syllable tone information was used to estimate PBI. In this step we used vector quantization (VQ) for coding the syllable tones and PBI is estimated by tri-tone model. In the last step, two PBI predictors were integrated by a weight factor. The proposed method was tested on 200 literal style spoken sentences. The experimental results showed 72% accuracy.

  • In this paper, tone mapping method by local contrast and detail enhancement for High Dynamic Range (HDR) is proposed. By applying Piecewise Dynamic Range Histogram Adjustment (PDRHA) and Detail Enhancement Volume (DEV) with decomposed layers, tone mapping is performed effectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method preserves local contrast and overall impression with naturalness of original images.

  • In this paper, we propose a tone mapping method using Non-linear Dynamic Range Normalization (NDRN) for High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. HDR images are not suitable for commercial display devices because dynamic range of HDR images do not match with one of Low Dynamic Range (LDR) display devices. To reproduce a tone of HDR images for LDR displays, tone mapping methods have been proposed such as local and global tone mapping. We introduce NDRN to locate mean of HDR images at the center of LDR. NDRN preserves the details for highlight and shadow. By suppressing the significant luminance change in tone mapping, naturalness of original image can be also preserved. The experimental results show that the proposed method preserves details and naturalness of original images.

  • This paper describes a multi-step method of intonation modeling for corpus-based Korean speech synthesizer. We selected 1833 sentences considering various syntactic structures and built a corresponding speech corpus uttered by a female announcer. We detected the pitch using laryngograph signals and manually marked the prosodic boundaries on recorded speech, and carried out the tagging of part-of-speech and syntactic analysis on the text. The detected pitch was separated into 3 frequency bands of low, mid, high frequency components which correspond to the baseline, the word tone, and the syllable tone. We predicted them using the CART method and the Viterbi search algorithm with a word-tone-dictionary. In the collected spoken sentences, 1500 sentences were trained and 333 sentences were tested. In the layer of word tone modeling, we compared two methods. One is to predict the word tone corresponding to the mid-frequency components directly and the other is to predict it by multiplying the ratio of the word tone to the baseline by the baseline. The former method resulted in a mean error of 12.37 Hz and the latter in one of 12.41 Hz, similar to each other. In the layer of syllable tone modeling, it resulted in a mean error rate less than 8.3% comparing with the mean pitch, 193.56 Hz of the announcer, so its performance was relatively good.

  • An innovative tone modeling framework based on deep neural networks in tone recognition was proposed in this paper. In the framework, both the prosodic features and the articulatory features were firstly extracted as the raw input data. Then, a 5-layer-deep deep belief network was presented to obtain high-level tone features. Finally, support vector machine was trained to recognize tones. The 863-data corpus had been applied in experiments, and the results show that the proposed method helped improve the recognition accuracy significantly for all tone patterns. Meanwhile, the average tone recognition rate reached 83.03%, which is 8.61% higher than that of the original method.

  • High dynamic range (HDR) technology has been drawing attention in the field of imaging and consumer entertainment. As tools for capturing and creating HDR contents, encoding, and transmission evolve to support HDR formats, various display capabilities are being developed and increased. Hence, there is need for remapping native HDR imagery for display on lower quality legacy standard dynamic range (SDR) displays. This operation is referred to as tone mapping. In this paper, we present a sectional tone mapping method by Lenzen, and expand upon a tone mapping approach to improve temporal stability while maintaining picture quality. Compared to the existing block-based sectional tone mapping, our method uses the edge awareness-based tone mapping. We estimate the performance of the objective metric on temporal flickering. The experimental result shows that the algorithm maintains a smoother relationship between the output luminance values, and this reveals success in reducing halos and improving temporal stability with adopted edge aware filtering.

  • OFDM system is very useful for the high speed communication system. However, OFDM system has a serious problem of high PAPR that results from the so many subcarriers in the same phase. This OFDM signal is distorted through the nonlinear HPA(High Power Amplifier). Tone reservation method is to insert tone signal in several types to reduce the PAPR after iterating this process by changing the tone signal. Also discrete cosine transform(DCT) can reduces the PAPR as multiplying the cosine value to change the angle and mix up with the data. In the paper, the combination of the TR method and DCT method is newly proposed for more effective reduction of the PAPR. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional simple TR method and DCT method with respect to the PAPR reduction and BER performance.
