남녀 고령자의 자각적 내한내열성과 겨울철 착의 행동 비교 (Comparison of Self-identified Thermal Tolerance and Wearing Habits in Winter between the Elderly Males and Females)

  • This study investigated elderly winter wearing habits and self-identified thermal tolerance in order to compare differences between older males and older females. We surveyed 269 participants: 119 males (age $76.9{\pm}5.9yr$) and 150 females (age $76.1{\pm}5.7yr$). Thirty one questionnaires were used: Self-identified cold and heat tolerance, clothing behavior, lifestyles related to the cold and health care, etc. High percentage of respondents (both males and females) felt vulnerable to the cold. The total number of outdoor clothes were $9.6{\pm}1.6$ and $10.6{\pm}1.6$ in males and females, respectively (p<.05). Wearing frequencies for thermal underwear were 84.0% and 82.4% in males and females, respectively. The using percentage of auxiliary heating devices was higher in females compared to males (p<.01). Males felt more cold in the head and face compared to females (p<.01). Self-identified cold tolerance had negative relationships with the total number of winter outdoor clothes for both males (r=-0.260) and females (r=-0.222) (p<.01). The perceived old age for both males and females was 72.4 yr. Sex differences should be considered when developing guidelines for winter clothing behavior for the elderly and educating them on how to improve health and cold tolerance.

도시 거주 남자 대학생의 자각적 내한내열성과 체온조절 행동 (Thermoregulatory Behavior and Self-identified Thermal Tolerance of Young Males Residing in Urban Area)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory behavior of young males in terms of self-identified thermal tolerance. We recruited 436 male students from Seoul ($24.0{\pm}4.6yr$ in age, $175.3{\pm}5.5cm$ in height, $70.1{\pm}10.6kg$ in body mass, and $23.0{\pm}2.7$ in BMI) in accordance with four types of self-identified thermal tolerance: 1) tolerable of both cold and heat, BCH (N=15); 2) heat tolerable only, HTO (N=118); 3) cold tolerable only, CTO (N=162); and 4) neither cold nor heat tolerable, NCH (N=141). The questionnaire consisted of 55 questions regarding preference to cold or heat environment, seasonal thermoregulatory behaviors including clothing habits, seasonal sleeping environments, health care/physical fitness, and anthropometric items. The results showed that: 1) BCH preferred less auxiliary heating devices, gloves/hats, or thermal underwear in winter and had very few experiences with cold/heat injuries or catching a cold, whereas NCH showed the opposite behavior and experiences as BCH; 2) thermoregulatory behaviors were not symmetrical between summer and winter. Most male students preferred cold beverage/foods to using cooling devices to lower body temperature in summer, whereas auxiliary heating devices were preferred to warm beverage/foods to maintain body temperature in winter; 3) thermoregulatory behaviors of NCH had more items in common with HTO than CTO, while the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than HTO. Overall, we confirmed that thermoregulatory behaviors were apparently classified by self-identified thermal tolerance, and such behaviors could be adjusted by improving cold or heat tolerance.

  • Brassica napus is the third most important oilseed crop in the world; however, in Korea, it is greatly affected by cold stress, limiting seed growth and production. Plants have developed specific stress responses that are generally divided into three categories: cold-stress signaling, transcriptional/post-transcriptional regulation, and stress-response mechanisms. Large numbers of functional and regulatory proteins are involved in these processes when triggered by cold stress. Here, our objective was to investigate the different genetic factors involved in the cold-stress responses of B. napus. Consequently, we treated the Korean B. napus cultivar Naehan at the 4-week stage in cold chambers under different conditions, and RNA and cDNA were obtained. An in silico analysis included 80 cold-responsive genes downloaded from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. Expression levels were assessed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and 14 cold-triggered genes were identified under cold-stress conditions. The most significant genes encoded zinc-finger proteins (33.7%), followed by MYB transcription factors (7.5%). In the future, we will select genes appropriate for improving the cold tolerance of B. napus.

Expressing the Tyrosine Phosphatase (CaTPP1) Gene from Capsicum annuum in Tobacco Enhances Cold and Drought Tolerances

  • As one way to approach to cold defense mechanism in plants, we previously identified the gene for protein-tyrosine phosphatase (CaTPP1) from hot pepper (Capsicum annuum) using cDNA microarray analysis coupled with Northern blot analysis. We showed that the CaTPP1 gene was strongly induced by cold, drought, salt and ABA stresses. The CaTPP1 gene was engineered under control of CaMV 35S promoter for constitutive expression in transgenic tobacco plants by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The resulting CaTPP1 transgenic tobacco plants showed significantly increased cold stress resistance. It also appeared that some of the transgenic tobacco plants showed increased drought tolerance. The CaTPP1 transgenic plants showed no visible phenotypic alteration compared to wild type plants. These results showed the involvement of protein tyrosine phosphatase in tolerance of abiotic stresses including cold and drought stress.

의복을 이용한 내한성 향상 훈련이 내열성에 미치는 영향 (The Relationship between Increased Cold Tolerance Resulting from Cool Clothing on Heat Tolerance)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the improved cold tolerance resulting from cool clothing in winter on heat tolerance in summer. Ten healthy women were divided into two groups, cold group(C group) (n=5) and warm group(W group) (n=5) . In the previous study, C group was proved that their cold acclimatization was achieved through wearing cool clothing from September to February of the following year, while Wgroup was not proved because of wearing warm clothing during same period. After February, no more clothing training was continued in two groups. To determine the heat tolerance, both groups were exposed from a thermoneutral environment(25$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$5% R.H.) to a hot environment (35$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$5% R.H.) before and after clothing training, respectively September in 1994 and truly in 1995. Rectal temperature, skin temperatures, thermal sensation and comfort were measured every 10 min., and Os uptake was measured at 10, 45, 85 min. after entering the chamber for 5 min. Body weight was measured before and after the experiment and amount of local sweat was measured during the 90 min long experiment. The results are as follows: Rectal temperatures in 35'c environment of C group were increased after training when compared with before clothing, while those of W group were not changed. But the changes of rectal temperature and heat production during 90 min in hot environment were almost the same in two groups after training. And mean skin temperatures, the changes of mean skin temperatures during 90 min in hot environment, total sweat amount and local sweat amount after training were also the same in two groups. From these results, it might be supposed that the heat loss of two groups were the same but the heat production, especially heat production during rest in C group was higher than in Wgroup. This fact suggests that the increase of rest heat production from cold acclimatization in winter is maintained to summer of the following year. And mild cold acclimatization coming from westing cool clothing does not have a negative effect on heat tolerance.

미토콘드리아 호흡활성 전이온도의 측정에 의한 벼품종별 상대적 내냉성판정 (Transition Temperature of Mitochondrial Respiratory Activity as an Index for Chilling Susceptivity of Varieties of Rice Plant)

  • 생육기간동안 냉수처리하는 포장시험(작물시험장 시험사업)을 통해 재배학적방법으로 상대적 내냉성정도가 판정되어 있는 벼 41품종을 재배하여 그 유수로부터 분리한 미토콘드리아의 호흡활성전이 온도를 측정하였다. 강내냉성으로 분류된 품종들은 $11.5{\sim}13.5^{\circ}C$의 상대적으로 낮은 활성전이온도를 보였으며 내냉성이 약한 품종들일수록 그 온도가 높아졌다. 작물시험장의 내냉성 판정등급(강, 중강, 중, 중약 및 약)에 따라 그룹별로 해당품종들의 호흡활성 전이온도를 배열하면 그 순서는 그룹별로 내냉성이 약해지는 순서와 일치하였다. 이 결과는 유수미토콘드리아의 호흡활성 전이온도가 전반적 내냉성(overall cold-tolerance) 판정의 객관적 지표가 된다는 사실을 강하게 시사하고 있다. 호흡활성 전이온도의 간편한 측정을 위한 방법론을 분석생화학적 측면에서 검토하였다. 본연구에서 주로 이용한 polarographic method 이외에도 막에 결합된 cytochrome C oxidase가 호흡활성 및 그 전이온도를 결정한다는 발견에 입각하여 이 효소의 온도에 따른 활성변화를 spectrophotometric method로 측정하므로서 미토콘드리아 호흡계 전체의 활성전이온도를 측정할 수 있음도 확인하였다.

이탈리안 라이그라스 신품종 ″화산 102호″의 생육특성과 수량성 (Growth Characters and Productivity of New Italian Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) Variety ″Hwasan 102″)

  • "Hwasan 102" is a new cold-tolerant Italian ryegrass(Lo1ium rnultiflorum L.) variety developed by theNational Livestock Research Institute(NLRI) in 1999. Having cold tolerance in Italian ryegrass is an importantfor enlargement of cultivation area and increase of productivity in Korea. To develop the cold-tolerant varietyof Italian ryegrass, cold-tolerant clones survived under - 13- - 14$^{\circ}$C of minimum average air temperature(MAAT) in January were selected at Dun Nae, Kwangwon Province in 1993. Five of selected clones werepolycrossed for seed production by NLRI, RDA, in 1995."Hwasan 102" was tetraploid variety, dark green in leaf color and broad in flag leaf width. Also it hassemi-prostrate and medium growth habit in late autumn and in early spring, respectively. "Hwasan 102" withlow plant height at harvesting time was excellent in lodging tolerance. First heading date of "Hwasan 102"was 19th May, it was similar to that of Marshall. Expecially, "Hwasan 102" survived about 60% under - 10- - 12$^{\circ}$C of MAAT in January, so it could be cold-tolerant variety that can be safely cultivated in regionshigher than -9'C of MAAT in January. Compared with Marshall, "Hwasan 102" showed 8% higher freshyield (59.2MT per ha) but it showed 2% lower dry matter yield (9.6MT per ha). 청소년들의 겨울철 교실 내·외 환경에서의 자각적 내한성과 착의행동 분석 (Analysis of Teenagers' Self-identified Cold Tolerance and Wearing Behavior Inside and Outside the Classroom During Winter)

  • This study analyzed the self-identified cold tolerance and wearing behavior of teenagers inside and outside the classroom during winter, considering recent climate changes. A questionnaire was divided into four parts-general information, thermal and comfort sensation inside and outside classroom, self-identified cold tolerance, and wearing behavior to collect data from 322 students. Over several years, changes were noted in respondents' wearing behavior during winter outings, with the biggest being the purchase of a "long padded jacket" for warmth while outside. Most respondents showed similar wearing behavior, such as no difference between the number of clothes worn in a classroom maintained at 20℃ (girls: 8.0±3.1 layer, boys: 6.5±2.1 layer) and outside (girls: 8.8±3.4 layer, boys: 7.1±3.0 layer), despite feeling differently about the thermal sensation inside and outside the classroom. This difference may due to a teenager's lack of knowledge about temperature and their tendency to follow clothing trends. Female students were more sensitive to the cold and wore more garments inside and outside the classroom. Gender-related differences should be considered when educating teenagers about safe and healthy clothing.

벼 재조합 자식계통의 내냉성 관련 형질 분석 (Evaluation of Cold Tolerance-Related Traits of Recombinant Inbred Lines in Rice)

  • 본 연구는 저온에 민감한 밀양 23호를 모본으로 내냉성이 강한 Stejaree45호를 부본으로 교잡하여 육성한 175 RILs를 이용하여 내냉성 관련 형질들의 변이분포, 유전 통계량 및 상관 관계를 분석하였다. 조사된 형질 중 수당영화수, 적고, 출수지연일수, 간장단축율 및 영화수감소율은 정규분포에 가까운 연속변이 분포곡선을 보였으며, 모든 형질에서 양친의 범위를 벗어나는 초월분리현상을 보였다. 임실감소율과 수량감소율은 모본인 밀양 23호 쪽으로 일정하게 치우친 경향으로 저온에 민감한 쪽으로, 출수지연일수와 간장단축율은 부본인 Stejaree45 쪽으로 치우친 경향으로 내냉성이 증가되는 쪽으로 작용가가 큰 유전자가 관여하는 것으로 추정되었다. 내냉성 관련 형질들의 상관관계 중 수량감소율과 상관이 인정되었던 형질은 출수지연일수, 간장단축율, 이삭추출도 및 임실감소율이었고, 조사된 형질중 유전력이 $60\%$이상으로 나타난 형질은 분얼기 적고, 임실감소율, 이삭추출도 였으며, 유전력이 $40\%$ 이하로 낮았던 형질은 간장단축율, 영화수감소율 및 수량감소율이었다. 175 RILs 중에서 내냉성 관련 형질의 내냉성 정도가 부본인 Stejaree45수준이거나 그 이상의 내냉성 형질을 가진 것은 86계통으로, 1개의 내냉성 형질은 56계통 $32.0\%$였고, 2개의 내냉성 형질은 25계통 $14.3\%$, 3개의 내냉성 형질은 4계통 $2.3\%$, 4개의 내냉성 형질은 1계통 밖에 없었으며, 그 이상의 내냉성 관련 형질을 가진 계통은 없었다.

기상재해와 수도육종상의 대책 - 내냉성품종육성방안- (Meteorological Constraints and Countermeasures in Rice Breeding -Breeding for cold tolerance-)

  • 1. 내냉성품종의 요망은 고위도지대뿐만 아니라 열대지방에서도 간절하며 요망되는 내냉성품종의 특성도 여러 가지이다. 세계적으로 요망되는 내냉성을 IRRI에서는 편의상 a) 북해도형, b) 수원형, c) 태북일기작형, d) 태북이기작형, e) 열대고냉지형 및 f) Bangladesh형으로 구분하고 있다. 우리나라에서 요망되는 내냉성은 통일계품종에서 더욱 간절하며 생육전반에 걸쳐 Japonica 정도의 생리적 활성이 요망되지만 적어도 유묘기와 성숙기의 저온장해가 Japonica보다 크지 않은 것이 우선 당면한 문제라 하겠다. 일반계품종에서는 조생이면서 안정된 기본영양생장성을 가지고 고온에서 과민하지 않고 저온에서 생육지연이 비교적 작은 것이라면 좋을 것이다. 2. 국내에서의 내냉성계통검정방법과 시설은 통일계품종의 출현 이후 급속히 발전되었으며 저온항온기, 냉수 Tank, growth cabinet, phytotron, 춘천의 냉수포장, 진부, 운봉, 영덕의 내냉계통육종포 등 내냉계통선발을 위해서는 비교적 잘 갖춰진 편이다. 국외의 시설로는 IRRI의 냉수 Tank와 세대촉진시설 그리고 Banaue, Kathmandu나 Kashirnir의 자연생태적조건을 우리가 이용할 수 있을 것이다. 참고로 일본에서 보고된 생육각단계에서의 여러 가지 내냉성검정방법을 소개하였다. 3. 내냉성품종들이 가지고 있는 내냉형질의 단리는 아직 분명히 되어 있지 못하지만 a) 저온발아성, b) 저온유묘생장성, c) 저온묘변색 d) 저온발근력, e) 저온분벽력, f) 저온양분흡수능력, g) 저온동화력, i) 저온임실장해, j) 저온등숙장해 등에 품종간차가 분명한 것이 보고되어 있다. 위의 형질간의 상관관계는 형질에 따라 재료에 따라 구구하였다. 내냉성형질들의 유전에 관한 보고는 많지 않아 저온발아력에 관해 4개 이상의 다인자, 유묘저온생존력에 관해 단인자 또는 다인자, 유수형성기 저온저항력에 관해 4개 또는 그 이상의 다인자, 냉수포장에서의 저온저항력에 관해, 4개 이상의 유전자가 관여되는 것으로 그리고 heritability는 항상 높은 것으로 보고되어 있지만 같은 그 재료들을 가지고 다른 저온에서 검토하면 상이한 결과가 나올 것은 쉽게 짐작할 수 있다. 여러 가지 내냉성검정기술의 발전과 IRRI의 국제 내냉성품종연락시험으로 Japonica, Indica, Bulu 등에서 다같이 많은 품종들이 내냉성모본으로 검정되어 있다. 4. 육종방안을 구상할 때 고려해야 할 사항들 a) 유전질의 다양화, b) 내병충성의 집적, c) 지역별 적응품종의 동정, d) 장려품종의 체계적 통제 등을 고려하면서 단기적 및 장기적 육종방안을 제안하였다. 단기적으로는 일반계품종을 대상으로 하되 우리나라 기존품종을 기초로 알려진 내냉성품종을 가지고 생육일수와 내냉성을 조정하는 한편 극조생내냉성 찰벼모본에 내충내병인 Indica 모본을 일회친으로 Japonica로 Back cross하면서 내병충성을 유지한 계통을 선발하여 이것으로 내냉조합에 내병충성을 첨가시키도록 한다. 장기적 방안으로는 Japonica뿐만 아니라 Indica, Javanica 등 모든 내냉성모본을 이용하여 germplasm의 다양화를 꾀하며 모본별 형질별 내냉성유전자를 동정하여 이들을 종합하여 생육전기간을 안정하게 경과할 수 있게 내냉성을 향상하고 내병충성을 첨가하는 단계적인 과정을 제안하였다. 육종효율을 높이기 위하여 세대촉진, 화분배양과 국제협력의 필요성을 강조하였다.
