1. The effects of chloroform to the tissue lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activities and its isozymes and to the tissue glutamic dehydrogenase (GDH) activities and its isoaymes are studied using the experimental albino male adult rats in this paper. The tissues studies are liver, kidney, heart, and brain. Besides the control group, two experimental groups are studied providing succeedingly 4 days interpariental administrations of chloroform, 0.0025ml and 0.025ml per day respectively. The changes of body weights, weights of organs, activities of GDH and LDH and their isozymes of each tissues, are analysed. 2. The body weights of rats are decreased due to the chloroform administration. 3. There are no significant differences of weights of organs due to the chloroform administration. 4. The significant decreases of tissue GDH activities and the significant changes in percent distribution of the GDH isozymes are found due to the chloroform administration. This weight be interpretated that chloroform effects to the protein and amino acid metabolism of rats. 5. Due to the chloroform administration, the significant changes in tissue LDH activities and in percent distribution of tissue LDH isozymes indicating the decreases of $LDH_1$ which is the aerobic heart type and the increase of $LDH_5$ which is the anaerobic muscle type, are observed. This could be estimated that chloroform effects to the carbohydrate metabolism, particularly to the anaerobic glycolysis of rats.

Tritium is an important nuclide that must be monitored for radiation safety management. In this study, HTO was orally administered to rats at the level of 37 kBq ($1{\mu}Ci$) or 370 kBq ($10{\mu}Ci$) to examine tissue distribution and excretion levels. After sacrifice, wet and dry tissue samples were weighed and analyzed for tissue free-water tritium (TFWT) and organically bound tritium (OBT). The mean tissue concentrations of TFWT (OBT) were 30.9 (17.8) and 4.4 (8.1) Bq/g on days 7 and 13 at the 37 kBq level and 30.8 (64.6) Bq/g on day 17 at the 370 kBq level. To assess the cytogenetic damage due to tritium exposure, a cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus (MN) assay was performed in blood samples from rats exposed to HTO for 14 and 21 days after oral administration. There was no significant difference in the MN frequencies between the control and exposed rats.
The pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of DA-3285 (recombinant human erythropoietin, recently manufactured by Research Laboratories of Dong-A Pharmaceutical Company) were studied in the laboratory animals. The plasma, urine, and tissue concentration of DA-3285 were measured by a double-antibody sandwich enzyme immunoassay. After intravenous administration of DA-3285, 20, 100, 500 and 2500 units/kg to rats, the plasma concentrations declined polyexponentially with the terminal half-lives of 2.15, 2.10, 2.31, and 2.35 hr, respectively. Total body clearance (20.7∼26.6 mι/hr/kg) and apparent volume of distribution at steady state (57.2∼70.1 mι/kg) were independent of the dose and AUC increased proportionally with the dose. The renal clearance was much lower than total body clearance, suggesting that extrarenal clearance, presumably metabolism , plays a significant role in elimination of DA-3285. In all rat tissues, the tissue to plasma ratios were smaller than unity, indicating less affinity of DA-3285 to rat tissues and was proved by considerably less value of Vdss. After 3 times a week for consecutive 3 weeks i.v. administration of DA-3285, 100 units/kg to rats, the plasma concentrations and pharmacokinetic parameters of DA-3285 were not significantly different from those in a single administration. After s.c. administration to the rat, plasma concentrations of DA-3285 peaked at 6 hr and the extent of bioavailability was 26.7%. In mice, rabbits and dogs, at DA-3285 dose of 100 units/kg, the mean terminal haw-lives were 2.78, 3.05, and 4.01 hr, respectively. Compared with reported data in the literatures, DA-3285 has similar properties to rh-EPO manufactured by other companies in view of pharmacokinetics.
When X-rays were projected into a patient, there occured the phenomena such as penetration, absorption and scattering etc. The penetrating rays were recorded on films as X-ray image used for diagnosis but scattered rays caused the radiation hazard both to the patient, specialist and technicians. The soft tissue includes many organs which are sensitive to the radiation and in may occupy $40{\sim}50%$ of body weight. Therefore X-rays should be carefully projected to the patient and it is strongly recommended to analyse the distribution of X-rays, when ever the patient is exposed to X-rays. In this study, the distribution of X-ray according to the thickness, the radiation field and the tube voltages (kVp) in soft tissue, the following results were obtained: 1. Total transmitted rays which kept the step with X-ray tube voltage (kVp) increased in proportion to the increasing of X-ray tube voltage. 2. The scattered ray rate in the total transmitted ray was not significantly found with X-ray tube voltage. 3. The affecting factors of the scattered ray rate in total transmitted ray were shown through the radiation field and the thickness. 4. The dose of scattered ray by the angle was observed more in direction of primary ray ($0^{\circ}$) and back scattering ($160^{\circ}$) than in direction of $90^{\circ}$. 5. The more the distance from phantom to the patient should be less distribution of scattered ray.
The differences in pharmacokinetic behavior and tissue distribution of verapamil and its enantiomers were investigated in rats. In high-performance liquid chromatographic method, an achiral ODS column (150 mm $\times$ 4.6 mm i.d.) with the mobile phase consisting of methanol-water (73:30, v/v) was used for the determination of the concentration for racemic verapamil, and a Chiralcel OJ column (250 mm$\times$4.6 mm i.d.) with the mixture of n-haxane-ethanol-triethylamine (85:15:0.2, v/v/v) as mobile phase was used to determine the concentrations of verapamil enantiomers. A fluorescence detector in the analytical system was set at excitation and emission wavelengths of 275 nm and 315 nm. The differences between enantiomers were apparent in the pharmacokinetics in rats. The area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of S-(-) verapamil was higher than that of R-(+) verapamil. The half-distribution time ($T_{1/2(\alpha)}$) of S-(-) verapamil which distributing to tissue from blood was shorter than that of R-(+) verapamil, but the elimination half-time ($T_{1/2(\beta)}$) was longer in rat following oral administration of racemic verapamil. At 1.3 h after oral administration of racemic verapamil, however, there were no significant differences between enantiomers for the distributions in major tissues such as heart, cerebrum, cerebellum, liver, spleen and kidney.
Berger formulation was used to calculate the dose distribution of $^{60}$ Co source in tissue. $^{60}$ Co source was supposed as point source. The effect of the stainless-steel around the source was considered and Taylor Approximation Method was used for calculating exposure build-up factor. Calculated depth dose data was compared with measured data which was measured by the ionization chamber.
Pain is one of the quite common symptoms in clinics and many treatment methods have been applied to relieve pain. Among the treatments, high-intensity light therapy for pain has been introduced, but this therapy has not been fully supported by confirmed efficacy due to the absence of quantitative assessments and treatment feedback data in real time. In this study, the evaluation of light distribution in tissue was performed with current high-intensity light sources quantitatively using light-tissue interaction simulations. The diffuse reflectance in tissue was generated using Monte Carlo simulation that traces photons as they undergo multiple scattering and absorption within each tissue layer (skin, fat, and muscle) and within multi-layered tissue. The results showed that the highest diffuse reflectance and the deepest penetration of tissue were achieved at ${\lambda}$=830 nm when compared with other wavelengths like ${\lambda}$=650 nm, 980 nm and 1064 nm.
A finite element analysis of end-to-end artery/PTFE anastomosis has been presented in this study to evaluate the distribution of compliance in the vicinity of the anastomosis due to any mismatch in compliance characteristics. But, In these studies it was assumed that the artery and PTFE have the simple cylindrical shape representing the fatty tissue surrounding the coronary artery. And the fatty tissue was considered as the elastic surrounding materials in the finite element analysis. The simulation results were obtained as follows : 1. A fatty tissue was effect to reduce the compliance mismatch in the vicinity of a artery/PTFE anastomosis of different material because a hypercompliant zone become narrorw and a compliance discrepancy decrease between the artery and the PTFE about 70%. And radial direction displacement distribution with respect to distance in the vicinity of a artery/PTFE anastomosis was similiar. 2. The variation of PTFE thckness reduce the compliance mismatch in the vicinity of a artery/PTFE anastomosis about 25%.
Androgen plays an important role in the regulation of gonadotropin production in vertebrates . We have investigated the transcriptional pattern of androgen receptor (AR) in a variety of tissues in maturing male and female goldfish by RT-PCR. Specific primer for AR was designed based on goldfish AR gene from the GenBank (accession number AY090897). AR was shown 10 be maturity- and tissue-dependent gene expression pattern in goldfish. In immature male goldfish, significantly higher transcript level of AR was observed in the pituitary und testis , compared [0 brain and liver. Mature male goldfish showed a similar expression pattern to immature male goldfish. Interestingly. when compare to male goldfish, female goldfish showed AR mRNA expression that was found 10 be weak in pituitary, and very low expression in brain. They could not be found 10 have expression in any other tissues. Taken together. the- transcriptional analysis of AR depending on the tissue, sex. and maturity of a goldfish provides the opportunity for the study of goldfish reproductive physiology ,The results provided for the first time a comparison of the tissue distribution of AR mRNA in sexually maturating male and female goldfish.
Iron (Fe) is an essential metal in biological processes, which maintains a homeostasis in the human body. Divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) has been known as an iron transporting membrane protein, which is involved in the uptake Fe at the apical portion of intestinal epithelium, and may transport Fe across the membrane of acidified endosome in peripheral tissues. In this study, we studied the tissue distribution of DMT1 in the Fe supplemented (FeS) diet fed rats, and the regulation of DMT1 expression by depleting body Fe. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups, and fed FeS (120 mg Fe/kg) diet or Fe deficient (FeD, 2∼6 mg Fe/kg) diet for 4 weeks. The evaluation of body Fe status was monitored by measuring sFe, UIBC and tissue Fe concentration. Additionally, DMT1 mRNA levels were analyzed in the peripheral tissues by using the quantitative real time RT-PCR method. In the FeS diet fed rats, the tissue Fe was maintained at a relatively high level, and DMT1 was eventually expressed in all tissues studied. DMT1 was highly expressed in the testis, kidney and spleen, while a moderate levels of DMT1 expression was detected in the brain, liver and heart. In the digestive system, the highest level of DMT1 was found in the duodenum. Feeding the FeD diet caused a reduced body weight gain and depletion of body Fe with finding of decreased sFe, increased UIBC and decreased tissue Fe concentration. The depletion of body Fe upregulated DMT1 expression in the peripheral tissue. The expression of DMT1 was very sensitive to the body Fe depletion in the small intestine, especially in the duodenum, showing dramatically higher levels in the FeD rats than those of the FeS group. In the FeD diet fed animals, the expression of DMT1 was low significantly in other tissues compared with the duodenum. The expression of DMT1, however, was 60∼120% higher in the testis, kidney and spleen, and 30∼50% higher in the lung, liver and heart, compared to the FeS diet fed rats. In summary, DMT1 expression was ubiquitous in mammalian tissue, and the level of expression was the organ-dependent. The expression of DMT1 in peripheral tissues was upregulated by depletion of body Fe. Duodenum was the most sensitive tissue among organs studied during Fe depletion, and expressed the greatest level of DMT1, while other tissues were less higher than in duodenum. This study supports that DMT1 plays a role in maintaining the body Fe level through intestinal uptake as well as homeostasis of Fe in the peripheral tissue.
