The authors had observed clinically and histopathologically on the 5 cases of globulomaxillary cysts. The results are as follows: 1. All cases occurred in men, and the average age was 33.6 year,; the oldest was 38 year and the youngest was 31 year old. 2. Four cases occurred in upper left jaw and the one was in right. 3. By the roentgenogram, well demarkated line between the cyst and intact bone were observed as pea shaped radiolucency between the canine and the lateral incisor. In most cases alveolar bone was involved from the central incisor to the premolar region. 4. Thick stratified squamous epithelium was covering the connective tissue wall. There were no keratinization except one case of parakeratosis which had massive inflammatory infiltration. Inflammatory infiltration was obsereved in most cases.
A three year and seven month old girl with moderate depression deformity of the sternum associated with a huge well defined homogenous hazy mass density of the upper half of the right hemithorax on plain chest x-ray had developed, exertionaI dyspnea (Figs1, 2 and 3). Correction of the funnel chest was carried out with modified Ravitch procedure and resection of the intrathoracic cystic mass was performed through an anterolateral thoracotomy incision in one stage operation satisfactorily (Figs. 7 and 8). On exploration, the mass, $15{\times}12{\times}10$cm in size, was connected to the bronchus at 1cm a bove the carina by a stalk (Fig. 4). The outer surface showed abundant vasculature. The specimen was filled with mucoid material; the inner surface was much trabeculated. glistening and smooth (Fig. 5 and 6). yficroscopically, the cyst was lined with simple or pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. The cystic wall was composed of loose fibrous connective tissue, muscle layers, cartilages with some lymphocytic infiltration (Fig. 9). Isolated cases of funnel chest deformity and congenital bronchogenic cystic disease are not uncommon; however, the assocbtion of the two conditions is yery rare. Therefore. report and review of the literature was done.

A subperiosteal ganglion is a very rare benign soft tissue tumor characterized by mucoid degeneration and cyst formation within the periosteum, which may results in cortical erosion. When evaluating a periosteal mass in out-patient clinic, ultrasonography can be used to define the location and cystic nature of the subperiosteal ganglion. A 48 years old woman had two month history of the protruding mass over the anteromedial aspect of right proximal tibia. Ultrasonography was used for the diagnosis of the subperiosteal ganglion in out-patient clinic and mass was excised uneventfully. We report the case of a subperiosteal ganglion of the proximal tibia with literature review.

A ganglion cyst contains clear high viscous fluid within dense fibrous connective tissue wall communicating with joint or tendon sheath, but is not frequent around the knee joint. A hard mass at the medial side of the knee joint of the 73 years old woman, mimic to hard tumor mass was diagnosed as the ganglion using ultrasonography. Ultrasonography was a useful diagnostic tool of the cystic lesion although the consistency of the mass was hard enough to be suspected as a tumor mass.

Neurocysticercosis is the most common parasitic disease of the central nervous system in humans, caused by infection of the larval stage of the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium. However, cerebellar involvement is rarely reported. We report of a case of racemose cysticercosis in the cerebellar hemisphere. A 44-year-old man presented with headache and dizziness. Magnetic resonance imaging showed hydrocephalus and an ill-defined, multicystic cerebellar mass with hypersignal on T2-weighted images, hyposignal on T1-weighted images and rim enhancement after gadolinium injection. The patient underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy and the cyst resection was done through a craniotomy. In surgical field, cysts were conglomerated in a dense collagen capsule that were severely adherent to surrounding cerebellar tissue, and transparent cysts contained white, milky fluid. Histological findings confirmed the diagnosis of cysticercosis. He received antiparasitic therapy with praziquantel after surgery. Racemose cysticercosis is rare in the cerebellar hemisphere but neurocysticercosis should be taken into consideration as a differential diagnosis of multiple cystic lesions in the cerebellum.
The anatomical variations of the external genitalia including the hymen were observed prospectively in 1,500 female infants born between March, 1992 and July, 1992 at the Taegu Fatima Hospital. Careful inspection of the external genitalia was done within 24 hours after birth, and abnormal findings photographed. Almost all hymenal tissue appeared to be redundant. The hymen was annulus in 89.1 % of patients. Ninteen point nine percent had a central orifice and the remainder a ventral orifice. External ridges, intravaginal ridges, and clefts were present in 71.5 %, 50.7 % and 40.5 %, respectively. Congenital anomalies of the external genitalia were found in 20 patients(1.4 %). There were sixteen cases of hymenal cysts, two hymenal polyps, one imperforate hymen, and one Skene's duct cyst. Seven of the 16 hymenal cysts with stalks were excised and those without stalk were aspirated. Hymenal polyps were excised. Imperforate hymen was incised and drained, and Skene's duct cyst was aspirated successfully. The surgical procedure were done without anesthesia, and the results have been good. In conclusion, routine physical examination of the female newborn infant detects frequent developmental anomalies. The significance of those anomalies will be clarified after longitudinal long-term followup studies.

Purpose: To determine the biological behaviour of common odontogenic cystic lesions by analysing and comparing bcl-2 expression amongst them. Materials and Methods: Our study covered 90 formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue samples: 26 primary cases each of radicular cysts (RC), dentigerous cysts (DC) and odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) and 12 of recurrent OKCs. Bcl-2 expression was analysed immunohistochemically and data analysis was accomplished using SPSS version 17.0. Means were taken for age while for gender and site of the lesions frequencies and percentages were determined. The Chi-square test was applied to evaluate any statistically significant difference of bcl-2 expression in these lesions and p value of ${\leq}0.05$ was taken as significant. Results: All the recurrent OKCs showed a strong positivity for bcl-2 that was absent in all of its primary cases (p value<0.05). Although variation in expression of bcl-2 was not found to be statistically significant between RC and DC, however, it became significant when all primary cases of these common odontogenic lesions were compared. Conclusions: Recurrent OKC showed comparatively a more aggressive behaviour than their primary counterparts and also from RC and DC. Bcl-2 proved to be a valuable adjunct in determining aggressive biological behaviour of odontogenic lesions.

Purpose: Epidural abscesses and subdural empyemas after craniotomy are uncommon, potentially lethal, complications of neurosurgery. Patients with these complications may be difficult to manage and dural reconstruction in these patients are challenging. Methods: A 28 - year - old female patient showed recurrent intracranial infection after craniotomy for evacuation of a arachnoid cyst and subdural hematoma. Despite prolonged systemic antibiotic administration and a debridement of the subdural space, infection persisted, as evidenced by persistent fever, an elevated WBC count, CSF leakage, low CSF glucose level, and purulent wound discharge. The authors removed the previously applied lyophilized dura and transferred free omental flap to reconstruct the dura, obliterate the cyst and cover the cerebral hemisphere in the craniotomy defect. Microvascular anastomosis was between gastroepiploic and superficial temporal vessels. Results: The postoperative course was uneventful and flap survival was excellent. The infection - resistant omental tissue allowed sufficient blood circulation and dead space control. The patient was discharged 1 month after surgery and wound discharge or recurrence was absent during 13 months of follow up periods. Conclusion: The use of vascularized free omentum proved useful in cases of intractable cranial wound infection and cerebrospinal fluid leakages.
Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare skeletal disorder characterized by abnormal fibro-osseous connective tissue replacing normal bone. Despite its benign behavior, craniofacial FD can cause morphological disfigurement, headache, and even blindness as a result of the produced mass effect. Surgical resection is recommended when the patient shows apparent clinical symptoms or aggravating facial asymmetry. Postoperative complications have been reported, such as hematoma, surgical site infection, abscess formation, resorption of the bone graft used for reconstruction, and recurrence. An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare benign bony lesion that can occur secondary to preexisting bone tumor. Secondary ABCs in craniofacial FD are extremely rare in the literature, accounting for less than 30, all of which are either case reports or series. We report an extremely rare case of symptomatic secondary ABC arising from craniofacial FD that had been misdiagnosed with abscess formation or recurrence and was surgically removed. Notably, 17 years elapsed between the primary surgery and the complication of secondary ABC. The patient underwent total removal of secondary ABC. After surgery, symptoms were relieved, with no recurrence observed during a 6-month follow-up.
As the majority of incidentally detected lesions in the anterior mediastinum is small nodules with soft tissue appearance, the differential diagnosis has typically included thymic neoplasm and prevascular lymph node, with benign cyst. Overestimation or misinterpretation of these lesions can lead to unnecessary surgery for ultimately benign conditions. Diagnosing mediastinal cysts using MRI serves as a problem-solving modality in distinguishing between surgical and nonsurgical anterior mediastinal lesions. The pitfalls of MRI evaluation for anterior mediastinal cystic lesions are as follows: first, we acknowledge the limitation of T2-weighted images for evaluating benign cystic lesions. Due to variable contents within benign cystic lesions, such as hemorrhage, T2 signal intensity may be variable. Second, owing to extensive necrosis and cystic changes, the T2 shine-through effect may be seen on diffusion-weighted images (DWI), and small solid portions might be missed on enhanced images. Therefore, both enhancement and DWI with apparent diffusion coefficient values should be considered. An algorithm will be suggested for the diagnostic evaluation of anterior mediastinal cystic lesions, and finally, a management strategy based on MRI features will be suggested.
