The objective of this study is to demonstrate the ability of a computer simulation of microstructural evolution in hot forging of C-Mn steels. The development of microstructure is strongly dependent on process variables and metallurgical factors that affect time history of thermodynamical variables such as temperature, strain. and strain rate during deformation. Then finite element method is applied for the prediction of microstructural evolution, and it should be coupled with heat transfer analysis to consider the change of thermodynamical properties during forming process. In this study, Yada's recrystallization model and rigid-thermoviscoplastic finite element method are employed in order to analyze microstructural evolution during hot forging process. To show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments are accomplished and the results of experiments are compared with those of simulations.
The carbonate sands of the Sabkha layer in the Middle East have very low shear strength. Therefore, instant settlement and time-dependent secondary settlement occur when inner voids are exposed, as in the case of particle crushing. We analyzed settlement of the Sabkha layer under a large-scale foundation by hydrotesting, and compared the field test results with the results of laboratory tests. With ongoing particle crushing, we observed the following stress-strain behaviors: strain-hardening (Sabkha GL-1.5 m), strain-perfect (Sabkha GL-7.0 m), and strain-softening (Sabkha GL-7.5 m). General shear failure occurred most frequently in dense sand and firm ground. Although the stress-strain behavior of Sabkha layer carbonate sand that of strain-softening, the particle crushing strength was low compared with the strain-hardening and strain-perfect behaviors. The stress-strain behaviors differ between carbonate sand and quartz sand. If the relative density of quartz sand is increased, the shear strength is also increased. Continuous secondary compression settlement occurred during the hydrotests, after the dissipation of porewater pressure. Particle crushing strength is relatively low in the Sabkha layer and its stress-strain behavior is strain-softening or strain-perfect. The particle crushing effect is dominant factor affecting foundation settlement in the Sabkha layer.

Thick soft clay deposits which are generally located at the west and south coast of the Korean peninsula have complicated characteristics according to their orientation and formation history. Thus, several geotechnical problems could possibly occur when those soft clay deposits are used as foundations for marine structures. Deep cement mixing (DCM) method is one of the most widely used soft soil improvement method for various marine structures, nowadays. DCM method injects binders such as cement into the soft ground directly and mixes with the in-situ soil to improve the strength and other geotechnical properties sufficiently. However, the natural impacts induced by dynamic motions such as ocean waves, wind, typhoon, and tusnami give significant influences on the stability of marine structures and their underlaying foundations. Thus, the dynamic properties become important design criteria to insure the seismic stability of marine structures. In this study, the dynamic behavior of cemented Busan clay is evaluated. Laboratory unconfined compression test and resonant column test are performed on natural in-situ soil and cement mixed specimens to confirm the strength and strain-dependent dynamic behavior variation induced by cement mixing treatment. Results show that the unconfined compressive strength and shear modulus increase with curing time and cement content increment. Finally, the optimized cement mixing ratio for sufficient dynamic stability is obtained through this study. The results of this study are expected to be widely used to improve the reliability of seismic design for marine structures.
The paper attempts to estimate the incubation time of a cavity in the interface between a power law creep particle and an elastic matrix subjected to a uniaxial stress. Since the power law creep particle is time dependent, the stresses in the interface relax. Through previous stress analysis related to the present physical model, the relaxation time is defined by ${\alpha}$2 which satisfies the equation $\Gamma$0 |1+${\alpha}$2k|m=1-${\alpha}$2 [19]. $\Gamma$0=2(1/√3)1+m($\sigma$$\infty$/2${\mu}$)m($\sigma$0/$\sigma$$\infty$tm) where $\sigma$$\infty$ is an applied stress, ${\mu}$ is a shear modulus of a matrix, $\sigma$$\infty$ is a material constant of a power law particle, $\sigma$=$\sigma$0 $\varepsilon$ and t elapsed time. the volume free energy associated with Helmholtz free energy includes strain energies associated with Helmholtz free energy includes strain energies caused by applied stress anddislocations piled up in interface (DPI). The energy due to DPI is found by modifying the results of Dundurs and Mura[20]. The volume free energies caused by both applied stress and DPI are a function of the cavity size(${\gamma}$) and elapsed time(t) and arise from stress relaxation in the interface. Critical radius ${\gamma}$ and incubation time t to maximize Helmholtz free energy is found in present analysis. Also, kinetics of cavity fourmation are investigated using the results obtained by Riede[16]. The incubation time is defied in the analysis as the time required to satisfy both the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions. Through the analysis it is found that [1] strain energy caused by the applied stress does not contribute significantly to the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions of a cavity formation, 2) in order to satisfy both thermodynamic and kinetic conditions, critical radius ${\gamma}$ decreases or holds constant with increase of time until the kinetic condition(eq.40) is satisfied. Therefore the cavity may not grow right after it is formed, as postulated by Harris[11], and Ishida and Mclean[12], 3) the effects of strain rate exponent (m), material constant $\sigma$0, volume fraction of the particle to matrix(f) and particle size on the incubation time are estimated using material constants of the copper as matrix.
This research explores the domain of organic solar cells, a photovoltaic technology employing organic electronics, which encompasses small organic molecules and conductive polymers for efficient light absorption and charge transport, leading to electricity generation from sunlight. A computer simulation is employed to scrutinize resonance and dynamic stability in OSCs, with a focus on size effects introduced by nonlocal strain gradient theory, incorporating additional terms in the governing equations related to displacement and time. Initially, the Navier method serves as an analytical solver to delve into the dynamics of design points. The accuracy of this initial step is verified through a meticulous comparison with high-quality literature. The findings underscore the substantial impact of viscoelastic foundations, size-dependent parameters, and geometric factors on the stability and dynamic deflection of OSCs, with a noteworthy emphasis on the amplified influence of size-dependent parameters in higher values of the different layers' thicknesses.

This paper is concerned with the analysis of elasto-plastic stress waves in a mode I semi-infinite cracked solid subjected to Heaviside pulse load. This study adopts a time-discontinuous variational integrator based on Hamiltonian in order to reduce the numerical dispersive and dissipative errors. This also utilizes an integration scheme of the constitutive model with 2nd-order accuracy which is formulated on the strain space for a rate and temperature dependent material model. Finite element analyses of elasto-plastic stress waves are carried out in order to compare the accuracy between a conventional Galerkin method and the time- discontinuous variational integrator.
The development of filament stretching extensional rheometers over the past decade has enabled the systematic measurement of the transient extensional stress growth in dilute and semi-dilute polymer solutions. The strain-hardening in the extensional viscosity of dilute solutions overwhelms the perturbative effects of capillarity, inertia & gravity and the kinematics of the extensional deformation become increasingly homogeneous at large strains. This permits the development of a robust open-loop control algorithm for rapidly realizing a deformation with constant stretch history that is desired for extensional rheometry. For entangled fluids such as concentrated solutions and melts the situation is less well defined since the material functions are governed by the molecular weight between entanglements, and the fluids therefore show much less pronounced strain-hardening in transient elongation. We use experiments with semi-dilute/entangled and concentrated/entangled monodisperse polystyrene solutions coupled with time-dependent numerical computations using nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive equations such as the Giesekus model in order to show that an open-loop control strategy is still viable for such fluids. Multiple iterations using a successive substitution may be necessary, however, in order to obtain the true transient extensional viscosity material function. At large strains and high extension rates the extension of fluid filaments in both dilute and concentrated polymer solutions is limited by the onset of purely elastic instabilities which result in necking or peeling of the elongating column. The mode of instability is demonstrated to be a sensitive function of the magnitude of the strain-hardening in the fluid sample. In entangled solutions of linear polymers the observed transition from necking instability to peeling instability observed at high strain rates (of order of the reciprocal of the Rouse time for the fluid) is directly connected to the cross-over from a reptative mechanism of tube orientation to one of chain extension.

Characteristics of premixed flames in counter-flow system are numerically studied using a detailed chemical reaction mechanism including gas phase radiation. Without radiation effect accounted, low CO and high NO$_{x}$ emission indices are observed, when strain rate decreases, due to increased residence time and higher flame temperature. Higher NO$_{2}$ production has been also observed when two premixed flames are interacting or cold air stream is mixed with burned gas. The rate of NO$_{x}$ production and destruction is dependent upon the diffusional strength of H and OH radicals, the existence of NO and the concentration of HO$_{2}$. For radiating flames, the peak temperature and NO$_{x}$ production rate decreases as the strain rate decreases. At high strain rate, it is found that the effect of radiation on flame is little due to its negligible radiating volume. It is also found that NO$_{x}$ production from the interacting premixed flame is reduced due to reduced temperature resulting from radiation heat loss. It is concluded that the radiation from gas has significant effect of flame structure and on emission characteristics.ristics.
According to the report of the WHO, workers have been exposed to much job strain such as job load, responsibility, role, interpersonal conflict etc. In Korea, studies on job strain started to become active from 1990s and now hundreds of studies are actively under going or publishing so that the studies are contributing to development and improvement of job strain. Representative measurement models of job strain are Job Strain Model of Karasek, Job Stress Model of NOISH, Korea Occupational Stress Scale, JSQ(Job Stress Questionnaire), K-OSI(Korea Version of Occupational Stress Inventory) etc. (Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012 ; KOSHA, 2003). Among them, Job Strain Model of Karasek had been loved by many researchers of job strain before Korea Occupational Stress Scale was developed. Job Strain Model of Karasek had been fitted to Korean style and then, used to analyze job strain of Korean people so that this Scale highly contributed to seeking relationship with cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disease caused by job, smoking, drug, alcohol poisoning, and pulse(Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012). But as this Model was studied and developed based on foreign culture and life pattern, a model fit to Korea was developed to measure job strain for Korean people, which is Korea Occupational Stress Scale now most frequently used in measuring job strain. Accordingly, after this study made questionnaire survey about same population using the two methods used most frequently in measuring job strain, the study investigated what features appeared, what correlations appear between two models, and comparatively analyzed characteristics each independent and dependent variable. Based on this, the study aimed to exactly express job strain of Korean people. The subjects of the study were a population of 233, and Karasek's Questionnaire and KOSS's Questionnaire were surveyed at the same time. The results were analyzed by statistical program to obtain significant difference between two models. Four particular groups were divided with Job Strain Model of Karasek and the four particular groups were measured with Korea Occupational Stress Scale. And job strain come from combination of two models was measured, with which new comparative analysis method was suggested.

Internal or external restraint of concrete strain due to drying shrinkage and creep in concrete structures causes mechanical strain and becomes a source of persistent change in creep-causing stress conditions. Mathematical modeling to incorporate the persistent change of creep-inducing stress is generally achieved with consideration of the ages of concrete and concrete properties at the times of loadings, and stress history. This paper presents an incremental format of creep model based on parallel creep concept to depict the creep under time-varying stress history in developing creep strain. Laboratory experiments are carried out to validate the performance of the presented creep model. Typical creep phenomena are addressed through the comparisons between the measured and predicted creep strains.
