간척지수도작에 있어서 Zeolite 시용효과에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Effect of Zeolite Application on Rice Growth and yield in Tidal Land)

  • 간척지 제염정도에서 유실되는 유효한 비료성분을 흡착하고 완급하여 비효를 증진시키기 위하여 토양개량제인 Zeolite를 시용하여 수도 생육과 그 수량에 미치는 영향을 시험한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1) Zeolite를 시용한 처리구에서의 토양염도 변화는 최고분얼기 이후에 무시용구에 비해 0.07∼0.12%차로 감소되었다. 2) 수도생육에 있어서 Zeolite시용 효과는 각 구 공히 Zeolite 600kg시용구가 양호하였으며 그 효과는 최고분얼기에 현저히 나타나 수량까지 영향을 미쳤다. 3) Zeolite시용구에 있어서 수수 및 일수영화수는 증수요인으로 작용하였고, 유효경율과 등숙비율은 수량과 부의 경향이었다. 4) 현미수량에 있어서 Zeolite시용 효과는 인도형인 '유신'이 일본형인 '진흥'보다 현저하게 나타났다. 5) Zeolite시용에 있어서 양 시비(표준비구와 1.5신 비구 및 품종(유신과 진흥) 처리구 공히 600kg/10a가 적정량으로 인정되었다.

일반계 벼의 brassinosteroid활성물질 검색 (Investigation of brassinosteroid substances in the shoots of japonica type Korean rice)

  • Brassinosteroid는 특이한 생리작용을 갖는 식물의 신 생장조절물질로 주목을 받고 있으나, 아직 우리나라의 가장 중요한 작물인 벼의 brassinosteroid에 대해 연구된 바 없어, 일반계 품종의 벼를 대상으로 brassinosteroid활성물질의 검색을 시도하였다. 동진벼와 영산벼를 최고분얼기까지 재배하여 지상부를 수확하고, 유기용매로 추출하여 얻어진 추출물에서 rice lamina inclination test에 의한 생물검정법으로 활성이 인정되어, 활성본체의 구명과 정제의 목적으로 각각의 활성획분을 silica gel 흡착 chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, charcoal 흡착 chromatography, preparative TLC, Bondesil chromatography 그리고 normal, reverse phase의 HPLC 등적 방법으로 분획하여 검정한 결과 2품종 모두 brassinosteroid활성물질을 생산하고 있으며, 또 2품종간의 endogenous brassinosteroid의 유사성이 인정되었다.

경유오염 농경지의 톱밥 처리효과 (Effect of Sawdust Treatment at Oil Contaminated Soil)

  • 경유로 인한 농작물 피해를 줄이기 위한 방법으로 톱밥처리 효과를 구명하기 위하여 톱밥의 경유 흡착능과 시용 효과를 상탄(上炭(Muck)), 이탄(泥炭(Peat)) 및 PEAT SORB 등과 비교, 검토한 결과, 흡착제 종류별 경유 제거효율은 톱밥과 PEAT SORB가 토탄 및 이탄에 비해 높았다. 톱밥의 경유 제거효율은 경유에 대한 처리 비율이 1:2(w/v)이상일 때 97% 이상으로 높게 나타났으며, 흡착된 경유의 재용출은 거의 없었다. 경유오염 토양에서의 톱밥 처리효과는 분얼기에 $4,000L{\cdot}ha^{-1}$의 경유를 처리하고 흡착제를 처리하지 않은 구에서는 초장과 엽록소 함량이 대조구에 비해 감소한 반면 톱밥 처리구에서는 생육이 좋았다.

  • 벼물바구미 피해정도에 따른 벼 생육 및 미질 변화에 미친 영향을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 벼물바구미 피해정도에 따라서 보면 피해정도가 심할수록 경수는 적고, 초장은 짧았으며 최고분벽기도 지연되었다. 2. 벼물바구미 피해에 의하여 출수기는 1-2일 정도 지연되었고, 간장도 짧아졌으며, 수수도 감소하였고, 등숙율은 떨어지는 경향이었다. 3. 벼물바구미 피해에 의하여 수량은 4-22% 감소하였으며, 그 정도는 1모작보다 2모작에서 심하였다. 4. 벼물바구미 피해에 의한 미질 변화는 불완전미가 증가하였고, 특히 청미가 증가하였다.

Effect of Nitrogen Split Application Methods on Development of Vascular Bundle and Yield Components of Rice Cultivars

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of split application of nitrogen(N) on development of vascular bundle(VB) and yield components of rice. Two cultivars were used in this study; IR58, an indica type and Shinunbongbyeim a japonica type. The number and total cross sectional area of the VB in the peduncle and leaf blade were more and bigger in N split application than 100 percent basal fertilizer. Nitrogen split application at necknode differentiation stage increased the number and size of the VB. Nitrogen split application resulted in increased panicle number with application of N before transplanting and at tillering stage; increased spikelets number with N application at necknode differentiation stage; and increased spikelet fertility and 1000 grain weight with N application at necknode differentiation and heading stages. Grain yield increased 7-10% in N split as compared to all basal application. The total cross sectional area of VB in peduncle closely correlated with the number of spikelets per panicle. Nitrogen management can have an impact on spikelet differentiation through more and bigger VB and increase grain yield potential.

Effects of wintering waterfowl's feces on nutrient dynamics of paddy fields and rice growth

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of the addition of wintering waterfowl's feces prior to planting rice on nutrient dynamics, rice growth, and decomposition of rice straws in a controlled mesocosm. Waterfowl's feces and rice straws were placed on paddy soils in a mesocosm and the water level maintained at 5 cm. The amounts of supplied feces were 0 (control), 222, and 444 g/$m^2$. While the addition of feces showed no immediate effects, nutrients in the surface water increased in the month following treatment. Nutrients increased to a greater degree in the treatments with more feces added. Simultaneously, the decomposition of rice straws was promoted, indicating that more nutrients would be made available over time. The rice showed high productivity in the period during which nutrient level was increased, when rice needs more nutrients for the tillering stage. Therefore, the wintering waterfowl's feces could be associated with increased productivity during the growing season of rice through promoting nutrient supply and rapid decomposition of rice residue.

Inheritence, linkage and Possible Use of Fractured Starch Mutant in Barley (Hordeum Vulga L.)

  • In order to breed barley lines with reduced viscosity of wort, a fractured starch mutant of naked barley cultivar, Nubet, was obtained from the M2 seeds mutated by the diethyl sulfate treatment. Seeds of this fractured starch mutant were opaque and the endosperm consists of angular, irregular and fractured starch. The mutant was caused by single recessive mutation and assigned by the symbol fra. The gene was located on chromosome 4, distal in long arm by linkage recombinations using translocation homozygote lethal test set. The linkage value between the fractured starch mutant and 72-4a, 72-4d were 26.0$\pm$4.9, 34.2$\pm$3.1 percent respectively. In addition to the reduced seed size, fewer kernels per spike and higher tillering ability, lower $\beta$-glucan viscosity and higher lysine content of the grain were associated with this mutant. $\beta$-glucan viscosity of the Nubet grains increased from 3 weeks after anthesis to matury and most of the viscose substances appeared to be stored in the middle of the endosperm tissue. Since the mutant grains showed better milling property as compared to Nubet, it can be used as breeding resources to develope new barley cultivars for maltins and milling purpose.

Comparison of Nitrogen Application Methods at the 4th Leaf Stage in Direct-Seeded Rice Field

  • Two methods of nitrogen application at the 4th leaf stage were evaluated in direct-seeding rice cultivation on dry paddy soil: one was the top dressing of nitrogen on dry paddy condition before irrigation (TNDP) for labor saving, and the other was the top dressing of nitrogen on dry paddy with mechanical rotavation of the inter-row space (TNDPIR) for increasing the efficiency of nitrogen. To evaluate these two application methods, leaf chlorophyll contents, growth characteristics and yields were compared with two conventional methods, basal application (BA) and top dressing on flooded paddy condition at the 4th leaf stage (TNFP). The SPAD value of rice in TNDP was similar with that in TNFP throughout the whole growth stage of rice. Also, there were no differences in rice growth and yield between the two methods. However, in TNDPIR, the SPAD value was the highest during tillering stage among the four application methods, and the tiller number, LAI at heading stage and the panicle number were higher than the two conventional methods.

깎기주기, 통기작업, 시비수준 및 비료종류가 한국 잔디의 품질 및 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effect of mowing interval, aeration, and fertility level on the turf quality and growth of zoysiagrass( Zoysia japonica Steud.))

  • This study was conducted to provide basic understandings for proper management of zoysiagrass fairways. Mowing intervals of 2, 4 and 6-days, with and without aeration were compared at two fertility levels. Turfgrass quality, growth and pest infestation were evaluated. Turf density, number of tillers, leaf width and resiliency were significantly affected by mowing frequency. Turfgrass plots mowed every 2-day had greater density, tillering, and resiliency but had narrower leaf width compared to other mowing treatments. Clipping dry weight with every 2-day mowing increased in the early stage of mowing treatment regardless of fertilizer application rates but gradually decreased in the later stage of mowing treatment compared to every 4 or 6-day mowings. The dry weight of above-ground part was not affected by mowing frequency, but that of underground part was significantly higher for every 6-day mowing frequency(3.3kg/day/m2) compared to every 2 or 4-day mowings. The organic mater content in soil was not different among mowing treatments but it was significantly reduced by the core aerification treatment, indicating significant effect of core aerification on thatch decomposition. Occurrences of weeds such as annual bluegrass and crabgrass according to mowing frequency were greater in every 2-day mowing treatment, while plots mowed every 6 days had less weed occurrence. Occurrence of rusts significantly increased in high fertility plots and frequently mowed turfgrasses.

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae triggers complex transcriptomic defense network in rice

  • High throughput transcriptome investigations of immunity in plants highlight the complexity of gene networks leading to incompatible interaction. To identify genes crucial to resistance against Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae, functional genetic analysis of selected differentially expressed genes from our microarray data set was carried out. A total of 13 overexpression vector constructs were made using 35S CaMV promoter which drive constitutive expression in rice. Most of the genes are developmentally expressed especially during maximum tillering stage and are commonly highly expressed in the leaves. When screened against Xoo strain K2, the transgenic plants displayed shorter lesion length compared with wild type Dongjin which indicates partial resistance. The levels of ROS continuously magnified after inoculation which indicates robust cellular sensing necessary to initiate cell death. Elevated transcripts levels of several defense-related genes at the downstream of defense signal network also corroborate the phenotype reaction of the transgenic plants. Moreover, expression assays revealed regulation of these genes by cross-communicating signal-transductions pathways mediated by salicylic and jasmonic acid. These collective findings revealed the key immune signaling conduits critical to mount full defense against Xoo.
