  • Training power tiller operators in safe farming is necessary to avoid farming accidents. With the continuing progress in computational technology, driving simulators have become increasingly popular for conducting such training. Purpose: The objective of this study is to develop mock control devices and data acquisition apparatus for a tiller simulator. Methods: Except for the stand and tail wheel adjusting levers, the mock control devices were developed using a tiller handle assay. The data acquisition apparatus was realized using an embedded data-logging device and LabVIEW, the system design software. Results: The control devices of a real handle assay were successfully mimicked by the mock operator control devices, which used sensors for the relevant measurements. The data from the mock devices were acquired and transmitted to the main computer at intervals of 10 ms via Wi-Fi. Conclusions: The developed mock control devices operate similar to real power tillers and can be utilized in power tiller training simulators.

  • Taking a bledes axle of rotary tiller as a example, this paper discusses influences of four loading essential factors, which are strengthened amplitude, cycle times, loading sequence and loading frequency. in fatigue life. Determination principles of above four factors and monitoring methods of fatigue damage by local strain are dealt with. The actual field testing check of farm machinery is rapidly simulated by laboratory program fatigue test can shorten the period of development and improvement of a product. In the time of in-door simulation test, damage monitoring and four loading essential factors, which are strengthened amplitude , cycle times, loading sequence and loading frequency, have to be dealt with . If these problems are solved successfully, it is possible to accelerated test speed, reduce costs and manhours, and raise accuracy of test result. However strengthening method, loading pattern and influence of loading frequency on test result have not so far been discu sed systematically, damage monitoring is even more a difficult problem. Authors have studied above problems with the object of blades axle of rotary tiller.

  • The optimal shape modeling of core parts through 3D modeling and structural analysis for the development of small and medium-sized ships. The goal is to improve the efficient structure of the hydraulic system for controlling the rudder among the core steering parts in small and medium-sized ships. Through 3D modeling and structural analysis, a new concept of tiller parts and a double-acting hydraulic cylinder control system were proposed and operational structural stability was evaluated. Structural analysis of the three different tiller designs that can be replaceable onto existing fishing vessels was conducted to derive the final shapes. The emphasis was placed on evaluating the structural stability of the key drive components, the tiller, pin, and cylinder rodin the maximum torque condition of the hydraulic cylinder.

  • In Korean high yielding varieties developed by crosses between indica and japonica rice, the most limiting factor for yield may be attributed to the less number of the tillers in the unit area. The goals of this study is to find out the effect of the temperature factors as well as cultural practices on the development and increase of tillers of Dasanbyeo, the high yielding indica crossed japonica cultivar. The effect of temperature was examined under controlled phytotron condition with 6 levels of temperature, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24 and 26$^{\circ}C$, respectively, For the experiment, the leading japonica variety in Korea, Hwaseongbyeo, was used for the check cultivar for the comparison with Dasanbyeo. The high temperature also accelerated the initiation and termination of tiller development. The cultivar difference in the speed of tiller development was observed, for example, more rapid development of tiller in Dasanbyeo than in Hwaseongbyeo was observed at the high temperature range of 24-26$^{\circ}C$, while the vice versa phenomena was observed at lower temperature range of 17-22$^{\circ}C$. The first secondary tiller of Dasanbyeo was observed on the 16, 17, 23, 27 and 38 days after transplanting (DAT) at 26$^{\circ}C$, 24$^{\circ}C$, 22$^{\circ}C$, 19$^{\circ}C$, and 17$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Those of Hwaseongbyeo was 19-22, and 26 DAT at 19-26$^{\circ}C$ and 17$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The last effective tiller of Dasanbyeo was observed on 27-33 DAT for the primary tiller, 20-41 DAT for the secondary tiller. Those of Hwaseongbyeo were 23-40 DAT for primary tiller, and 24-40 DAT for the secondary tiller, and 24-40 DAT for the secondary tiller.

  • This research was carried out to determine the effect of controlling nitrogen application on tiller development, yield, and quality of rice under scanty or excess seedling stands in direct-seeded rice on flooded soil surface. Seedling stand was set to 3 levels: scanty $(60/m^2)$, optimum $(120/m^2)$, and excess $(200/m^2)$. In the scanty plot, additional 4 kg/10a nitrogen was applied at the 3rd leaf stage to promote tiller development. On the other hand, applying 3.3 kg/10a nitrogen at 5th leaf stage in the excess plot was omitted to suppress tillering. Maximum numbers of tillers per plant were 15.2 and 8.6 in scanty and excess plots, respectively, as compared with 9.8 in optimum plot. Productive tiller rate decreased with the increase in number of seedling stands. Regardless of seedling density, the first tiller developed on the 3rd node of rice stem from the bottom. The primary tillers developed at 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 nodes in scanty plot, 3, 4, 5 nodes in optimum plot, and 3, 4 nodes in excess plot. The secondary tillers developed only in some portion of plants in scanty and optimum plots. The order of tiller emergence was negatively correlated to stem length, panicle length, non-productive tiller number, grain number per panicle, and fertility in scanty plot, and to perfect grain ratio in excess plot. In the optimum plot, however, the order of tiller emergence was not correlated to any of the mentioned characteristics. The perfect grain ratio of scanty plot was the highest because green-kerneled rice was a very small portion in the primary tillers as compared with those of optimum and excess plots. Yield indexes of scanty and excess plots were 99%, and 97%, respectively, of the yield (494 kg/10a) in optimum plot. In conclusion, when seedling stands are not at optimum level, rice yield and quality similar to optimum planting density level can be obtained by means of controlling nitrogen application.

  • IRRI Engineering Division has developed a well drilling rig attachment that matched power tiller or hand tractor. It was designed in response to the growing demand for ground water utilization for small-scale irrigation, especially in drought-sticken and rained farms in Asian countries. The power tiller-driven rig can drill 30 meters of 100mm well in an unconsolidated formation in one day and can be rapidly converted from rotary to jetting or to the percussion method of drilling to suit different soil and rock formation. In addition, the power tiller can be quickly installed or removed from the rig frame and can be used for transporting the rig to other sites. The rig can be dismantled into smaller sub-assemblies for carrying by hand into less accessible areas. One manufacturer in Central luzon Philippines has started to produce the rig for well drillers in Central Luzon. The Department of Agriculture in the Philippines have procured thirty three(33) units of these machines f r their Shallow Tubewell program.
