In this study, SWMM model is used to reproduce the main storm sewer system located in the Nae-Hang drainage basin of the Mokpo city and keep track of flood discharge. Given the outlet of the reaches border the coastline, this paper has taken the dual-drainage approach to perform inundation simulation, considering both the overflows and inflows at the manholes of the sewer system, and at the same time, taking the impacts of tidal stage into consideration. The following conclusions are reached in this study: First, when planning lowland sewer system alongside the coastline or the riverside, the tidal stage or flood stage need to be considered in the planning and design processes. Second, an analysis that fails to consider overflow and inundation at the manholes may overestimate inundation depth of the flooded area. In other words, in order to estimate flood discharge and flood stage in a lowland storm sewer system, it is desirable to analyze the conveyance capacity of storm sewer system and simulate overflow and inundation at the manholes at the same time.
A two-dimensional non-linear tidal model has been established to calculate the M$\_$2/ tide of Inchon Bay in the west coast of Korea. Cartesian coordinates are used for the derivation of the governing equations and account is taken of extensive drying boundaries (tidal flats) which are exposed at low tides. The tidal amplitudes and phases computed from the model agree well with those known from observation lying within bounds 5cm in amplitude and 5 in phase relative to the observed results. The work represents a further stage in the development including extensive sea measurements capable of application in various coastal engineering problems encountered in Inchon Bay area.

In the tidal compartment, the hydraulic head is affected by the stage of tidal rivers. For groundwater or construct works, head variation of groundwater should be considered in zone of this aquifer. A numerical analysis is performed which has an 1-dimemsional explicit finite difference scheme to show the head variation of groundwater with tidal stage and hydraulic conductivity, etc. The stability of the numerical scheme is validated by using the analytic solution. The head variation of groundwater is observed for various tidal amplititude and hydraulic conductivity, mean hydraulic gradient and pumping at any point. The range of influence corresponding to the parameters used in this study is about 60m. This value is not beyond a wave length (equation omitted). There was a pumping at a constant rate out of aquifers affected by tide and not affected by tide. Because pumping head in aquifer affected by tide is short, the expense of electric power is economized in this zone. These results are applicable to trace of contaminant transport, efficient operation of groundwater, and examination of the safety and stability of works in the tidal compartment.
Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Dupont 2.5m telescope we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 39 AGN which are brighter than M = -22 mag and nearer than z = 0.3. We found that 16 to 17 of 39 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via careful visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 early type galaxies of which surface brightness limit and bulge magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of early type galaxy samples in the whole range of bulge magnitude. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. At least - 1/4 of control samples classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one (5.9%) of AGN sample classified as merger shows shell structures, and almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. From point of view that tidal tail may be at the early stage of merging, and shell may be at the late stage of mergers, this result suggests that AGN might be evolved into early-type galaxies after merging.
Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 26 AGN which are brighter than M = -22.2 mag and nearer than z = 0.2. We found that 9 to 12 of 26 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 galaxies. Surface brightness limit and magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of normal galaxy samples. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. About ~1/4 of control sample classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one of the AGN sample shows shell structures. Almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. From point of view that tidal tail may be at the early stage of merging, and shell may be at the late stage of mergers, this result implies that AGN may be evolved into early-type galaxies after merging.
This study was Performed to analyze desalinization effects of gypsum treatments in reclaimed tidal lands and to obtain the basic data for developing prediction techniques of desalinization to be applicable to reclaimed tidal lands at the beginning stage.
In tidal rivers, the river level, discharge and tide are interrelated. Therefore, the stage-discharge relation that takes no account of tidal effects is inaccurate. For the calculation of river discharge in low water level, this paper attempts to formulate a multiple regression equation of stage-discharge curve to calculate the river discharge in low water level with variables as river level and differences between sea level and river level. Numerical application were perfonned on Ulsan gaging station in Taehwa river, and the comparison with existing rating curve equation showed good applicability of this multiple regression equation.uation.
Researches and developments of tidal energy converters are close to commercialization stage. But, commercialization of tidal energy converters is not ready in korea. In Europe, many experts of company, laboratory and public institution involved in marine energy are active for commercialization of marine energy converters in European Marine Energy Centre. Furthermore, in IEC/TC114, standardization of technical standards for assessment and certification of tidal energy converters of each country is under discussion. Therefore, We have to prepare for commercialization, standardization and entry into the overseas market. In this study, trends of commercialization and standardization of international markets of marine energy converters are investigated and certification schemes of overseas are analyzed. We expect that this study will make contribution to establish the foundation of commercialization of tidal energy converters.
In this study, a flood routing model is used for analyzing change of flood stage induced by various factors. The results by using the past cross section measurement data showed the minimum error in case of accurate measurement of cross section as well as reasonable boundary condition of model. In analyzing the rise of flood stage of main stream considering Inflow magnitude of tributary, it showed that the larger the flow magnitude is, the smaller the variance of stage is. The results of analysis in the tidal effect at Wolgot are that the tidal effect influence the stage profile into upstream in case of normal discharge of main stream and tributary but doesn't influence it even with maximum flood tide in case of project flood. Finally, when the various hydraulic factors are considered in numerical analysis, more systematic and realistic flood forecast system is able to be performed.
To understand the changes in physical parameters and phytoplankton size structure caused by tides, a fixed station in the Youngsan River estuary was monitored at 2-h intervals, on April 28, 2012 and August 12, 2012. No clear relationship was observed between the temperature and salinity changes and tidal levels in April. However, in August, temperature decreased during the ebb tide and increased during the flood tide, while salinity showed the opposite trend. In addition, there was no specific change in the phytoplankton biomass corresponding to tidal levels in April. In August, the total chlorophyll a and the biomass of net phytoplankton (>$20{\mu}m$) increased almost 20 times during the ebb tide and decreased during the flood tide. The biomass of nanophytoplankton (<$20{\mu}m$) showed a similar variation in response to tidal level changes. In April, the relationship between percent contributions of phytoplankton size structure and tidal levels was not clear. In August, the net phytoplankton was dominant in the early stage and nanophytoplankton was dominant in the later stage, while contribution of nanophytoplankton and net phytoplankton increased at high tide and low tide, respectively. Therefore, in April, other factors such as freshwater discharge were more important than the tide, whereas in August, when no freshwater discharge was recorded, the changes in semidiurnal tides influenced the physical parameters and phytoplankton dynamics. These results could contribute to the understanding of phytoplankton dynamics in the Youngsan River estuary.
