인공 간석지 창출에 있어서 토양구조를 결정하는 인자에 관한 연구 (Study on Controlling Factors for Soil Structure in Creation of Man-made Tidal Flat)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the controlling factors to construct tidal flat ecosystems having similar characteristics as natural ones. We transplanted the soil in a constructed tidal flat to a natural one and vice versa. Parameters monitored after these transplantations were silt content, organic matter, bacterial population and oxidation-reduction potential. Moreover, the relationship among silt content, organic matter and bacterial population was investigated by laboratory column experiment. The silt content, organic matter, bacterial population and vertical profile of oxidation-reduction potential in the soil transplanted from the constructed tidal flat to the natural one changed to similar values to those in the natural one. On the contrary, all the parameters for the soil transplanted from the natural tidal flat to the constructed one changed to similar values as those in the constructed one. The silt contents in thses two transplanted solis were in proportion to the organic carbon contents and bacterial population. Similarly, the bacterial population in laboratory column experiment increased with the increase in silt and organic matter contents. It seemed to be important to select a place to enhance accumulative of silt and/or to maintain the silt content by hydrodynamic control of seawater in order to construct a tidal flat having similar characteristics as natural one.

비식생 갯벌 표층과 대기의 이산화탄소 플럭스 계절 변동 분석: 벌교 갯벌 (Seasonal Variation of Carbon Dioxide Flux between Soil Surface Layer and Atmosphere in Unvegetated Tidal Flat : Beolgyo Tidal Flat)

  • In this study, we analyzed seasonal variations in carbon dioxide fluxes, concentrations, and soil temperatures over three years in unvegetated tidal flats in the Beolgyo area. We also investigated the correlations between carbon dioxide fluxes and influencing factors. The average carbon dioxide flux was positive in summer and autumn but negative in winter and spring. A positive correlation was observed between carbon dioxide flux and soil temperature in spring whereas a negative correlation was noted in summer. In summer and autumn, as the soil temperature increased, the carbon dioxide flux decreased. In contrast, in spring and winter, as the soil temperature decreased, the carbon dioxide flux increased. Overall, this study reveals the significant influence of soil temperatures on carbon dioxide fluxes between the surface layer of the tidal flat and atmosphere.

인공 간석지 창출에 있어서 토양조성에 관한 연구 (Study on Construction of Soil Structure in Creation of Man-made Tidal Flat)

  • 자연간석지 토양을 인공간석지에 인공간석지 토양을 자연간석지에 이식하고, 이식토양의 물리화학적 및 생물학적 특성의 변화를 추적하였다. 또한 실트함량과 유기물함량이 미생물현존량에 미치는 영향에 관해서 실내실험을 통하여 검토하였다. 자연간석지 토양을 인공간석지에 인공간석지 토양을 자연간석지에 이식한 결과, 실트함량, 유기물함량, 미생물현존량 및 토양중의 산화환원전위층은 시간의 경과와 함께 이식한 간석지의 토양구조와 동일하게 변이해 가는 것을 알았다. 또한 이식 토양중의 실트함량, 미생물현존량 및 유기물함량과는 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. 실트함량 및 유기물함량의 증감과 함께 미생물현존량이 비례해서 증감하는 것을 알았다. 또한 실내실험 결과에서도 실트함량이나 유기물함량의 증가와 함께 미생물현존량이 증가하였다. 또한 그 원인은 실트함량이 증가함에 따른 결과라는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • 연안역 개발로 인해 갯벌의 면적이 급감하고 있는 현실에서 대체 갯벌의 조성을 위해 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 인공갯벌 조성을 위한 연구사업의 일환으로, 자연적으로 형성된 갯벌지반과 인위적으로 조성된 갯벌지반의 지반공학적인 특성을 비교$.$고찰하고 그 결과를 토대로 인공갯벌 지반의 안정성을 평가하기 위하여 교란 및 불교란시료를 이용한 각종 실내실험을 실시하였다. 실내실험에서 측정된 전단강도와 조류와 파랑으로 인해 유발되는 전단응력을 비교하여 갯벌에 퇴적된 토사의 안정성에 대해 검토하였다.

SAR 자료를 이용한 갯벌 퇴적환경 특성 연구 (Application of SAR DATA to the Study on the Characteristics of Sedimentary Environments in a Tidal Flat)

  • 이 연구에서는 토양의 유전상수 (dielectric constant) 표면의 거칠기 (surface roughness)와 지표면의 기하 (geometric) 등과 같은 다양한 물리적 요소들의 정보를 포함하고 있는 SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) 자료를 이용하여 강화도 갯벌의 표층 퇴적환경을 분석하였다. JERS-1, ENVISAT과 ALOS 위성의 다양한 SAR 자료로부터 레이더 후방산란계수 (backscattering coefficient)를 추출하여 각 퇴적환경 요소들과의 관계를 파악하고 시간변화에 따른 지표의 변화 정도를 알 수 있는 긴밀도 (coherence)를 추출하여 퇴적상과 비교하였다. SAR 영상으로부터 추출한 후방산란계수와 긴밀도를 이용한 강화도 갯벌 퇴적환경 특성을 분석한 결과 높은 긴밀도를 갖는 지역은 입도가 작은 펄이 많이 포함된 펄 퇴적상이며 긴밀도가 낮을수록 큰 입도가 많이 분포하는 지역임을 알 수 있었다. 강화도 갯벌은 다른 갯벌과는 달리 조류로가 많이 발달하여 썰물 시 수분함유량에 많은 영향을 주어 모래 퇴적상과 혼합 퇴적상은 갯벌의 노출시간이 증가함에 따라 토양 수분함유량이 감소하여 후방산란계수가 점차 감소한다. 그러나 펄 퇴적상에서는 지형 고도가 높아 해수의 많은 영향을 받지 않으며 조류로의 밀도가 높기 때문에 토양 수분함유량이 감소하지만 후방산란계수가 높게 나타났다. 또한 갯벌은 토양 수분함유량뿐만 아니라 표면에 남아있는 잔존수도 많아 강우량이 많은 날은 지표 잔존수가 증가하기 때문에 비교적 후방산란계수가 낮게 나타나는 경향을 보였다. 이 연구의 결과, 긴밀도, 후방산란계수와 각 퇴적환경 요소들의 상관관계를 알 수 있었으며, 향후 강화도 갯벌 퇴적환경의 공간적 분석을 위해 각각의 요소들이 미치는 영향에 대한 정량적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

다양한 토양 환경에서 Methyl tert-Butyl Ether와 그의 대사산물이 노출되었을 때 미생물 군집에 미치는 영향: 논, 밭, 갯벌 시료 비교 (Effect of Methyl tert-butyl Ether and Its Metabolites on the Microbial Population: Comparison of Soil Samples from Rice Field, Leek Patch and Tidal Mud Flat)

  • Toxic effect of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and formaldehyde (FA) on microbial activity and diversity was compared in rice field, leek patch, and tidal mud flat soil samples. MTBE, TBA and FA with different concentrations were added into microcosms containing these soil samples, and placed at room temperature for 30 days. Then the microbial activities such as dehydrogenase and viable cell numbers and microbial community using a DGGE (Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) fingerprinting method were measured. Among the samples, dehydrogenase activity in rice field was inhibited the most by MTBE, TBA and FA. The toxic effect was higher according to the following orders: FA > MTBE > TBA. Dominant species in the microcosms contaminated with MTBE, TBA and FA were Chloroflex, Bacilli, gamma-proteobacteria in the rice field sample, Sphingobacteria, Flavobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacilli, gamma-proteobacteria in the leek patch sample, and Sphingobacteria, Flavobacteria, delta-proteobacteria, gamma-proteobacteria in the tidal mud flat sample.

논과 갯벌에서 톨루엔의 혐기성 생분해에 미치는 전자수용체의 영향 (Effect of Electron Acceptor on Anaerobic Toluene Biodegradation in Rice Field and Tidal Mud Flat)

  • In oil-contaminated environments, anaerobic biodegradation of toluene depended on the concentration and distribution of terminal electron acceptor as well as the physicochemical properties such as DO concentration, redox potential and pH. This study showed the anaerobic biodegradation of toluene in two different soils by using nitrate reduction, ferric iron reduction, sulfate reduction and methanogensis. Toluene degradation rates in the soil samples taken from rice filed and tidal mud flat by nitrate reduction were higher than those by other processes. Tho soil samples from the two fields were enriched for 130 days by providing toluene as a sole carbon source and nitrate or sulfate as a terminal electron acceptor. The toluene degradation rates in the enriched denitrifying consortia obtained from the rice field and tidal mud flat soil were 310.7 and 200.6 $\mu$mol$ L^{-1}$ / $d^{-1}$, respectively. The toluene (legradation rates in the enriched sulfate-reducing consortia from the fields ranged fi-om 149.1 to 86.1$\mu$mol $L^{-1}$ / $d^{-1}$ .

Property Analyses of Deposits and Landform in Tidal Flat using Satellite Image

  • Through the ISODATA method, the micro-landform of Julpo-Bay tidal flat was classified into mudflat, mixedflat, and sandflat using Landsat TM image. Each showed an apparent differences in its topographical characteristics and grain size composition. For example, mudflats are formed with flat faces and tidal channel of dissected gully. Its characteristics of grain size analysis that the grains have less than mean grain size 4 phi. Its sorting is bad (higher than 1 S.D.), and it showed strongly positive skewness. But sandflat is topographically flat without tidal channel. It has developed with ripple marks. According to the grain size analysis of deposits, the soil is coarse size with 90% of sand and its sorting is well(lower than 1 S.D.) Also, it showed strongly negative skewness. Mixed flat is in between mudflat and sandflat in its characteristics.

Simple assessment of wind erosion depending on the soil texture and threshold wind velocity in reclaimed tidal flat land

  • The objectives of this paper were to simply estimate soil loss levels as caused by wind in reclaimed tidal flat land (RTFL) and the threshold wind velocity in the RTFL. For this experiment, RTFL located at Haenam Bay was selected and a total of 150 soil samples were collected at the Ap horizon from the five soil series. The particle distribution curves, including the limit of the non-erodible particle size (D > 0.84 mm) for each Ap horizon soil, show that the proportions of non-erodible particle sizes that exceeded 0.84 mm were 4.3% (Taehan, TH), 8.9% (Geangpo, GP), 0.5% (Bokchun, BC), 1.6% (Poseung, PS) and 1.4% (Junbook, JB), indicating that the amount of non-erodible soil particles increased with an increase in the sand content. The average monthly, daily and instantaneous wind velocities were higher than the threshold friction velocity (TFV) calculated according to the dynamic velocity (Vd) by Bagnold, while the average monthly wind velocity was lower than those of the TFV suggested by the revised wind erosion equation (RWEQ) and wind erosion prediction system (WEPS). The susceptible proportions of erodible soil particles from the Ap horizon soil samples from each soil series could be significantly influenced by the proportion of sand particles between 0.025 and 0.5 mm (or 0.84 mm) in diameter regardless of the threshold wind velocity. Thus, further investigations are needed to estimate more precisely soil erosion in RTFL, which shows various soil characteristics, as these estimations of soil loss in the five soil series were obtained only when considering wind velocities and soil textures.

Relationships between Methane Production and Sulfate Reduction in Reclaimed Rice Field Soils

  • The change in relationships between methane production and sulfate reduction was investigated in reclaimed rice field soils at different time points after reclamation of tidal flat in Korea. Sulfate concentrations of soils in the ca. 60-year-old and 26-year-old reclaimed rice fields were much lower than that in a natural tidal flat. During 60 d of anaerobic incubation, total methane production and sulfate consumption of the soil slurries were 7.0 ${\mu}$mol $CH_4$/g and 8.2 ${\mu}$mol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in the 60-year-old rice field, 5.6 ${\mu}$mol $CH_4$/g and 12.7 mmol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in the 26-year-old rice field, and ca. 0 mmol $CH_4$/g and 22.4 ${\mu}$mol $SO_4^{2-}$/g in a natural tidal flat. Relative percent electron flow through sulfate reduction in the 60-year-old rice field was much lower (50.8%) compared with the 26-year-old rice field (69.3%) and the tidal flat (99.9%). The addition of an inhibitor of methanogenesis (2-bromoethanesulfonate) had no effect on sulfate reduction in the soil slurries of the reclaimed rice fields. However, instant stimulation of methane production was achieved with addition of an inhibitor of sulfate reduction (molybdate) in the soil slurries from the 26-year-old reclaimed rice field. The specific inhibitor experiments suggest that the relationship of methanogenesis and sulfate reduction might become mutually exclusive or syntrophic depending on sulfate content in the soil after reclamation. Sulfate, thus sulfate reduction activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria, would be an important environmental factor that inhibits methane production and determines the major pathway of electron and carbon flow in anaerobic carbon mineralization of reclaimed rice field soils.
