In this paper, a numerical permissible disturbance model is proposed to preserve a throughput performance of a 2.4 GHz wireless LAN service. The model is composed of two parameters, a peak value and a time rate of noise signal. The model parameters are experimentally determined from an APD parameter measurement. The APD parameter is measured by using the APD measurement method which is recommended from CISPR/A/447/CD.

An approximation algorithm is presented for cyclic queueing networks with finite buffers. The algorithm decomposes the queueing network into individual queues with revised arrival and service process and revised queue capacity. Then, each queue is analyzed in isolation. The service process reflects the additional delay a unit might undergo due to blocking and the arrival process is described by a 2-phases Coxian ($C_2$) distribution. The individual queues are modelled as $C_2/C_2$/1/B queues. The parameters of the individual queues are computed approximately using an iterative scheme. The population constraint of the closed network is taken into account by ensuring that the sum of the average queue lengths of the individual queues is equal to the number of customers of the network. Extensive numerical experiments show that this method provides a fairly good estimation of the throughput.
This paper focuses on codebook-based precoding for space-division multiple access/orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (SDMA-OFDMA) systems aiming to guarantee high throughput for their users as well as to mitigate interference to fixed satellite service (FSS). A systematic design of SDMA codebook for subband-based OFDMA is proposed, which forms multiple orthogonal beams with common spatial null in the direction of a victim FSS earth station (ES). The design enables both transmitter and receiver to independently construct identical codebook by sharing only on the direction angle of an FSS ES, which takes fewer overhead bits than Gram-Schmidt process, a general method satisfying our design criterion. A system-level throughput evaluation shows that the proposed precoding provides superior performance over existing spectrum sharing method, that is, subband deactivation. The spectrum sharing analysis shows that the proposed precoding, even with an estimation error of the direction angles of an FSS ES, causes lower interference than existing precoding, knockdown precoding.

In this paper, we present an analytical method for estimating the saturation throughput of an 802.11 ad hoc LAN in the presence of noise distorting transmitted frames. This is the first method that allows studying analytically the 802.11 network performance with consideration of correlated channel failures usually inherent to realistic wireless channels. With the study, we consider the possible packet fragmentation that can be adopted to reduce the performance degradation caused by noise-induced distortions. In addition to the throughput, our method allows estimating the probability of a packet rejection occurring when the number of packet transmission retries attains its limit. The obtained numerical results of investigating 802.11 LANs by the developed method are validated by simulation and show high estimation accuracy as well as the method efficiency in determining the optimal fragmentation threshold.

Majority of the wireless ad hoc routing protocols are proposed to find feasible routes without considering the network load, end-to-end link quality and bandwidth requirements of the application. Therefore, protocol may not provide sufficient quality of service (QoS) to a high speed traffic such as multimedia. In this paper, we propose a path-quality and bandwidth-estimation based routing protocol (PBBR) for the high quality multimedia stream that can meet the application's bandwidth requirements and find the best reliable route. The novelty of this protocol is to select a reliable path to respond the application's requirements based on available bandwidth at each intermediate node and end-to-end path loss ratio. Obtained results from the simulation demonstrates that our protocol can achieve sufficient performance in terms of throughput and end-to-end delay.

State-of-charge (SOC) is one of the significant indicators to estimate the driving range of the electric vehicle and to control the alternator of the conventional engine vehicles as well. Therefore its precise estimation is crucial not only for utilizing the energy effectively but also preventing critical situations happening to the power train and lengthening the lifetime of the battery. However, lead-acid battery is time-variant, highly nonlinear, and the hysteresis phenomenon causes large errors in estimation SOC of the battery especially under the frequent discharge/charge. This paper proposes a novel estimation technique for the SOC of the Lead-Acid battery by using a well-known Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and an electrical equivalent circuit model of the Lead-Acid battery considering diffusion and hysteresis characteristics. The diffusion is considered by the reconstruction of the open circuit voltage decay depending on the rest time and the hysteresis effect is modeled by calculating the normalized integration of the charge throughput during the partial cycle. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through the experiments.

HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) is a promising technology for delivering video content over the Internet. HAS-based video streaming solutions rely on bandwidth estimation to select the appropriate video bitrate. Video streaming solutions that consider network conditions provide users with seamless video playback. However, when multiple clients compete for a common bottleneck link, conventional bandwidth estimation schemes that consider only one client overestimate the network bandwidth due to the ON-OFF traffic pattern. The bandwidth overestimation can cause Quality of Experience (QoE) degradation, such as unnecessary changes in video quality, and unfairness of video quality. In this paper, we propose a client-side bandwidth estimation scheme to obtain a better QoE of HAS in the multiple-client environment. The proposed scheme differentiates the client buffer status according to the buffer occupancy, and then estimates the available network bandwidth based on the buffer status and segment throughput. We evaluate the performance of HAS implemented in the ns-3 network simulator. Simulation results show that compared with the conventional schemes, the proposed scheme can enhance the QoE.
TCP packets occupy over 90% of current Internet traffic thus understanding of TCP throughput is crucial to understand Internet. Under the TCP congestion regime, heterogeneous flows, i.e., flows with different round-trip times (RTTs), that share the same bottleneck link will not attain equal portions of the available bandwidth. In fact, according to the TCP friendly formula, the throughput ratio of two flows is inversely proportional to the ratio of their RTTs. It has also been shown that TCP's unfairness to flows with longer RTTs is accentuated under loss synchronization. In this paper, we show that, injecting bursty background traffic may actually lead to new type of synchronization and result in unfairness to foreground TCP flows with longer RTTs. We propose three different metrics to characterize traffic burstiness and show that these metrics are reliable predictors of TCP unfairness.

Multi-user Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) has potential for prominently enhancing the capacity of wireless network by simultaneously transmitting to multiple users. User selection is an unavoidable problem which bottlenecks the gain of MU-MIMO to a great extent. Major state-of-the-art works are focusing on improving network throughput by using Channel State Information (CSI), however, the overhead of CSI feedback becomes unacceptable when the number of users is large. Some work does well in balancing tradeoff between complexity and achievable throughput but is lack of consideration of fairness. Current works universally ignore the rational utilizing of time resources, which may lead the improvements of network throughput to a standstill. In this paper, we propose TOUSE, a scalable and fair user selection scheme for MU-MIMO. The core design is dynamic-time-warping-based user selection mechanism for downlink MU-MIMO, which could make full use of concurrent transmitting time. TOUSE also presents a novel data-rate estimation method without any CSI feedback, providing supports for user selections. Simulation result shows that TOUSE significantly outperforms traditional contention-based user selection schemes in both throughput and fairness in an indoor condition.

Traditional anti-collision algorithms determine slot size of initial frame based on the information of number of collision slots, idle slots, and success slots. Since there is no information about collision at the beginning of tag information collection, traditional anti-collision algorithms can not determine the initial frame size. Considering that performance of anti-collision algorithm is very sensitive to initial slot size traditional anti-collision algorithms need some improvements. In this study two methods are proposed to determine slot size of initial frame efficiently, through which we can improve the performance of dynamic frame slotted aloha algorithm. To verify the performance of proposed algorithms, 2.4GHz RFID system is used. Throughput and delay time are derived through simulation, which is developed using JAVA. We have seen that proposed algorithm improves throughput by 9.6% and delay time by 9.8%.
