  • A three-dimensional (3D) display system based on computer-generated integral photography (CGIP) is proposed and its feasibility is discussed. Instead of the pickup process in conventional If, the elemental images of imaginary objects are computer-generated. Using these images, we observed autostereoscopic 3D images in full color and full parallax. The lateral and depth resolutions of the integrated images are limited by some factors such as the image position, object thickness, the lens width, and the pixel size of display panel.

  • Integral floating is three-dimensional display technique which is a combination of integral imaging and floating display. In this paper, we explain and analyze the relation between the special viewing characteristics and the system factors of integral floating system. The experimental results which prove the analysis will be presented.

  • In this paper, we introduce an efficient three-dimensional magnetic field mapping system for a Deflection Yoke (DY) in Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT). A three-axis Hall probe mounted in a small cylindrical bar and three stepping motors placed in a nonmagnetic frame are utilized for the mapping. Prior to the mapping starts, the inner contour of DY is measured by a laser sensor to make a look-up table for inner shape of DY. Three-axis magnetic fields are then digitized by a three-dimensional Hall probe. The results of the mapping can be transformed to various output formats such as multipole harmonics of magnetic fields. Field shape in one, two and three-dimensional spaces can also be displayed. In this paper, we present the features of this mapping device and show some analysis results.

  • A 3D projection display using stacked screens to display the near and far images, respectively, is developed. The front screen is made of a scattering polarizer film, and the far image on the rear screen is clearly visible through it. The image is perceived as three-dimensional, and no eyestrain is suffered.

  • An enhanced 360-degree integral-floating three-dimensional display system using a hexagonal lens array and a hidden point removal operator is proposed. Only the visible points of the chosen three-dimensional point cloud model are detected by the hidden point removal operator for each rotating step of the anamorphic optics system, and elemental image arrays are generated for the detected visible points from the corresponding viewpoint. Each elemental image of the elemental image array is generated by a hexagonal grid, due to being captured through a hexagonal lens array. The hidden point removal operator eliminates the overlap problem of points in front and behind, and the hexagonal lens array captures the elemental image arrays with more accurate approximation, so in the end the quality of the displayed image is improved. In an experiment, an anamorphic-optics-system-based 360-degree integral-floating display with improved image quality is demonstrated.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) display systems based on wavefront reconstruction are presented. To obtain the wavefront of 3D objects, we present holographic recording using temporally or spatially phase-shifting interferometer. In the 3D display systems, phase-only reconstruction using a spatial light modulator and an approach to increase the reconstructed power are presented.

  • A three-dimensional (3D)-two-dimensional (2D) convertible display system using a plastic fiber array is proposed. The proposed system has an advantage of making use of a light source for 3D image from an arbitrary location. The optical efficiency of 3D images in the proposed system is enhanced compared with previous research.

  • A volumetric three-dimensional (3D) display system was presented, which utilizes a rotating two-dimensional (2D) display panel of light emitting diodes (LEDs) to generate more than 10 million volume pixels (voxels) within a cylindrical volume of 165 mm in height and 292 mm in diameter. Due to persistence of vision, momentarily addressed voxel information is perceived and fused into a 3D image. Important cues for depth perception, such as binocular parallax, accommodation, convergence and motion parallax are satisfied automatically and naturally, thus it is suitable for individual or group viewing, without the need for any special visual aids.
