The characteristics of Lamb waves in a composite plate with thickness variation (두께변화가 있는 복합재 평판의 램파 전파특성)

  • An active inspection system using Lamb waves for structural health monitoring was considered in this paper. In order to understand the characteristics of the Lamb waves propagating in a composite plate, the experiment was performed for a quasi-isotropic composite plate with thickness variation. Lamb waves were generated and received by the thin PZT transducers bonded on the surface. In this test, a simple new technique was tried for characterizing the Lamb waves propagating across the discontinuity due to the thickness variation. The results showed that Lamb waves were more sensitive to the thinner plate with faster group velocity and that the thickness change in composite plate was detectable. Consequently, the potential of applying this technique to structural health monitoring was verified.

Effect of Design Factors in a Pump Station on Pressure Variations by Water Hammering (가압 펌프장에서 설계인자들이 수격에 의한 압력변동에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the effect of design factors in a pump station on the pressure variations which are the main cause of water hammering has been investigated by numerical simulations. As design factors, the flow rate, Young's modulus, diameter, thickness, roughness coefficient of pipeline are considered. The relationships between the pressure variations and the design factors are analyzed. The results show that the pressure variation increases sensitively with the flow rate and Young's modulus, and increases gradually with the thickness and roughness coefficient of pipe, whereas it decreases with the pipe diameter. The wavelength of the pressure wave becomes longer for a smaller Young's modulus, a smaller pipe thickness and a bigger pipe diameter. These relationships are nondimensionalized, and logarithmic curve-fitted functions are proposed by regression analysis. Most effective factors on the nondimensional pressure variation is Young's modulus. Flow rate, roughness coefficient, relative thickness and pipe diameters are the next impact factors.

  • In this study an attempt was made to simulate the coextrusion process of the cladded finned tube manufacturing by extrusion of plasticine. The effects of the billet and the plate inserted between the ingot and extrusion die on the variation of clad thickness of the extruded tube were studied. The results showed that cladded tube with uniform thickness can be obtained by a proper combination of clad thickness of billet and the plate. The relative strength of the billet and clad materials did not affect significantly on the variation of the clad thickness of the extruded tubes.

  • In this study, the effect of shear rate on the viscosity variation is examined to understand the flow characteristics of the mixture of bentonite and water. The variation of film thickness according to mixing ratio and viscosity is measured to characterize the film formation. And, the separation of dried film is studied according to film thickness. Specific surface area affecting on adsorption capability is measured using BET method. The viscosity decreases and the film thickness increases as the mixing ratio increases. The separation characteristic of dried film is suitable within a range of 40 to 150 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in film thickness and 5 to 10% in mixing ratio.

  • In this paper, the wind tunnel test was carried to investigate the behavior of buffer layer in turbulent boundary layer with variation of surface temperature and roughness. The results were as follows; 1. The velocity in turbulent boundary layer was increased when the roughness height within viscous sublayer thickness was increased. 2. When the surface temperature was increased, the density of air was decreased and the velocity in turbulent boundary layer was increased. Thus, the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was decreased. 3. When the roughness height and surface temperature was increased simultaneously, the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was decreased. 4. The decrement of the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was more effected by the increment of the roughness height rather than the increment of surface temperature. 5. In this study, it was found that the condition of the highest velocity n turbulent boundary layer was the temperature 333K and roughness #100.

  • Generally a RF AGC controls the roll gap using the variation of rolling force caused by the roll eccentricity and the entry thickness of material, but these can not be classified. The Feed- forward AGC method, which controls the next stand roll 9ap by estimation the skid mark of the previous stand output thickness is needed to supplement the shortage of RF AGC. In this paper, an improved filtering method of skid mark which take account of the kinds of materials, the final objective thickness and the roll speed is proposed, In addition, an improved estimation method of control point using the speedometer and looper angle is suggested, Via simulation, the performance improvement of the suggested FF AGC method is verified.

  • The effect of specimen thickness on fatigue crack growth rate was studied. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of specimen thickness on the fatigue crack growth behavior at various stress intensity factor ranges and also the variation of material restance to fatigue crack growth. The fatigue crack growth resistance was treated as a spatial stochastic process, which varies randomly on the crack path, Compact tension specimens with a LT orientation for structural steel were used. All testing was done at a constant stress intensity level. The experimental data were analyzed for the size effect to determine the Weibull distributions of the material resistance.

  • In the structure of ITO/HIL/$Alq_3$/Al device, we investigated an efficiency improvement of the Organic Light-Emitting Diodes depending on thickness variation of hole-injection layer. Using the thermal evaporation in a base vacuum $5{\times}10^{-5}$[Torr], we have measured efficiency after the $Alq_3$ was evaporated to 100 [nm] as a deposition rate $1.5[{\AA}/s]$. In optimal condition, when PTFE thickness increased from 0 to 3.0 [nm], we have obtained that an optimal thickness of PTFE was 2.5 [nm]. And using the PTFE, luminance efficiency and external quantum efficiency of the device were improved by 12.8 times and 11.1 times, respectively.

Consolidation Characteristics & Consolidation Period of Dredged Soil by Considering Change of Strain and Stratum Thickness (변형률과 층 두께의 변화를 고려한 준설점토의 압밀특성과 압밀기간)

  • Consolidation characteristics have been investigated by using Rowe cell consolidation tester for dredged soil, which is more than two times as much as the liquid limit. To examine the effects of variation of water content on consolidation characteristic, tests were carried out varying the initial water content from $100\%\;to\;150\%.$ The results were compared with the consolidation characteristics of remolded clay. The test results showed that the hither the initial water content of dredged clay was, the more noticeable the non-linear behavior of e-log P curves occurred. The variation of the gradient was apparent to load stage 40kPa and became less apparent after load stage 80kPa on the e-log P curves. Ratio of compression index stayed within the range suggested by Mesri and variation of initial water content has hardly influenced the coefficient of consolidation. On the contrary, it was found that the magnitude of consolidation load affects the vertical coefficient of consolidation. The variation of stratum thickness during consolidation processing needs to be taken into consideration since hydraulic fill would go through a much larger scale strain than land soil when it is subject to a load. In this study, the consolidation period considering the variation of stratum thickness was analyzed and the results were compared with those of existing consolidation studies which did not consider the variation of stratum thickness. According to the results of the study, the consolidation period of the ground with a larger strain was calculated more close to observed value in case of Mikasa theory which takes the variation of stratum thickness into consideration.

  • In the rolling of steel or non-steel metal the most important quality aspect are thickness and flatness. In thickness, there are two important factors. One of them is getting close with accurate goal, nominal gauge, the other is minimize gauge bandwidth, the variation in gauge. In this thesis, we proposed the fuzzy model AGC to minimize gauge variation along the length, developed the rolling mill dynamic model using the math mode of the rolling mill process and the rolling model related with the variety character of the rolling material. We compared the gauge control efficiency of fuzzy model AGC and PI mass flow AGC. We have got a simulation result, that the exit gauge variation of PI mass flow AGC was 2 micron and fuzzy model AGC was 1.2 micron at 1200mpm of rolling speed when each controller was rolling 5 micron of material that is the entry gauge variation.
